Under the body of the lead wolf, Zhao Futu discovered a fallen wolf fang. The fang emitted a faint blue glow, resembling a crescent moon with a hook, and was exceptionally sharp. When he touched the fang with his fingers, a series of information appeared in his mind:
"Lead Wolf's Fang." (Condition: Normal)
"Origin: Legend of the Night."
"Rarity: Light Blue."
"Material: Calcium Carbonate."
"Weight: 5 grams. (The weight of the item affects the requirements for wearing it.)"
"Equipment Slot: Accessory."
"Effect: Strength +1, Agility +1."
"Requirements: None."
"Description: This is a fang from a lead wolf, emitting a pungent odor."
For some reason, no one else saw the blue glow on the fang. Only after Zhao Futu picked it up did the others realize he had obtained something. However, they wisely did not ask too many questions, as the lead wolf was killed by him, and Zhao Futu now held the high school student's Desert Eagle.
When Zhao Futu stood up and walked over, the bespectacled man finally spoke, "What do we do now?"
Zhao Futu had the Scouting skill and, with the Desert Eagle, was a formidable fighter. There were now only five people left in the group. The bespectacled man had a discussion with the others but decided to seek Zhao Futu's opinion. After all, Zhao Futu had just rescued him, and his attitude toward Zhao Futu had improved, clearly indicating a desire to win him over.
Walking over to the two dead bodies, Zhao Futu did not speak but slowly knelt down and closed their eyes with his hands.
Just moments ago, these two were alive, but now they were corpses. Zhao Futu felt a wave of sadness. Although he was not overly sentimental, the loss of life always brought a sense of sorrow when witnessed firsthand. Perhaps one day he would become more indifferent, able to ignore death and life, but not now.
He was still just an ordinary person, someone who lived in a peaceful era.
This space was far more dangerous than he had imagined. Zhao Futu looked at the two bodies, his emotions fluctuating.
"Let's bury them," Zhao Futu said, looking up at the others.
"What?"
The others were surprised and looked up.
"I mean, let's dig a hole and bury them. We all came here together; we can't just leave them to rot in the wilderness," Zhao Futu said, noticing their reluctance.
His mother had always taught him to respect the dead. He felt it was right to bury these two, even though they were not related. It was a matter of respect and a gesture of goodwill.
In the land of the Middle Kingdom, people believed in "burying the dead in peace," and few wanted to leave bodies exposed in the wild.
"We should leave first? The blood here might attract other beasts!" The bespectacled man said hesitantly, "Staying here puts us in danger!"
"Even if you bury them here, other beasts will dig them up and eat them soon!" The MLM man added, his tone somewhat resentful, "Should we put everyone in danger for two dead people?"
The other two, though silent, clearly agreed.
Zhao Futu frowned but did not say much. He put the Desert Eagle in his pocket, picked up the short sword, and dragged the two bodies together. He pointed to the dead wolves and said to the others, "You can leave first. You probably don't have money from this world, but you can take the wolf bodies to the nearby town to exchange for money."
"However, leave the lead wolf's body for me," Zhao Futu said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
The bespectacled man looked hesitant, wanting to stay and help Zhao Futu bury the dead but also thinking it was pointless. They had no tools to dig a proper grave, and every minute spent here increased the danger. Zhao Futu was important, but the MLM man was also a strong fighter, skilled with a long sword.
After a brief discussion, the group left with the wolf bodies but left the lead wolf's body for Zhao Futu.
...
Morning.
The sky was fully bright, and it took Zhao Futu nearly an hour to dig a grave for the two people. Without proper tools, using the short sword was both labor-intensive and inefficient. By the time he was halfway done, he was drenched in sweat. However, his physical abilities had improved due to the space's data, and he still had plenty of energy left.
Because of his Scouting skill, he was always cautious, observing the surroundings. This was an open grassland with traces of a road, indicating frequent human activity. Such a place generally had few wild animals, especially during the day. The encounter with the giant wolves was likely due to the mysterious space, perhaps to make them adapt to combat.
