The area she kissed me was exactly where she had kissed me before. The moment she kissed me again, I felt a chill, and my heart began to beat surprisingly fast before slowing again.

I whispered, “Tell me, what the hell are you? How did you manage to possess that medic?” Wei Lai giggled, her exhaled breath tickling my ears, and said, “How about you and I team up? I can help you see your wife again if we do that.”

As painful as it was for me to lose my wife, I was still aware that making a deal with the devil had historically never ended well. I would never accept that. “You’ve chosen the wrong person. I’d advise you not to try to threaten me, Wei Lai.”

“Okay. If that’s the case, there’s no way I can guarantee Jia Jia’s safety.” With that, she straightened up, turned, and was about to leave. As soon as she turned, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her back with one hard yank. She turned around and saw me and asked, “What’s wrong? Changed your mind?”

I said, “I’m just a mental hospital patient now! How can I work with you? Please don’t do anything to Jia Jia, she’s just a child!”

Wei Lai grunted in reply. “There’s no child that isn’t a child in my place. I still need you to help me get rid of that Demon Dao.” She reached out and patted me on the shoulder. “You can think about it for the next three days until I come back!”

When she finished her sentence, Wei Lai looked at me and smiled. Her smile was so beautiful, no one on Earth would have thought that she was a sinister and vicious female ghost or a demoness or something like that?

She took a step back, opened the door, and left, followed by the sound of the door locking.

That night the female doctor brought me a plate of beef with sauce, a plate of peanut rice, a bowl of egg blossom soup, three steamed buns and two bottles of Erguotou; apparently sent by Officer Wei.

It had been a long time since I had a meal this good. Compared to this, the food in this mental hospital is still worse than as pig feed. Although in saying that, how could a canteen contracted out for profit possibly make decent meals?

I started complaining to the doctor out of frustration. “Can’t the cafeteria learn how to cook any good meals? Does it have to be like a college cafeteria?”

The female doctor looked at me and smiled. ”Xing Yun, you can’t possibly be a madman when your mind is so agile, although you should stop contradicting yourself! You say that you’re not crazy, but then you talk nonsense all day, how would you like me to take your actions?”

I didn’t reply but sat down at the dining table, pointed at the food and said, “I can’t eat this all by myself. Would you like to eat together?”

The female doctor’s smile grew wider. “Xing Yun, this Officer Wei cares for you quite a lot! You’d be crazy to reject her advances when she’s also taking care of your daughter. I’ll give you more delicious food if you clarify this for me! Your relationship with Officer Wei isn’t that simple, is it?”

I ignored her and ate and drank by myself. If I said I was having an affair with this police officer, this doctor would probably be thrilled!

“You don’t need to be hostile to me; I am your chief physician! If there’s anything in your heart you need to talk about, just tell me!”

I put down my chopsticks, looked up at her and said, “If I told you, would you believe me? What’s the point of talking to you about this? Will you not still think I’m insane when I tell you that Officer Wei is not human?”

At that moment, I suddenly saw a woman in white standing by the door of my room. She had long hair hanging down to her chest, and stood loosely, but with an air of great concentration. In other words, she was staring at me intently while drooling.

The female doctor noticed my gaze and looked over to where I was looking before turning to me and asking, “Xing Yun, what are you looking at?”

I’m looking at the ghost in the room but you can’t see it! Since she couldn’t see it, I pretended like it was nothing before saying with a laugh, “It’s nothing.”

After saying that, I continued to eat. Now that I had come to this point in my life, I wasn’t afraid of anything. Not of ghosts, death, or even what only ghosts are so scared of.

I leaned back after eating, and two strong men came in and cleaned up the dishes. The woman doctor recorded our interaction before watching me take some pills, giving me a copy of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes to read and telling me to sleep when I was tired. When I took the book and opened it up, she left the room.

That’s when I slowly put down the book, looked at the female ghost and whispered, “I suppose you are the patient who died here! Sorry, I’m taking your bed.”

The female ghost walked towards me step by step, ruffling her hair with both hands. When she reached me, I saw her face. Her face was so terrifying that it was like her cheeks had run away in fear, leaving only the shining white bones inside.

I flicked my eyes up at the camera in the corner of the room and said, “If I’m seen talking to myself, I think the diagnosis will only get more severe!”

But what’s the worst that could happen? They’ve already labelled me a psychopath anyway.

The female ghost looked at the camera, then greeted me with a smile. “Brother Xing, I’m Hu Thirteen’s wife. It was he who sent me here.”

I froze at the sound and whispered, “Is that really you? Didn’t you hate him?”

The female ghost said, ”Don’t believe Wei Lai one bit. Although she and Jia Jia are two separate individuals, their fates are connected now. With one victory and one loss, she can’t threaten you with Jia Jia because she regained life from her!”

“So Thirteen is alright now! Don’t tell me where he is. I’m afraid I’ll betray him if I can’t fight interrogation anymore. By the way, you should tell him to leave Hujia Ridge Tun soon.”

“Don’t worry, Thirteen came back early and is now staying at home. He’ll be fine.” The female ghost looked at me and said, “Brother Xing, why aren’t you afraid of me?”

I let out a sigh and laughed. “What do I have to be afraid of anymore? I’m not even afraid of death now, how could I be afraid of you?”

“Well, I’ll take my leave then.” After saying that, her body burrowed out the window like a cloud of smoke. A warm stream of air blew in through the window in her wake. When I looked at the thermometer on the table, it was only 10°C in the house. I couldn’t help but hug myself to warm up!

Wei Lai was really sinister! She even used Jia Jia to threaten me. Now that I’m in the know, if her destiny was linked with Jia Jia, no matter what, she wouldn’t dare to do anything to Jia Jia! I never thought she’d use such a trick on me!

I picked up the book. After finishing it, I couldn’t stay awake any longer, falling asleep in a daze. I missed my wife so much, I dreamt about her again.

After spending some time in thought, I decided to just take the deal when Wei Lai returned. I didn’t mind helping her if I got to escape this prison. If she doesn’t dare to do anything to Jia Jia, what’s the big deal? I’m not even afraid to die, so what’s there to be afraid of? For me, right now, getting out is the most important thing.

Three days later, Wei Lai arrived as promised, with her arms crossed. “How about it? Have you thought it through?”

“I’ve thought it through, and I’m willing to work with you. But I can’t promise that I’ll be of much use. I’m just a regular guy that just so happened to meet a ghost.”

“You don’t need to tell me what to do. Just listen to me and do as I command. Got it?”

I nodded and said, “Sure, but how do you plan to get me out?”

“You’re scheduled for an evaluation tomorrow where the dean, the director, and the attending physician decide whether you’ve recovered or not based on your condition. As long as you stop telling the truth, they will think you are well. I’ll get you out, and I’ll keep the police off your back. After all, you’re just a victim. Can you do that at least?”

I nodded, saying to myself, “You just wait until I get out, bitch. I’m not going to help you. You owe me a debt I want it repaid in full.”

At this time, I suspected that it was because the coffin’s wood was made into furniture and the door of my house that it ended up killing my whole family! Hu Thirteen’s wife had worn that necklace and died, implicating an entire group of people.

Of those four golden bells, Jia Jia wore two and was invaded by a ghost, almost losing her life. The other two were with Laohu, who lost a pair of legs. In the end, when these four bells came together again, Wei Lai was drawn out.

Wei Lai described the white bone in the middle of the coffin as a Demon Dao. It doesn’t really matter to me whether he was the demon or the righteous one – I don’t want to get involved in any of it. I just want to leave.

The key point is still that ring and pair of earrings. As things stand now, whoever holds these two things will be killed!
