Chapter 23

The night watchman was still Zheng Chen. On this night, the blue-haired girl woke up in the middle of the night, seemingly troubled by something. Even after waking up, she did not immediately sit up but continued to pretend to be asleep.

"..." After some time, seeing that Zheng Chen still had his back to her and showed no reaction, the blue-haired girl couldn't help but wonder if he was already asleep.

"Hey..." Not knowing Zheng Chen's name, the blue-haired girl hesitated for a moment before softly calling out to him.

"What is it?" Zheng Chen immediately responded.

So he wasn't asleep. How dedicated. The blue-haired girl pulled a face, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. "I need to use the restroom."

"Go ahead."

"..." The blue-haired girl's face turned slightly red. It was a bit embarrassing to say, "Don't peek."

"..."

The blue-haired girl left but did not return for a long time. After a moment of silence, Zheng Chen extinguished the fire on the ground and left his spot. Had he done something wrong?

The blue-haired girl did not try to hide her tracks, and Zheng Chen easily found where she had gone. Her destination was clearly a town not far from here. But how could she act alone?

It had to be said that the blue-haired girl's survival skills were really quite poor. If she left alone, her journey to the town would likely be her last stop...

Or perhaps not the last stop. She would either be taken back to the headquarters by the Protection Association or captured by a force that discovered her identity. In any case, she did not want to encounter either. Why did she leave on a whim? Was she foolish?

Zheng Chen also considered this, which was why he did not enter the town that day. He wanted to find an opportunity to sneak in and leave. If possible, bypassing the town entirely would be an option. Now, he needed to adjust his plans.

The blue-haired girl's determination was not bad. Despite her poor physical condition, she insisted on moving at her fastest pace and reached the town by dawn. As expected, she was noticed as soon as she entered the town. The players were the most enthusiastic.

The news about this place had already spread on the forums. Now that she appeared alone in the town... was there some kind of "plot" that could be triggered?

Just as some players were about to act, another group took the lead. Seeing their uniforms, the eager players immediately held back. They were a local force, the Holy War Angels Association. These people... couldn't be provoked for now. Confronting them was like opposing the national power of this continent. Unless they didn't want to stay in this area.

The standards of the local forces were very high.

"Damn, I should have joined earlier," some players muttered, seeing the association members. Many of them were players.

In the past, it was easier to join, but with the influx of players into the Holy War Angels Protection Association, the standards for joining had become much higher.

They then watched with a sense of amusement as the blue-haired girl and the association members interacted. After a while, a conflict arose... it seemed the blue-haired girl wanted to go somewhere, while the association members intended to escort her back to headquarters. Their goals were at odds, so she refused.

However, a one-sided refusal was meaningless.

"No! Let me go, I don't want to go to that place!!" The blue-haired girl shouted, now regretting her decision to run away alone. Was this the end of her journey just as she started?

She tried to escape, but the association members, who had received orders, would not let her leave. If she left, she would be noticed by other forces, which went against the association's principles. They would not let her leave, even by force. As for persuasion...

Let the headquarters and the Holy War Angels deal with it.

"What the hell!?" One of the association members holding the blue-haired girl felt a sharp pain in his arm as a crossbow bolt pierced it. In pain, he released his grip, and the blue-haired girl took the opportunity to break free. She glanced in surprise at the young man standing on the roof, then turned and ran into the crowd, hoping to shake off the pursuit.

"Who is it? We can't let her escape, chase her!!"

At the same time, Zheng Chen on the roof quickly moved. He swiftly loaded a thin crossbow bolt, which flew and struck a member's calf, causing him to fall and trip those behind him.

The crossbow in Zheng Chen's hands was not very powerful; otherwise, it wouldn't have failed to pierce the arm of the previous member. In some situations, killing was not a good choice. Once he did, many things would be irreversible.

However, this crossbow had an advantage: the bolts could be loaded very quickly. From his vantage point, Zheng Chen easily suppressed those trying to block him.

"Damn! This guy is too strong, he actually dared to attack here!?" The players knew he was in trouble. If he was labeled as a criminal before, he would now be on the wanted list, assuming Zheng Chen could escape.

It looked like his chances of escaping were quite high. The bolts in his crossbow seemed endless. He had used dozens... where were they coming from?

"Strange, who bit this street lamp?" A player noticed a large chunk missing from the street lamp, which was now wobbling. He then saw the blue-haired girl running towards him and felt a surge of excitement. This was his chance to be a hero and save the girl!!

Ah!!
