As June arrived, the East Sea had become as hot as a giant furnace.
The sky was a clear blue, not a cloud in sight, and the scorching sun hung high like a massive fireball.
Donghai No.1 High School.
5:30 PM.
"Ring, ring, ring..."
The sound of the dismissal bell echoed, and the entire campus seemed to awaken from a slumber, instantly filled with a cacophony of voices.
Moments later, a large number of students poured out of the various teaching buildings, chatting and laughing in groups as they headed towards the school gate.
"It's so damn hot today!" someone complained.
"Wang Teng, let's go to the Rose Bar tonight."
A voice pulled Wang Teng back from his thoughts.
"Xu Jie!"
He looked at the person approaching, a familiar face, and memories from his high school days resurfaced. This was one of his old friends.
"You guys go ahead. I won't be joining you tonight. I have a headache," Wang Teng said.
Xu Jie urged, "Come on, Brother Wang Teng. Our little group is already small. It won't be any fun without you. Besides, it's been a while since we last got together. How about we reschedule? Tomorrow? The day after?"
Wang Teng shook his head and said helplessly, "Alright, let's make it tomorrow night."
"Great! I'll let Xiao Wei and the others know. We'll meet up tomorrow night," Xu Jie said with a happy smile.
The two walked to the school gate, where a commotion suddenly broke out ahead.
"Hey, what's going on up there? So many people gathered," Xu Jie asked, puzzled.
"I'll go check it out."
With that, he ran up and pushed his way through the crowd to the front.
Wang Teng, hands in his pockets, strolled over slowly. When a few students saw him, they quickly made way, wary of provoking him.
His reputation as Wang Dashaoye was indeed formidable!
Wang Teng couldn't help but feel a bit self-deprecating.
Unfortunately, it wasn't a good reputation.
When he reached the front of the crowd, he saw a girl on the ground, surrounded by a few young men with dyed hair, who were crying and begging for mercy. The girl's eyes were filled with fear and anger.
From the surrounding chatter, he pieced together what had happened.
Some young thugs liked to gather around high schools and junior high schools, targeting students who seemed easy to bully. They would extort money, harass, and even grope female students.
The victims, fearing trouble, mostly kept quiet, which only emboldened the thugs.
Just after school, a few of these thugs had encountered He Manrong. Seeing how pretty she was, they couldn't resist harassing her, spouting lewd remarks.
They didn't realize that He Manrong was not a pushover but a rose with thorns.
In a fit of anger, she took action and quickly beat them to the ground.
"God, He Goddess is a high-level martial artist. Those thugs really kicked a hornet's nest this time!"
A male student nearby clenched his fists, his face flushed with excitement.
From his words, it was clear he idolized He Manrong.
"I've heard that He Manrong is a top student, but I didn't expect her to be so skilled. Could she have practiced taekwondo? Maybe even a black belt ninth dan?"
"Still, those long legs are quite rare. She has such a great figure even in high school. Just imagine what she'll be like in the future!"
Wang Teng was marveling at He Manrong's strength and the beauty around him when he suddenly heard the words "high-level martial artist." His expression froze.
He was a bit confused!
Did I hear that wrong?
It made sense, as he had just been reborn and was still a bit dazed. Hearing it wrong was understandable.
At that moment, Xu Jie came over and said enviously, "Our school has only five high-level martial artists, and He Manrong is the only girl among them. She's from an ordinary family, a real genius!"
"..." Wang Teng was speechless.
So, she really is a high-level martial artist. It seems I didn't hear wrong.
But, what's with this high-level martial artist in a modern urban setting? Is this really a rebirth?
Wang Teng felt a wave of hostility from the world, his mind filled with questions.
Seeing the commotion, He Manrong frowned and left without another word to the thugs on the ground.
As she walked away, the crowd dispersed.
Wang Teng and Xu Jie parted ways at the school gate.
Wang Teng found the car waiting for him and, amid the envy of the other students, got into the BMW parked by the roadside and drove off.
In the car, he gazed out the window at the rapidly receding street scenes, lost in thought.
It was then that he noticed the trees lining the streets were unusually tall and the vegetation was extremely lush.
These plants must be over-nourished. No wonder everything at school felt a bit off.
The school's vegetation was also unusually lush, but he had been so preoccupied with his rebirth that he hadn't noticed.
The sights and sounds along the way left Wang Teng in shock.
The streets were clean and tidy, the passersby's fashion forward, and the commercial areas bustling.
It didn't feel like 2009, or even 2019 when he was reborn.
Something was definitely wrong with this world!
Wang Teng's mind was in turmoil when he suddenly saw a young woman in her twenties walking down the street with a large, fluffy dog.
There was nothing unusual about that, except the dog was huge, about the size of a small calf.
He couldn't help but curse.
"Damn, what kind of dog is that? So big!"
He took a deep breath to calm himself, stroking his chin in disbelief.
"It looks like a golden retriever, but it's way too big."
Next, he saw several more people with their pets.
The pet dogs were all enormous, far exceeding the normal size. Some parents even let their children ride on the backs of these large dogs while shopping.
The pet dogs had become mounts!
He also saw a pet cat with two tails, and others that were equally gigantic, resembling leopards.
However, they all seemed very well-behaved, and the passersby didn't seem to find them unusual, treating them as if they were just pets.
Wang Teng was starting to feel numb.
This was definitely not his original world. Even though the classmates were the same and the school was the same, something was clearly off.
After a twenty-minute drive, they arrived at the Fuhua Villa District. After a series of twists and turns, the car finally stopped in front of a villa.
Thankfully, his home was still here.
To be honest, his family was considered moderately wealthy.
Wang Teng's grandfather had four children, and his father, Wang Shengguo, was the second eldest. He had a talent for business and started the Xing Teng Group, which was second only to the Rong Sheng Group founded by Wang Teng's grandfather.
Both the Xing Teng Group and the Rong Sheng Group were billion-dollar companies.
However, Wang Teng knew that there were many such companies globally. While the Wang family might be significant in their local area, they were just larger ants compared to the true conglomerates.
In his previous life, the Wang family had offended someone and was completely destroyed. The companies went bankrupt within a month.
The Wang family was utterly wiped out, becoming a thing of the past.
Two billion-dollar companies might sound impressive, but they weren't even enough to satisfy someone's appetite.
It was a bitter irony!
Wang Teng fell from the heavens to the earth, living a life worse than that of a pig or a dog for the next few years, enduring endless humiliation and oppression until he was reborn... or maybe not!
Too much had changed in this world. He wondered what had become of the Wang family.
Even more, he wondered if his parents were still the same.
He couldn't bear the thought of entering the house and finding his parents replaced.
"It won't happen! It won't happen!" Wang Teng reassured himself, his heart still unsettled. He took a few deep breaths before stepping through the villa's gate.
