Chapter 65

During the filming, Catherine paid special attention to Bruce Lee's fight scenes and Connery's acting parts. Although Freeman was the lead, his greater role was in advancing the plot.
Catherine used the Cinerama system for wide-screen film shooting.
Cinerama, also known as "panoramic film," is a type of wide-screen film. During shooting, three interconnected cameras capture one-third of the wide frame on three 35mm films. During projection, three synchronized projectors simultaneously project the three films, each occupying one-third of the frame, onto a screen, forming a complete image. Cinerama is projected on a wide, curved screen, providing the audience with a 146-degree horizontal field of view and multi-channel stereo sound.
Catherine used 70mm film, which provided even clearer images.
Catherine's pursuit of visual quality was not excessive, but she simply could not tolerate the old-fashioned look of the current films. Such a film would definitely provide a visual feast.
At the end of the film, Connery, carrying a gun, walks through a desolate desert. Catherine shot this scene for a full minute, then Connery climbs onto a broken bridge and looks into the distance.
"This is our future. Here, there is no redemption."
"Great! Absolutely wonderful!"
Catherine laughed.
Although the filming was complete, the film still needed editing, post-production, and other processes, which might last until mid-1963. The earliest it could be released would be Christmas of that year, but it was more likely to be released in 1964.
However, being able to finish earlier than expected made Catherine very excited.
Moreover, 1963 was the peak of the American civil rights movement.
Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech that year, and Kennedy said, "I have a dream" before he was assassinated. The assassin was described as "mentally unstable," but it was clearly a premeditated act...
If the film were released at this time, the effect would be excellent.
Catherine was not worried about the assassination.
Kennedy was assassinated because he was the President. His brother was also assassinated while running for President, and Martin Luther King Jr. died in 1968.
Besides, she had bodyguards around her. As long as she was careful, there should be no problem.
If necessary, Catherine could even go to Europe to hide. After all, she had relatives in Europe, though they hadn't been in touch for a long time.
Catherine was "risking her life" for "Wasteland." She sincerely hoped that her film would be a success.
The film was completed, but apart from Connery, the other two leads could still be "reused."
The $20 million budget was mainly for various props and sets.
But even for the sets, it would be a waste to discard all the painstakingly created scenery, wouldn't it?
So, Catherine had another plan.
That was the TV series version of "Fallout"!
This was different from the original "Wasteland," as it was adapted from a novel.
The original was a trilogy, which would be perfect for a TV series.
Because of the release of the "Fallout" novel and board game, as well as the popularity of personal computers, it wasn't a problem for Catherine to allocate $1 million. After all, TV series cost much less than films. However, Catherine still aimed for realistic visuals, even to the point where they could be shown in cinemas without any issues.
Sean Connery, with his unique and mysterious presence, naturally couldn't play the role again. Moreover, Connery might not be interested in a TV series.
Catherine planned to have Freeman play the lead in the second part, and the third part, which describes the post-apocalyptic Washington D.C., could feature Bruce Lee.
For the lead in the first part of the TV series, Catherine sent a letter to Clint Eastwood.
At the time, he was filming CBS's TV series "Rawhide." However, it didn't matter because his contract would expire in 1963. Catherine didn't necessarily have to start with the first part; she decided to shoot the second part first, then the first. After all, the time span between the two was about thirty years.
Oh, right. American TV series are usually referred to as seasons.
Regardless, the concept of American TV series wasn't well-established, so Catherine could call it whatever she wanted.
Catherine even wrote in her letter that Eastwood could direct the series himself if he wanted.
Who is Clint Eastwood?
The star of the 1964 film "A Fistful of Dollars," the lead in the famous "The Bridges of Madison County," and the director and lead in the 77th Academy Awards Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actor winner "Million Dollar Baby."
He is a versatile actor and director whose talent would only be fully revealed after he went to Italy in 1964. At the time, he was like a piece of unpolished jade waiting to be discovered. Unlike Freeman, who still needed to hone his skills, Eastwood was already a polished gem, with years of experience in Hollywood giving him ample acting skills and insight.
Imagine, instead of becoming famous through "A Fistful of Dollars," Eastwood becomes famous through his own "Fallout" series... Hey, what a sense of achievement that would be!
Just thinking about it made Catherine even more excited.
For several months, Catherine stayed on the set, even during Christmas.
When she finally paid attention to the outside world again, it was Bruce who sent her the company news.
It turned out that Intel had made a breakthrough, overcoming the bottleneck in supercomputers.
In other words, Catherine could now manufacture supercomputers!
By the time she flew back to New York from New Mexico, it was already March of the following year.
"Dad, can we really build supercomputers now?!"
This was the first thing Catherine said when she got home.
Then, she saw her mother, Emma, hand her a white towel.
"I wanted to visit you, but Bruce said it was best not to disturb you. Kate, I'm really looking forward to the film you're shooting."
Emma smiled.
Catherine no longer attended classes at SAB. On one hand, she had already reached the level of a professional dancer. On the other hand, she no longer had the time.
"Thank you, Mom..."
Catherine's excited heart suddenly cooled down.
Right, her friends.
How had they been during these almost six months?
Would they miss her?
Catherine felt a small sense of anticipation.
...
The name bug has been fixed, thank you everyone.
