The delicacies on the dining table emitted a tantalising aroma. Chen Caixing had yet to recover from the life and death situation moments ago. He had an intuition that the words on the paper should be very important.
He didn’t know what was written on it?
A few pairs of eyes on the other side of the dining table secretly looked at him. Of course, there were those who were straightforward and openly looked at him. Chen Caixing knew what the three veterans meant looking at him but he acted like he didn’t see it. He naturally patted his little brother’s head, “I’m starving to death, let’s go wash our hands before we eat.”
He brought Yuan Jiuwan to the kitchen to wash their hands.
Wang ge gave a meaningful glance to Jin Hai at the dining table. The veterans were in low spirits because of Zhao Jun’s death. Wang Xingping even broke out in an argument with Jin Hai in the morning because Jin Hai said he didn’t know how Zhao Jun had died. The two of them shared a room. Based on Zhao Jun’s cautiousness on a daily basis, Wang Xingping did not believe what Jin Hai had said.
It was impossible for there to be no sound made at all.
In a life-and-death crisis, it’s not like Wang Xingping didn’t pull someone to fill the pit before. He suspected Jin Hai pitted Zhao Jun but Zhao Jun had already died. Amongst the three of them, Monkey was useless, Jin Hai’s skill was not bad so Wang Xingping didn’t want to have a falling-out right now.
When Chen Caixing came out, he was able to perceive the fierce surging movement under the look of tranquility at the table. He didn’t care about it and distributed a meal to Yuan Jiuwan. The two of them minded their own business, eating their meals.
Halfway through their meals, Mr. House came downstairs and stared at Chen Caixing angrily.
The other party knew he had gone to the third floor and knew something was missing.
Chen Caixing was uncomfortable being stared all over by this sort of gaze but he couldn’t show his fear. His appetite was almost scared the hell out of him.
“Gege, the beef is delicious, try it.” Yuan Jiuwan put the beef on his plate onto Chen Caixing’s plate. In the passing, he raised his head to look at Mr. House who was standing two steps away and revealed a harmless lovable smile, “Boss. Thank you for the lunch.”
”
”
Mr. House confronted Yuan Jiuwan. He fell silent, put away his gaze and left.
Chen Caixing’s head slowly rose: ?
“He left?”
Yuan Jiuwan spoke quite naturally, “I already thanked him.” Then he raised his smiling face and said in admiration, “Gege taught me to be polite to the NPC. He stood still and didn’t leave. It must be because no one thanked him for lunch.”
Chen Caixing: ??? Is that all?
Mr. House kept staring at him and didn’t leave, just to get a thanks for lunch from them?
It sounded like nonsense but it was ineffably reasonable. Otherwise, why would Mr. House who kept staring at him, leave after the little brother said his thanks?
Not to mention Chen Caixing’s bewilderment, Zhao Ru and Lin Qianqian came to a realisation at the table.
“Turns out we had to thank him. This NPC is rather particular about it.”
“But he’s scary, I don’t dare to speak to him.”
Yesterday, three newcomer girls squeezed into a room to sleep all night. Compared with Wang Xiaoxiao’s unkindness, Zhao Ru and Lin Qianqian could speak with each other. The two of them even exchanged their information in the real world.
Without Mr. House staring, Chen Caixing quickly finished his lunch. Other than not having much on the first day at breakfast, his appetite was good since then.
He was a bit stuffed today. Chen Caixing touched his stomach through his clothes. The feeling of roundness made his expression stiff so he naturally retracted his hand.
As long as he didn’t touch it himself, he could pretend he still had four-pack abs.
“You went to the third floor in the morning?”
There was not much spare time after lunch, people couldn’t wait to launch an inquiry at Chen Caixing.
It was Jin ge who asked. Chen Caixing neither confirmed nor denied it with an ‘um’. Wang Xiaoxiao’s movement was so big in the morning. The veterans couldn’t have not guessed it.
“Brat, what clues did you find?”
Chen Caixing looked at Jin Hai and said in a flat tone, “I remembered you said before you won’t share any clues with me. I’ll say the same back to you.”
He could say that he didn’t find any clues but those three people won’t believe it. Might as well return the criticism, to make himself happier a bit.
Jin Hai pounded the table with a ‘peng’, showing an ominous glint while he glared at Chen Caixing.
“Not giving me face, I’ll ask you nicely one more time, hand over the clue.”
