Chapter 27

Five little princesses, dressed in luxurious attire, came out of Jenny's room, marveling at the experience.

Jenny had already instructed them not to wear their best clothes when they arrived, as there would be a surprise waiting for them here.

And here it was.

All five of them were now wearing beautiful, vintage princess dresses.

At this moment, Katherine was wearing a white dress, looking like a delicate swan.

"Really beautiful, Jenny," Ada said happily. She was wearing a black dress, and the design boldly exposed half of her back. It seemed that Jenny had put a lot of thought into choosing the clothes, tailoring them to each person's characteristics.

"Jenny, how do you have so many beautiful vintage clothes here?"

Lily adjusted her dress.

"My grandfather is very nostalgic, so he collects these clothes and has a special place to display them."

"Really?!" Lisa's eyes lit up. "Let's go see!"

"There's not much time... but we can take a look."

Jenny led the group down the corridor and stopped in front of a door, which she then opened.

Inside, there were mannequins dressed in luxurious gowns, all free of dust, suggesting that they were frequently cleaned.

These dresses were from the 18th and 19th centuries, and the most common feature was their slender waists, reflecting the fashion of the time in Europe.

"Those waists are really slim," Lily commented.

Hearing this, Katherine looked at her own waist, but it didn't feel particularly "tight"?

"Our dresses are replicas, and the corsets have no real function. However, the mannequins' outfits are genuine 19th-century pieces and are quite rare."

Indeed, some of the dresses were adorned with diamonds and gold, indicating that a lot of money had been spent on collecting them.

Suddenly, Katherine noticed a golden corset and found it increasingly strange.

"Why doesn't this have armholes?"

Katherine noticed that although the dress was luxurious, it seemed to be designed for someone without arms.

"That's a Demairo corset, which is meant to bind the arms. You know, at that time, women's rights were not protected, and men liked strange things," Jenny explained.

Indeed, corsets, in a sense, were similar to foot binding in China, both being forms of distorted beauty.

But sometimes, a slender waist does look quite nice?

Lisa was very interested in these outfits.

However, they didn't have much time to linger and admire them.

"Alright, girls, it's time to go." Jenny looked at the clock on the wall; they had already been delayed for a long time.

The group of princesses then entered the hall with smiles.

"Happy birthday, Jenny!"

As they entered the hall, a handsome man approached. Jenny hesitated for a moment but then smiled at him.

"Who is he?" Katherine whispered, but he overheard her.

"Beautiful lady, my name is Jeffrey Gambino."

"Ah... hello."

Gambino?

Suddenly, Katherine's mouth opened wide.

Mafia!

This word suddenly appeared in Katherine's mind.

Indeed, the 1960s in America was a time when the Mafia was rampant. The famous film "Lord of War" also used this period as a backdrop.

The Buono family, Colombo family, Gambino family, Genovese family, and Lucchese family were the five most powerful families in the Mafia at the time, and they were also the most rampant in American history.

Katherine hesitated for a moment but then regained her composure.

After all, not every Gambino was part of the Mafia.

However, as she looked around, she suddenly realized that this might indeed be the case...

The people in the dance floor seemed refined, but the fierce-looking men standing beside them were clearly there for protection, with their guns partially visible. If she couldn't see that, she would be a failure.

"Could it be that Jenny's grandfather is also involved in this?"

Katherine suddenly thought of her film.

In this era, Hollywood was inseparable from the Mafia.

Anyone in Hollywood who didn't have ties to the Mafia was unlikely to be famous.

This situation was somewhat similar to Hong Kong in the 1980s.

In other words, if they pressured the American Film Association...

It would be a simple matter, and since her film wasn't a major production, it might easily pass, even for a Catholic.

Katherine carefully recalled the history of the American Mafia.

The American Mafia, initially formed by Italian immigrants, gained power during the Great Depression of the 1930s and reached its peak in the mid-20th century, until the FBI's investigations in the 1970s and 1980s weakened their influence.

1961, with the arrival of America's golden age, was also the last peak of the Mafia.

The American Mafia (Italian) initially gained power in the New York area and gradually formed five families, with the Gambino family being one of them.

The current leader of the Gambino family was Carlo Gambino, the most astute and intelligent among them.

Katherine knew about this person for a simple reason.

He was the prototype for the character in the film "The Godfather"!

He was charged numerous times but never convicted!

Carlo Gambino was well-versed in politics and law, making him the only godfather that law enforcement could not touch. Besides his omnipresent influence and dazzling wealth, no one knew what he had actually done.

Katherine had once considered making a film about "The Godfather," but at this moment, she realized she needed to be more careful; she didn't want to offend anyone.

"If only I had been transported to the 1980s..."

Katherine whispered to herself.

Indeed, in the 1980s, everything was in place, and the security in New York began to improve.

As she was lost in thought, she was nudged by Ada, and she realized she had been daydreaming. Jeffrey was still being polite.

"Sorry, I was distracted. I'm Katherine, nice to meet you."

"No problem, beautiful lady."

Looking at him, Katherine couldn't help but feel a bit down.

She felt uncomfortable being associated with the Mafia.

"Watch this, one day I'll reach a level where you all look up to me!"

Somehow, this thought began to form in Katherine's mind.
