The moment the class bell rang, signaling the end of school, Wang Bo was packing his bag when he felt a pat on his back. Jin Xiaoli, who stood behind him, asked rather discontentedly, "Have you sorted out the tickets? I'm waiting for your news."
Wang Bo turned his head and said, "Don't worry, I'll definitely get it done tonight!" In fact, if it weren't for her reminder, he might have almost forgotten. He had been thinking all day about how to join the volunteer group and hadn't paid much attention to what he had promised.
On his way home, he hurriedly called his cousin to confirm the three tickets. Fortunately, his cousin didn't let him down at the crucial moment and said the tickets were no problem, telling him to pick them up the next evening.
After settling this matter, he sent a text message to Jin Xiaoli, informing her that the tickets were secured. She replied with a happy smiley face.
Just as Wang Bo got home, his phone rang again. Seeing the caller, it was Lu Lu, who usually didn't like him. He was a bit puzzled, but when he answered, he found out it was Yu Jia, the class's Youth League secretary.
"Hey Wang Bo, I've talked to Qi Jieying. She wants you to go to the dance club room at six to discuss things in detail. Have your dinner and go there quickly. That's all, bye."
After saying this, she hung up. Yu Jia handed the phone back to her friend, Lu Lu, who said unhappily, "Why did you use my phone to call him?"
"It's an urgent matter," Yu Jia explained, "I was afraid he wouldn't answer my call, but I knew he would definitely answer yours. See, I was right, wasn't I?"
Lu Lu pouted, "You always have so many reasons." Although it wasn't anything special, she felt a bit happy.
Wang Bo was a bit conflicted after receiving the notification. He had ignored Qi Jieying's invitations to the dance club room twice, but this grade's beauty seemed to be very persistent, determined to make him go there. What was her purpose?
Should he go or not? Wang Bo thought about it and realized he really lacked interest in the school's people and affairs. He didn't even know who the Youth League secretaries of other classes were, meaning that apart from Yu Jia and Qi Jieying, he had no idea who else was in the volunteer service team.
After some thought, he decided to meet this pretty junior who insisted on seeing him in the dance club room. He went into the room, put down his bag, and saw a note left by his mother, saying she had prepared the meal and he should heat it up himself. She would be working all night.
Thinking about how his mother had worked all night the previous day, slept for only a few hours, bought groceries, and cooked for him, and was now working overtime again, Wang Bo felt both moved and heartbroken. When his father came back, he would immediately tell his parents about winning the lottery, so they wouldn't have to work so hard.
At six o'clock in the evening, it was already dark. Wang Bo arrived on time at the brightly lit dance club room. The door was closed, and music was playing inside, indicating that someone was practicing. He knocked on the door and waited for a moment. The music suddenly stopped, and a clear voice came from behind the door, "Who is it?"
"I'm Wang Bo from Class 2-7. I'm here to see Qi Jieying about something."
The door clicked open, and a cute, round face appeared. "Senior, can't you recognize me?" It turned out that the person who had asked from behind the door was Qi Jieying herself.
"I'm not familiar with you," Wang Bo said mysteriously and walked into the club room.
"Wait, wait!" Qi Jieying hurriedly stopped him and pointed to his feet, "Change your shoes."
He looked around and saw that no one else was in the room except Qi Jieying, but the floor was spotlessly clean. He noticed that she was wearing white dance shoes, and a pair of canvas shoes was on the shoe rack, probably her regular shoes.
"But I didn't bring any other shoes," he said, not planning to go in and deciding to chat with her outside. However, Qi Jieying pulled out a pair of paper slippers from under the shoe rack and said, "Put these on, come in first."
Wang Bo took off his shoes, put on the slippers she handed him, and walked into the room. Qi Jieying closed the door behind him and locked it. He suddenly turned around and asked in surprise, "Why did you lock the door?"
"Oh, it's just a habit," Qi Jieying stuck out her tongue but didn't unlock the door. Instead, she tilted her head and asked, "Senior, are you afraid to be alone with me?"
Wang Bo ignored her, walked over to unlock the door, and left it slightly ajar before asking, "Why are you here alone? Where are the other club members?"
"The club only has activities on Monday evenings and Wednesday afternoons," Qi Jieying explained, "Today's activity ended in the afternoon, and I'm here practicing alone in the evening."
"Oh, do you practice here every evening?" he asked.
"Not really," she shook her head, "Only when we're choreographing new dances."
Wang Bo looked at the full-length mirror on the other side of the room and the sound equipment in the corner and asked, "I'm sorry to interrupt your practice. Yu Jia told you about the matter I need to discuss with you, right?"