Chen Caixing smiled, “I don’t need to give you face. There’s no clue.”
“Damn, laozi can’t kill you today.” Jin Hai raged. Zhao Jun died in the morning. He was misunderstood by Wang Xingping and suffered a bellyful of repressed grievances. He couldn’t act against Wang Xingping, the leader of this group of people. He doesn’t believe he can’t break the arm of a weak chicken.
Yuan Jiuwan stood in front of Chen Caixing.
With a child’s distinctive childishness but his tone was cold, “Just try to touch him?”
However, Jin Hai’s arm was stopped by Wang Xingping beside him. The other let Jin Hai stick out as a bad person first, causing the atmosphere to be unpleasant. He stood out to speak, “Chen Caixing right? We need the clues not just for our personal affairs. We have more experience. If you hold onto the clues, you can’t analyse anything from it but in our hands. If it’s in our hands, we can bring everyone to leave here earlier. Don’t pull everyone else into the water just because of personal hatred. You already know about the dangers here. If the next person dies, who would it be?”
His words spoken were highly ethical.
If a person dies, who would be accounted for it?
“Find whoever does the harm.” Chen Caixing didn’t buy Wang Xingping’s ethical criticism. He didn’t have a hobby of giving himself a brother1. He touched the little brother standing in front of him. Not to mention, the stance of the primary school student was solemn.
“Everyone has heard it. It’s not that we didn’t think of a way. Someone selfishly hid the clues, hoping for us to die.” Monkey did his best to cooperate with Wang Xingping, skilled in distorting the meaning in his words, “Originally, we can go home earlier and there was no need for anyone else to die but Chen Caixing doesn’t want to hand over the clues……”
After Monkey spoke, Lin Qianqian and Zhao Ru were already overflowing with tears and requesting Chen Caixing to hand over the clues.
It’s only a pity for Chen Caixing that the other side was willing but he remains indifferent2, he didn’t have the least bit of consideration for the fairer sex.3
He was gay.
That was what he said but he didn’t want to look at these two younger sisters crying at him. He might as well bring Yuan Jiuwan back to the room.
Wang Xingping watched with a calm expression on his face as Chen Caixing left.
The fog outside got more and more dense, the weather was gloomy without sunlight. From the window at the end of the corridor, the missing presence of Mr. House was newly established in front of the walnut tree.
He perceived something and his head turned a hundred and eighty degrees, directly facing Chen Caixing.
This was not a position a human could achieve.
Chen Caixing was startled again, pretending to nod and smile on the surface.
Have to be polite to the NPC!
He closed the door upon returning to the room. Chen Caixing fished out the paper he found from his pocket.
It was a letter written in English.
Chen Caixing: ……
Fortunately, he completed College English Test 6 (CET6)4for English.
This game really made people be unable to out against going bald.
The letter was addressed to Edward House, signed by a woman called Joanna. It was a letter to request for help. He could tell from the words that Joanna was very burdened with worries and terrified when she was writing this letter. In the letter, it stated that she discovered John’s secret. She was very scared and hoped Edward would come over at once to save her. John’s eyes were getting colder and colder when he saw her. He felt that John knew that she had been to the basement……
She pleaded with Edward to come over as soon as possible. This sentence was repeated many times in the letter.
She didn’t know until how long she could persevere for, considering that John is your brother, he might listen to what you have to say.
Signed Joanna.
The handwriting in the letter was written hastily so it was illegible. Chen Caixing could distinguish it when he finished reading. He felt the woman’s fear and hope for survival but this letter was destined to not be sent. Edward, who Joanne seeks for help from, came late.
Joanna was murdered.
The words the veterans said were not wrong. In the supernatural game, someone must first die before becoming a ghost.
The thing that knocked on the door after midnight and asked do you want to make a wax figure was a man.
If this man was not Edward House, then it must be John House. Chen Caixing was more inclined to the latter but he had to wait to make sure.
Chen Caixing didn’t keep it from Yuan Jiuwan. The two of them took a risk in going to the third floor together. Yuan Jiuwan had the right to know and didn’t dismiss him, a primary school student, as a little brother. He simply summed up the contents in the letter.
“Gege, I found this in the box.” Yuan Jiuwan’s hand fished out a necklace from his pocket and passed it over, “I saw this in the photograph, could she be Joanna?”
Yuan Jiuwan had a face asking for praise.