The mission prompt was an attack by werewolves at night. Since it was daytime, Zhao Futu deduced there was little danger, which is why he decided to stay and bury the two people.
In Zhao Futu's view, the previous battle should not have resulted in casualties.
If the high school student had not recklessly fired his gun, angering the wolf pack, the wolves might not have attacked. In nature, when prey and predator are evenly matched, a stalemate is common. The wolves' hesitation to attack initially showed that they were cautious. Many animals would abandon a hunt if they believed it would result in serious injury.
This is a natural law, not a world of relentless killing!
The wolf pack was not truly starving; these giant wolves were well-fed and likely not in dire need of food. If they had been given a strong lesson at the start, the wolves might have retreated. The Desert Eagle's close-range shots and the bespectacled man's fireball spell had a high chance of killing them.
Once the wolves realized the prey was not easy to handle, they would likely retreat. Even if they did not, the group would still have the upper hand.
However, the high school student's reckless action directly provoked the wolves. In the face of their attack, he panicked and retreated, leading to his immediate death from a broken neck.
This further incited the wolves' aggression, showing them that the prey was easy to handle. Wild animals tend to target weaker prey. If Zhao Futu had not killed the lead wolf, the outcome would have been uncertain.
The high school student made a mistake, but he paid with his life.
...
Tap, tap, tap!
Zhao Futu, resting on the grass, suddenly stood up and looked south, seeing several fast horses galloping toward him.
People!
The horses approached quickly, and the riders pulled their reins, causing their horses to neigh and stop. The riders dismounted and looked at Zhao Futu and the blood-stained battlefield, their eyes full of surprise. One of them said, "Did you do this?"
"Tsk, tsk! Seven people against at least twelve giant wolves, and you managed to kill the lead wolf!"
"Remarkable!" Another rider, dressed in silver chainmail and wielding a cross-shaped sword, said. Such equipment was extremely valuable in a medieval setting.
"Where are your companions? Did they leave?" The rider looked at the footprints on the ground, frowned, and said, "Four people, heading toward the town."
"They left me here?"
Zhao Futu also observed the riders. There were five of them, all on horseback. The one speaking wore silver chainmail, indicating a high status, while the others wore leather armor and carried long swords. Two had hunting bows on their backs. They were all over twenty-five, with weathered faces and an air of authority.
The leader was around thirty, handsome and imposing, with a commanding presence.
"They left first. I stayed to bury them," Zhao Futu said, pointing to the bodies. After the mission started, the space had slightly altered his appearance and clothing, making him look like a Eurasian, fitting in without standing out.
The riders exchanged glances.
The leader chuckled, his eyes showing a hint of admiration. He looked at the two bodies and said, "We can help you bury them, but you must pay a price!"
"What price?" Zhao Futu asked.
A bearded man looked around and said, "The lead wolf's body would be good."
Zhao Futu frowned, looked at the riders, and said, "Fine, but only half. I need money to eat."
His expression was sincere.
The riders laughed. The leader took a money bag from his waist, shook it, and threw it to Zhao Futu, laughing, "Catch! Now it's mine."
"Come, let's work."
"Let's bury these two."
Zhao Futu caught the money bag and looked inside, seeing a gleam of silver. A message appeared:
"Silver Coins (Precious Metal): One of the valuable currencies in this world, used to purchase supplies and gain favor with characters. You can sell them to the space for 10 survival points per coin."
The bag contained about twenty silver coins, which, if converted to survival points, was more than Zhao Futu had earned from killing the wolves.
With help, Zhao Futu quickly dug the grave and buried the two people. Since his destination was also the nearby Lock Town, he decided to travel with the group of knights. The mission required him to survive for 48 hours and kill at least one low-level werewolf. His intuition told him that following these people was the best strategy. Their fully armed appearance suggested they were involved with the werewolves.
On the way to the town, Zhao Futu gradually learned their purpose.
Indeed!
Their target was the werewolves!
