Chapter 13

Sitting in the car heading to New York, Katherine gazed out the window in a daze.

According to Ada's plan, the two were supposed to hitch a ride, but Katherine felt a bit embarrassed, so they ended up spending money to take the bus.

In 1960s America, traffic jams were already common, but fortunately, the two didn't encounter such a problem.

"Uncle Homer, we're here!"

Homer was watching TV at the time. Color televisions had been invented, but the more modern integrated circuit TVs were still under development, and it seemed they wouldn't be available for another 4 to 6 years.

"Welcome."

Homer smiled at the two of them.

Work soon began.

Ada and Katherine changed into the clothes Homer had prepared and then went to the studio.

However, the actual work hadn't started yet when another guest arrived.

"Homer! It's been a long time!"

"Bob, hello, when did you come to New York?"

The visitor was a man in his thirties.

"I arrived today and am now heading to Hollywood. I've found that since I signed with Universal, my luck has improved a lot."

Europeans and Americans are very punctual, and they usually make appointments in advance for everything. However, it was clear that Bob had come here on a whim.

"Perfect, there are two lovely ladies here. They both dream of going to Hollywood, maybe I can introduce them to you."

When did I ever dream of Hollywood?

But looking at Ada, she seemed somewhat excited.

"Ladies, hello. I'm a director under Universal, my name is Bob."

To be honest, Bob didn't look very impressive. Katherine's first impression of him was terrible. Bob? Sorry, she didn't remember any famous director named Bob from this era. He was at best a third-rate director.

Looking at the two girls, Bob's eyes suddenly lit up, seemingly because of their good looks.

"Maybe I can show you something."

Bob had some scripts with him, so he chose a scene from "The Prostitute" (also known as "Butterfield 8"), a film that made Elizabeth Taylor an Oscar-winning actress, and asked the two to perform it.

The performance part was simple, just the opening lines.

"Alright, ladies, I don't have much time, but your performance was really outstanding."

Ha, she was just reading lines, and so was Ada. After all, Katherine and Ada needed time to memorize the lines, but Bob seemed genuinely unwilling to stay longer.

However, he still took out two business cards.

"Could I have your phone numbers? Although I don't have a good project right now, I think you both have the potential to be leading ladies."

While saying this, Bob's gaze was almost entirely focused on Katherine.

"Sorry, I just moved and don't have a phone."

Katherine wasn't interested in an unknown director like him. Looking at his eager expression, she even suspected he was planning to "sleep with" her, although such "unspoken rules" seemed more explicit in later times, where people would spend a night together if they hit it off. But in the 1960s, things were still somewhat conservative.

No, maybe he was just interested in girls who were just beginning to develop?

Katherine was thinking very maliciously.

There was no helping it; this man really looked terrible. Even if she were to act in a movie, she thought she would do better than this guy. Unless he was a famous director like Stanley Kubrick.

In the end, Bob only got Ada's phone number, disappointed.

Ada looked at Katherine, but it wasn't clear what she was thinking. Her hand, however, was tightly clenched into a fist, her nails digging into her flesh.

This was just a small incident, and everything soon returned to normal. In the end, Katherine received $100 as payment.

This was a lot of money, considering many people were debating whether to buy a $15 copy of "The Lord of the Rings." But for Katherine, it wasn't much, as she still had her $50,000 and her recent royalties were increasing.

That evening, Katherine took Ada back to her home.

"Kate, you don't seem interested in Hollywood?"

After dinner, Ada asked.

"I'm only interested in jobs that can earn money, but I don't like working for others."

Yes, as a time traveler, she had to be self-reliant!

"But your conditions are really good."

"To be honest... I'd rather make my own movies."

"By the way, Kate, what do you think of Mr. Jiao?"

This question again!

"Well... it's not early, let's go to sleep." Ada and she were sleeping in the same bed. Although Katherine didn't request it, her parents seemed to think it was a good idea. Did they think that best friends always had to sleep together? Why was this the logic?

But Katherine didn't know how to comment, and things ended up this way.

Katherine's bed was a large double bed, perfect for two people.

"Do you like sleeping naked?" Ada suddenly asked.

"Huh?"

Katherine didn't expect such a bold question.

"Never tried it."

As she spoke, Ada suddenly threw a piece of lingerie out from under the covers.

"Sleeping naked is actually very comfortable. When I'm in bed, I secretly take off all my clothes."

"Really?"

"Do you want to try it?"

Katherine thought sleeping naked wasn't a big deal, but hearing Ada say this, she hesitated.

"Sleeping naked makes you feel completely relaxed and is very comfortable. It's a rare experience."

Katherine felt a bit embarrassed about not taking off her clothes, especially since Ada was already naked. Was she going to be the only one to keep her clothes on?

So, under Ada's encouragement, Katherine hesitantly took off her nightgown.

"And the underwear."

She held out her hand to Katherine.

Katherine hesitated, then blushed and took off her underwear, handing it to Ada.

Ada threw the clothes out and snuggled in the bed.

"See, doesn't it feel better?"

Indeed, without the clothes, she felt a sense of lightness.

But because she was embarrassed, she turned her back.

However, she soon felt a smooth touch on her back, and soon, two hands reached around her slender waist.

"Hmm?"

"Don't move—"

She gently blew into Katherine's ear, and Katherine's body went limp.

Ada's left hand moved to Katherine's chest, while her right hand slid down.

"Now, I'll take you to heaven..."

Ada's words were infinitely gentle, but her face was cold.
