As Qin Chuan walked over, Yao Sihai started coughing violently again, and during this time, he forced himself to spit into the trash can. Then, exhausted, he lay back on the bed. Qin Chuan slightly pulled back the quilt that emitted a strong odor. Yao Sihai had sweated a lot, and his clothes clung to his body, emitting heat continuously. Even through the mask, Qin Chuan could still smell the unpleasant odor. Yao Sihai's breathing was rapid, and his face was flushed. Qin Chuan touched Yao Sihai's forehead and found it extremely hot. Qin Chuan frowned.
"Nurse Huang, come over here for a moment." Qin Chuan looked around and saw Nurse Huang Shuqin changing a patient's medication.
After finishing the medication change, Huang Shuqin walked over.
"Doctor Qin, what's the matter?" Huang Shuqin asked as she approached.
"Take his temperature, then go get some medicine to bring down his fever. After the fever is down, take him for an X-ray and blood tests (including ALT and AST)," Qin Chuan said.
Huang Shuqin was a bit hesitant: "But how will the costs be handled? Yao Sihai hasn't registered at our hospital. Strictly speaking, he isn't even our patient."
Qin Chuan nodded: "Register him again. He might have tuberculosis. The tests I mentioned are basic checks for tuberculosis, which can be done for free by the state. Then change his bed and bedding. If it really can't be managed, I'll cover the costs. We can't just let him die."
Seeing Qin Chuan take responsibility, Huang Shuqin still kindly asked: "Doctor Qin, I know you have good intentions. But it's best to consult Director Cheng about this."
"He's in a serious condition now. We can't afford to wait. If something happens, we in the emergency department will also be held responsible," Qin Chuan said.
"Alright, I'll do as you say." Huang Shuqin took the prescription Qin Chuan had written and prepared to go.
Qin Chuan's judgment was indeed correct. Yao Sihai did have tuberculosis. Due to his long-term illness, his body was already weak. Because of various reasons, his living conditions were very poor, and he often lacked proper clothing and food. Additionally, staying in the emergency department, where there were many patients coming and going, increased his exposure to various viruses. Ultimately, this led to Yao Sihai contracting tuberculosis.
However, because of his tuberculosis, Yao Sihai could receive some free treatment. Despite this, some costs still needed to be paid by Yao Sihai, and given his current situation, he naturally had no money to pay.
"Mr. Yao, do you have the contact information for your two sons?" Qin Chuan asked Yao Sihai.
Yao Sihai didn't speak for a long time and then shook his head. This was already a significant improvement, as before, he never responded to any questions from the doctors and nurses in the emergency department.
"Where do they work? Can you tell me? I have no other intentions. I just want them to come and see you. You raised them, and they have the duty to take care of you. I've heard about your situation. Raising two sons is not easy. Whether they are biological or not, they have the duty to take care of you. If they refuse to do so, you can sue them in court. The court will compel them to take care of you," Qin Chuan said patiently.
"Doctor Qin, can you let me have some peace for a moment?" Yao Sihai said.
"Alright. I'll come back later. After the medication, it would be best to take a bath and change your clothes. You see, we've already changed your bedding, so everything is clean and tidy. You'll feel more comfortable," Qin Chuan said and then got up to leave.
"Doctor Qin." After Qin Chuan had taken a few steps, he heard Yao Sihai calling him from behind.
Qin Chuan turned around and saw Yao Sihai saying gratefully: "Thank you."
"You're welcome. Rest well. You'll get better," Qin Chuan said.
Gao Zhanting was sitting in the emergency department, no longer as depressed as she had been the past few days. When she saw Qin Chuan walk in, she even smiled at him.
"You admitted Yao Sihai. Aren't you afraid of getting into trouble? Patients like Yao Sihai are difficult to handle. The older doctors in the emergency department are all afraid of dealing with him. Director Cheng will probably scold you later."
"Today's situation is special. Yao Sihai has tuberculosis. If we leave him like this, it could be fatal, and he might also infect other patients," Qin Chuan said as he pulled a chair over and sat down.
"You're still young. Your heart is still warm," Gao Zhanting said, lightly smoothing a few strands of hair from her face.
"You make it sound like I'm so old," Qin Chuan looked up at Gao Zhanting. A mature woman has a certain charm, and Gao Zhanting displayed it perfectly.
"Well, compared to you, I am older. After going through something like this, even if I don't want to age, I will," Gao Zhanting sighed. Discovering that the person she deeply loved and thought she could spend her life with was actually so deceitful was something no one could easily accept.
"Is everything settled?" Qin Chuan asked indirectly, glancing around.
"Not yet. I'm not dealing with it anymore," Gao Zhanting quickly changed the topic when she saw Wu Xiaoming walk in. "You looked good on TV. Now many of the female doctors and nurses in our hospital are asking me about you. Want me to introduce you to a few?"
"Spare me, Sister Zhanting. I'd rather not be in the spotlight," Qin Chuan pleaded.
"True. You haven't even won over Jiang Lingling yet. I won't worry about this for you. Good luck," Gao Zhanting smiled.
Jiang Lingling walked in with a file folder.
"Lingling, did you come to see Qin Chuan?" Gao Zhanting looked back at Qin Chuan.
"Yes, I have something. Doctor Qin, are you free now?" Jiang Lingling said.
"I'm free. What's up?" Qin Chuan asked.
"You, Lingling came to see you, of course, for something," Gao Zhanting rolled her eyes at Qin Chuan.
Jiang Lingling was a bit embarrassed and spoke hesitantly.
"Alright, let's go outside and talk," Qin Chuan realized that Jiang Lingling was uncomfortable speaking in front of everyone, so there must be something important.
Qin Chuan and Jiang Lingling walked to a flower bed outside the emergency department. They looked around and saw only patients and their families passing by, with few doctors in white coats.
"What's the matter?" Qin Chuan asked.
Jiang Lingling blushed, bit her lip, and said softly, "My mom wants you to come over to our house when you have some free time."
"Ah?" Qin Chuan was taken aback. He understood the implications of this invitation. The problem was that he hadn't made up his mind yet. Or rather, he hadn't fully moved on from his previous relationship. His feelings with Shang Wenxiu might not continue, but matters of the heart are not as simple as drawing a line to signify an end. The heart is small and can't hold too many people or too many things.
"If it's not possible, I'll tell my mom," Jiang Lingling was very disappointed. She still hoped that Qin Chuan would agree directly.
"No, Lingling. I just think it might be a bit too soon," Qin Chuan was afraid of hurting Jiang Lingling. Regardless of her background, he didn't want to hurt such a pure girl.
"Doctor Qin, I understand. Don't force yourself," Jiang Lingling was afraid of making Qin Chuan uncomfortable.
"It's fine. Let's do it in a few days. I'm on night duty tonight. How about when you're on leave, I'll adjust my schedule?" Qin Chuan couldn't bear to see Jiang Lingling disappointed, even though doing so might hurt her more in the future.
"Alright! This weekend, then. I'm on leave, and my parents are also off," Jiang Lingling was overjoyed.
Seeing Jiang Lingling so happy, Qin Chuan didn't regret making a slightly insincere decision.