Cheng Caixing truly didn’t expect Yuan Jiuwan to also be able to find this item. He was startled for a bit before he praised, “Xiao Jiu is awesome.”
Yuan Jiuwan smiled cutely with a mouth full of white teeth and leaned on Chen Caixing’s arm.
Chen Caixing knew that children liked praises. He didn’t take it seriously and rubbed the little brother’s hair. He started to study the necklace after he received it.
The necklace was made of silver with a thin chain and a heart symbol was hanging on it. The surface was hollowed out with a woman’s photograph. The woman had a head of black curly hair, fair skin, big eyes and red lips. She was a little fat and smiling very happily.
This locket could be opened.
Chen Caixing has seen the people in American TV series before and knew it was an antique. The area inside where the photograph was originally placed, was completely empty. Usually, this type of pendant would have a photograph of a married couple inside or a photo of their lover.
The photo was missing. Chen Caixing thought there was no affection between Joanna and John so it was normal to remove it.
The name, Joanna House, was engraved on the back of the pendant.
This was indeed Joanna’s item.
“Xiao Jiu, I’ll keep this necklace?”
Chen Caixing kept the letter and the necklace. After he took the letter, House stared a hole at him. He let the little brother keep the necklace. If by any chance, House thought about it, it wouldn’t be good.
“We can’t tell anyone else about this. Let’s go downstairs.”
“Gege, I’ll listen to you.”
Fragrance wafted from the dining room. It was time for dinner again.
A day’s time passed by too quickly. It was already the third day. If he genuinely calculated, this was the second day they were here but Chen Caixing felt that the NPC also included the half-day for the first night they came.
Looking forward to killing them earlier.
During the meal, Zhao Ru and Lin Qianqian resentfully stared at Chen Caixing the whole time. Yuan Jiuwan wanted to take a bun but the two younger sisters carried the whole basket away. The short arm of the little brother wasn’t long enough. He turned to look at him pitifully.
Chen Caixing: !
He couldn’t tolerate it.
He didn’t know what kind of brainwashing Wang Xingping gave the two of them.
The game was for the entire team. If one person solved the wax museum, everyone else could go out.
For what reason did these two younger sisters firmly believe Wang Xingping could decipher the clues with a clack as soon as he got it and he couldn’t?!
“I found a letter on the third floor.” Chen Caixing said when he didn’t see House.
Wang Xingping was stupefied, then warmly gazed at Chen Caixing, “You’ve finally come around. That’s right. Everyone as a team——”
“The buns.” Chen Caixing used his chin to signal to those two younger sisters to put the basket back.
Wang Xingping thought Chen Caixing took the initiative to speak because he wanted to exchange for leads. He didn’t think that the exchange was for a basket of buns? As a result, his face distorted. The preparation he had to act in a perfunctory manner for the clues was stuck in his throat. Unbearable.
“What are you two doing, how could you bully a child as a team.” Monkey educated at the side. Zhao Ru and Lin Qianqian were scolded with a stream of abuse before they placed the basket back.
Chen Caixing picked up a bun to give to the little brother. Without any rush, he voluntarily placed the letter on the table.
“Look at it.”
He and Yuan Jiuwan started to eat their meals.
Wang Xingping extended his hand over to take it. He covered it up, wanting to keep it a secret. When he saw the contents in the letter, his face froze. His English wasn’t that good. Thus, he placed the letter on the table, giving it to Jin Hai to look at.
“Damn——“ Jin Hai’s curses were suppressed from Wang Xingping’s gaze.
Damn this game for looking down on them, the whole thing was in English. That brat deliberately did it, wanting them to become a laughingstock.
The letter was spread out in the end.
Zhao Ru and Wang Xiaoxiao were university students. The two of them mutually mulled over it and translated the general idea.
At this time, Mr. House came in. He glanced at the letter on the dining table. His speed was fast, like a whirlwind, charging in front of them. He gloomily looked at them.
Zhao Ru was so scared that she screamed. The three veterans retreated, thinking the NPC would take action.
“It was him who took it. It was him who took it.” Lin Qianqian screamed while closing her eyes, pointing at Chen Caixing, “He went up to the third floor. It had nothing to do with us. Don’t kill me. Don’t kill me.”
Nobody noticed how ice-cold Yuan Jiuwan’s expression was when Lin Qianqian said those words.
It was more gloomy and cold than Mr. House.