"Yes, she did. I'm considering it," Qi Jieying nodded slightly.
Wang Bo waited, but when she didn't continue, he asked, "How's your consideration going?"
Her eyes blinked, and she suddenly laughed. "Senior, you're so strange," she kept laughing, "When you ask for help, you act like it's a given. I've never seen anyone like you, really strange."
"I'm not asking for your help," Wang Bo said calmly, "You also have something to ask me, right?"
"Then why don't you ask me why I called you first?" she stopped laughing and said, "You just keep asking about your own matters. Do you think my request is easy to handle?"
Wang Bo walked to the back of the room, touching the bar next to the mirror, and said without turning around, "Then tell me, why did you call me?"
"Here's the thing, you know about the district's summer evening party, right?" Without waiting for his answer, Qi Jieying continued, "The party has ten performances, covering ten towns in Guanglin District. It's a traditional event and very popular among the public..."
"Can you make it shorter?" Wang Bo frowned, thinking she was being too verbose.
Qi Jieying was taken aback; few people complained about her talking too much. Most people wished she would talk more. This senior was indeed special. She said, "Okay, the district's summer evening party's preliminary selection is next month. I've choreographed a new dance and plan to register the dance club for the selection."
"Get to the point," he reminded her again.
She took a deep breath and suddenly spoke very quickly, "The point is, the requirements for the dance partner in my choreography are too high for girls to meet. I need a male partner, and I think you're very suitable. I hope you can prepare this performance with us!"
"Finished?" Wang Bo turned around and asked. She took a few deep breaths and patted her chest, "Finished..."
He chuckled and asked, "Do you think these two things are equal?"
"You help me, and I help you. Why aren't they equal?" Qi Jieying was surprised, thinking that she was asking him for help, and she was a cute and beautiful junior. It wasn't hard labor but dancing with her, something many men would dream of.
"I'm asking you to be a volunteer, which will take only a few hours of your time," Wang Bo said, holding up one finger and then spreading his hands, "But you're asking me to practice with you for at least a month, many evenings, dozens or even hundreds of hours! Not to mention the ten performances in ten towns if we get selected. How much time and energy will that take?"
Qi Jieying's big eyes widened. She thought it would take a lot of time, but it would be with her. If she publicly recruited, at least a hundred boys would beg to join. What was wrong with him? Did he think spending time with her was too much?
"From a time perspective, it's almost a 1:100 ratio. How can you say it's equal?" Wang Bo said indignantly, "If I agree to this, you should do at least a hundred things for me to make it equal!"
Qi Jieying was shocked, thinking he looked like he wanted to eat her. Doing a hundred things for him would make her his slave. She carefully said, "Senior... actually, the dance moves aren't too difficult for you... maybe it won't take that long..."
"Out of the question!" Wang Bo waved his hand and quickly walked to the shoe rack, putting on his shoes while saying, "I don't know what you freshmen are thinking. Your conditions are not sincere, and there's no point in even discussing it."
"Wait!" Qi Jieying saw Wang Bo open the door and was about to leave, so she called out to him. But the door slammed shut, and he left as if he hadn't heard her.
Damn... she cursed in her heart, ignoring her again and again, trying to make her angry.
Wang Bo went down the stairs and passed by his classroom floor, where he stopped by to see his classmates in the evening study session. He called Yu Jia out from the door.
"Secretary Yu, your junior is too much. She asked me to be her dance partner and practice for over a month, then participate in the summer evening party selection. I flatly refused her," he complained and said, "Give me a list of the Youth League secretaries in the same grade. I'll talk to them myself. I can't communicate with freshmen."
Yu Jia was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly went back, wrote a few names on a piece of paper, and gave it to him, saying, "These are the ones who seem easier to talk to. The others probably won't be useful to you."
Wang Bo looked at the paper, put it away, and said, "Thanks. Also, when you have time, educate your junior. I'll leave now."
After he left, Yu Jia returned to the classroom and immediately reported the situation to her friend. When she heard that Qi Jieying had asked Wang Bo to be her dance partner and he had refused, Lu Lu's expression changed, and she asked softly, "Why? Isn't it usually what boys would dream of?"
"Exactly, I'm also puzzled," Yu Jia said, "Qi Jieying is a recognized beauty. When she asks for a dance partner, boys usually fight for the chance. I can't understand what he's thinking. Does he not like cute girls? What type does he like? Or does he already have someone he likes?"
Her eyes kept turning, looking at her friend. Lu Lu felt embarrassed and pouted, "Why are you looking at me? I'm not his type."
"It's hard to say..." Yu Jia pouted playfully, "Maybe his taste is a bit strange."
