Chapter 10

Even though I had slept so much, I finished reading Kyle’s letter and tidied up, then fell asleep again comfortably.

When I woke up, it was early morning, and it seemed there was still time before breakfast. I changed clothes and decided to do some light exercise. Muscles deteriorate quickly if you don’t use them. Having spent most of my life in bed, I had almost no muscle on my body. Moving my body was enjoyable.

This body I have now could be called ideal. Since I have obtained an ideal body, I need to maintain this physique. After warming up, I started to exercise more rigorously.

I decided to do the strength training and sword techniques that Kyle used to do, as well as the body techniques, every day.

Once I get used to it, I might increase the intensity a bit. Since the room is small, I moved without a sword.

Since it concerns my life, I trained seriously, feeling amazed at how my body moved so smoothly. I probably exercised for about an hour.

After finishing the training, I wiped the sweat off, went to the dining hall for breakfast, and then headed to the Adventurer's Guild as planned yesterday. I found the guild without much trouble.

I went through the guild’s door and called out to the person at the reception.

“I would like to register with the guild.”

The person at the reception was a middle-aged man. He observed me and then explained.

“First, fill out this form with the necessary information.”

The man handed me a form, and I started to fill it out. First, the name... I thought for a moment and wrote "Setsuna." Sugi Moto Setsuna is dead. He died of illness a year ago.

The year I was summoned to this world, I was not really alive. I was breathing and my body was moving, but that was all.

Yesterday was the first time I told someone in this world my name. I am originally Japanese, but I only used my real name once. I thought that only he should know my past and my real name.

I gave up everything when he fell asleep. Sugi Moto Setsuna died a year ago. The one here is not Sugi Moto Setsuna. It’s just Setsuna.

However, even while thinking this, I couldn’t bring myself to take on a new name like Kyle did.

I sighed softly and filled in the blanks, drawing on my knowledge.

Name: Setsuna

Age: 18

Occupation: Scholar, Mage

Attribute: Wind

Abilities: None

Special Skills: Herbology

Languages: Common, Ancient, Southern, Northern

I decided to put my age as 18... If I counted from when I was on Earth, I would be 28, but my appearance has changed, and I no longer look 28.

I decided to say I have no abilities for now and that my occupation is a scholar.

I chose to be a scholar because it gives a reason to travel and because I wanted to appear curious. I chose my special skills and languages to fit the image of a traveling scholar.

Even as a scholar, I might not discover anything new. Both Mr. Hanai and Kyle are very knowledgeable... Still, I thought it would be good to travel and explore the knowledge I have.

Mr. Hanai seemed interested in languages and could write and speak most of the languages in the countries. Kyle was interested in history and investigated every ruin he found.

The Chaos Bag... Most of the items in the bag Kyle gave me were probably from ruins...

As I selected from my knowledge, I found a few things in common between me, Mr. Hanai, and Kyle. One of them was that we were all omnivorous in various ways. We not only studied things we were interested in but also delved into things we weren’t interested in.

When I handed the completed form to the man, he looked a bit surprised.

“You’re a scholar at such a young age? From this form, it looks like you’re a linguist?”

“No, I became knowledgeable while pursuing my interests. I felt that books alone were not enough, so I decided to travel and see things for myself.”

“I see... Scholars are often eccentric.”

He told me this, looked at my face, and smiled. It wasn’t an unpleasant smile; it felt like he was supporting me.

“You should see as much as you can when you’re young. Life is long. I’m the master of this guild. You can call me Master.”

I nodded, and Master nodded in satisfaction.

“Should I explain the guild?”

“Yes, please.”

“The guild has various jobs, from easy to dangerous. To match the jobs to each person’s abilities, there is a ranking system. The ranks are yellow, green, blue, purple, red, white, and black. You start at yellow. Place your left hand on this stone.”

He told me this, and I placed my left hand on a stone about the size of a crystal ball. I felt a slight warmth, and then a pattern of a bird protecting a camellia flower appeared on my left hand.

As I was captivated by this scene, Master explained the pattern.

“The pattern that appears is specific to each occupation. Swordsmen and mercenaries have swords, thieves and hunters have bows or daggers, mages have animals, and those who make a living from knowledge have plants.”

Master continued, seeing that I was listening seriously.

“The pattern is unique to each person, symbolizing something deep within their heart. Your current symbol is yellow, but it will change color as your rank increases.”

“I understand.”

“Also, you should only take on guild requests that you think you can handle. If you fail a request, your rank may drop. To increase your rank, there are points listed on the request forms. These are the base points. You can earn bonus points based on how well you complete the request. These bonus points can go up or down based on the client’s and other guild members’ evaluations. Some requests can be completed efficiently with a bit of thought, and how you complete these requests is where your skills will be shown. Good luck.”

“Thank you.”

I took Master’s words to heart.

“Also, the Adventurer’s Guild distributes 10 magic items called ‘Cubes.’ These are for storing the monsters you defeat. To use a Cube, say ‘Activate’ in front of the monster you want to store, and it will be stored in the Cube. Monsters have many uses, so we will exchange them for money based on the type of monster. When you bring a Cube with a monster to the guild, we will give you a new Cube.”

So, the monsters can be stored whole, like in an RPG game, meaning I don’t have to strip them for parts...

“Is there anything else you want to ask?”

“No, thank you.”

After listening to Master’s explanation and thanking him, I received the guild’s booklet and put it in my bag.

I noticed the pattern on my left hand and traced it with my right hand, feeling a bit sad as I looked at the camellia flower pattern I admired.

With these sentimental thoughts, I decided to take on a request.

Thank you for reading.
