Chapter 10 of 10
Chapter 10
13 min read3,188 words
Previously, Ye Feng found it a bit strange that the cute girl with the oval face, who was clearly quite capable, would leave without thoroughly investigating the three missing Golden Leaf Herbs.
Now it seems that she had a follow-up plan and wasn't afraid of him escaping. That girl had considerable power in the city, enough to easily command the chief of a public security bureau.
Ye Feng was not about to sit and wait for his doom, nor would he let the other party take the Golden Leaf Herbs.
He felt a bit regretful, wishing he hadn't written anything in the hotel room and had just left. That way, there would have been no trouble. But then he thought, even if he had run away then, they could still find him through the ID registered at the hotel, and the outcome would still be the same...
"I advise you to cooperate, or you'll suffer."
The man with the hooked nose spoke in a shrill voice as he and the middle-aged police officer approached Ye Feng. In their eyes, Ye Feng was just a high school student, handcuffed and posing no threat.
On the side, Chief Liu was eagerly waiting for the two to search Ye Feng and retrieve the three Golden Leaf Herbs so he could hand them over and claim credit. Although he didn't know why his superiors were so concerned about three plants, he only needed to follow orders. Sometimes, knowing too much wasn't a good thing.
But just as the man with the hooked nose and the middle-aged police officer got closer to Ye Feng, Ye Feng suddenly jumped up, took several steps back, and leaned against the wall. Then, with his handcuffed hands, he took out a Golden Leaf Herb from his inner pocket.
He had kept two Golden Leaf Herbs and a check for 200,000 yuan in his inner pocket, so they weren't taken away like the counterfeit phone.
At this moment, he wanted to eat one of the Golden Leaf Herbs and quickly absorb its spiritual energy. If he had five months of cultivation, he could try to break the handcuffs.
Although absorbing the Golden Leaf Herb in this situation was dangerous and could result in damaged meridians or even death if mishandled, he had no other choice. If he didn't resist now, not only would the Golden Leaf Herbs be taken, but he would also face a terrible fate, possibly even being charged with rape, which would be tragic.
How many years in prison for a rape conviction?
Ye Feng certainly didn't want that.
Just as he was about to put the Golden Leaf Herb to his mouth and swallow it, Chief Liu suddenly shouted, "Wait!"
Chief Liu was now drenched in sweat!
In the dim light, he could see the plant in Ye Feng's hand, with its golden stem, just as his superior had described.
He couldn't believe such a plant actually existed!
In his superior's tone, the three plants were incredibly precious, and whether Ye Feng lived or died was of little importance, but the plants must be obtained. However, now that Ye Feng seemed about to eat the plant, this couldn't be allowed.
Chief Liu could foresee that if the plants were damaged, he might lose his position.
"Are you Ye Feng?"
Chief Liu realized he needed to stabilize the situation and quickly calmed down. "I advise you not to make a mistake. If you really eat that plant, it won't just be a rape charge."
Hearing this, Ye Feng paused and thought for a moment.
He wasn't afraid of what the other party might do but realized he could use the Golden Leaf Herb as leverage to threaten them.
"Do you really want this plant? Then let me go first, or I'll swallow it."
Ye Feng kept his distance from the others and put the Golden Leaf Herb in his mouth.
This action made Chief Liu inwardly furious. Damn it, putting the plant in his mouth, even if they got it back, it would be dirty. He hoped his superiors wouldn't blame him...
"That's not possible. This is a police station, and we must follow the law."
Chief Liu had been in his position for several years and was experienced in handling situations. "However, if you hand over the three plants, regardless of the charges, you will receive a lighter sentence."
In his view, Ye Feng was just a high school student who would be easily intimidated.
Unfortunately, Ye Feng was not an ordinary high school student and wouldn't be fooled so easily.
"Is that so? Then I'm sorry, I'm going to swallow it."
Ye Feng moved his mouth as if chewing, but he was just making a gesture.
He thought: The oval-faced girl didn't seem to know that one of the Golden Leaf Herbs had already been used to treat her internal injuries. She actually wanted to take all three back.
Now, looking back, Ye Feng felt he had lost a lot by using one of the Golden Leaf Herbs to save her, but if he had to do it again, he would make the same choice.
No matter what, the Golden Leaf Herbs came from her, and Ye Feng couldn't go against his conscience.
"Stop! Young man, don't be too impulsive."
Seeing Ye Feng make the chewing motion, Chief Liu was inwardly panicked but maintained a calm exterior. "Do you know the consequences of your actions?"
"Let me go, or forget it."
Ye Feng didn't want to waste time and spoke firmly.
The situation was at an impasse. The man with the hooked nose and the middle-aged police officer stood by, unsure of what to do. Just then, Chief Liu's phone rang. He looked down, his face changed, and he quickly answered it.
The number displayed made it impossible for him to remain calm.
He hurriedly ran out of the interrogation room and answered the call. Ye Feng and the two police officers could hear his submissive tone, but they didn't know who was on the other end.
The man with the hooked nose was surprised. Even when the top boss of the capital's public security bureau called Chief Liu, he had never been so respectful.
Ye Feng didn't act rashly, wondering if some other force was trying to make his situation even worse. If he had ten years of cultivation, he could cultivate a Yin Spirit, enhancing his hearing and vision several times over, and he could have heard what was being said on the phone. Of course, if he had ten years of cultivation, he wouldn't have been brought to the police station in the first place.
Not long after, the plump Chief Liu returned to the interrogation room, drenched in sweat, clearly under immense pressure.
From a few meters away, he spoke respectfully and nervously to Ye Feng, "Young Master Ye, I'm truly sorry. We failed to recognize your importance and offended you... You can leave now, and the previous incident was a misunderstanding."
Hearing this, Ye Feng was stunned. What was going on?
"No!"
The man with the hooked nose immediately protested, his face full of surprise. "Chief Liu, he..."
"Who's the chief here, you or me?"
Chief Liu glared at the man with the hooked nose.
The man with the hooked nose wanted to say more, but he wasn't stupid. Seeing Chief Liu's reaction, he was a bit uneasy. Could Ye Feng have some extraordinary background?
Ye Feng was completely dumbfounded. Could this guy have some powerful backing he didn't know about?
Young Master Ye?
"Still haven't uncuffed Young Master Ye?"
Chief Liu said sternly.
The man with the hooked nose reluctantly walked over.
Seeing this, Ye Feng was a bit wary, but the man with the hooked nose didn't try anything and reluctantly removed the handcuffs with a gloomy expression.
He was speechless. Chief Liu's attitude had changed so quickly after just one phone call.
He knew that in modern China, a higher-ranking official could crush a lower one. Clearly, the unknown person who had helped Ye Feng was of a higher status than the girl's background. Although he was curious, if the police wanted to harm him, they wouldn't use such a clumsy trick.
