Chapter 9

In the end, Zhao Nan decided to take down the elite walking zombie. Although the risk was high, it also meant a high reward.

Even if this guy is so stingy that he doesn’t drop anything, at least the experience points won’t be negligible, right? Zhao Nan licked his lips, trying to recall a saying:

If you’re willing to risk your life, you can bring down the emperor!

Because of the existence of the safe zone, this elite monster could only watch him but couldn’t truly attack. Zhao Nan was absolutely certain that this creature was a human transformed into a monster; otherwise, it wouldn’t exhibit such intelligent behavior.

After regaining his composure, Zhao Nan immediately moved a few meters, stepping out of the safe zone and simultaneously casting a small fireball.

No active attack skills could be used within the safe zone; otherwise, players could just stand inside and spam spells, leveling up quickly.

-7!

The small fireball hit the elite walking zombie’s chest, leaving a charred mark. Zhao Nan quickly jumped back into the safe zone. When the zombie ran over, Zhao Nan leaped out from a few meters away and cast another small fireball.

"You can’t hit me, you can’t hit me, you can’t hit me!"

-7! -6! -7! -8! -9! -6! ...

"How much HP does this guy have?"

Zhao Nan had already taken his second mana potion, but the elite walking zombie’s HP bar had only dropped to about half.

"Ding! Small fireball proficiency maxed out, successfully upgraded to level 2, damage increased by 5%!"

-8! -7! -9! -7! -7! ...

Finally, with a惨叫, the elite walking zombie’s body exploded, splattering Zhao Nan with blood.

"Ding! Congratulations, player Zhao Nan has successfully killed the elite walking zombie, rewarded with 500 experience points, and a 20% bonus for killing a higher-level monster!"

"Ding! Congratulations, player Zhao Nan is the first to kill an elite monster, rewarded with 200 experience points!"

"Ding! Congratulations, player Zhao Nan has leveled up to level 4!"

"Ding! Congratulations, player Zhao Nan has leveled up to level 5! Auxiliary profession functions unlocked, please check in the nearby beginner city!"

"Ding! Congratulations, player Zhao Nan has obtained 2 gold coins and a blue Medusa ring!"

"Ding! Congratulations, player Zhao Nan is the first to kill an elite monster, rewarded with 100 reputation points! The reputation system is now open. Do you want to reveal your name and be admired by thousands?"

"No!" Zhao Nan firmly rejected.

No way, this would just tell others that he had killed an elite monster and might have treasure.

With trembling hands, Zhao Nan pulled out a ring glowing with a deep blue light from the pile of flesh, swallowing hard.

"Blue Medusa Ring (Set), Attack +6, Constitution +1, Strength +1, Agility +1, Spirit +1, Mana Regeneration +1"

"An epic item!" Zhao Nan was almost ready to howl with excitement.

This Medusa Ring not only added +1 to all base attributes but was also part of a set!

Zhao Nan quickly put the ring on his finger, and the +1 to all base attributes immediately took effect, making him feel a refreshing chill throughout his body.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Two whistling sounds came.

-150!

A bright red number appeared in front of Zhao Nan, indicating the damage he had taken.

About twenty meters away, four players were running towards him. Two were archers, and two were swordsmen!

In that instant, Zhao Nan instinctively dodged one arrow but was still hit by another.

"Ding! Player Zhao Nan has been attacked maliciously, entering a state of non-aggressive defense!"

"Kid, I saw you get something good! Hand it over, and we can still be friends!"

What the hell! They were here to rob him! Zhao Nan had underestimated the players at this stage. He didn’t expect that on the second day, someone would dare to enter the area of level 2 monsters.

But now wasn’t the time to regret. Because the game functions were not yet fully developed, players couldn’t see each other’s levels, only their HP bars.

But these few players’ levels probably didn’t exceed level 3... level 2 might be their limit.

Seeing the two swordsmen rushing towards him, Zhao Nan narrowed his eyes and quickly retreated to the safe zone. In the safe zone, players couldn’t use active skills.

"Haha, do you think hiding in the safe zone will save you? Naive!"

One of the swordsmen, a man in his thirties, sneered and rushed into the safe zone with his companions, smirking, "No one can use active skills here. How do you plan to deal with four of us? Hand over the loot!"

Zhao Nan, still feeling the pain from the arrow, which had already disappeared back into one of the archers’ quivers, looked at the four people coldly, "I’ll give you one chance, disappear from my sight now!"

"Tsk tsk, what a big mouth! You probably don’t know that two days ago, I was a taekwondo instructor! These three are my students, all with black belts!"

The other three also entered the safe zone, surrounding Zhao Nan, their faces showing confidence.

"Hand it over!"

The taekwondo instructor suddenly shouted, his face stern. If Zhao Nan had been weaker, he might have trembled.

"What if I don’t?"

Zhao Nan’s voice grew colder.

"If you don’t? Beat him to a pulp!"

The taekwondo instructor sneered, and the other three pounced on Zhao Nan almost simultaneously. Their movements were powerful, clearly the result of long-term training.

Facing their attacks, Zhao Nan instinctively crouched down, gripping his staff and sweeping it at one of the archers.

The staff struck the archer’s leg, causing him to scream in pain. Seizing the opportunity, Zhao Nan leaped out of the safe zone.

The other two shouted in anger and pounced again, but as soon as they stepped out of the safe zone, a small fireball hit one of them.

Boom!

It exploded at the edge, severely injuring the leg of one of the swordsmen. Zhao Nan sneered, crouched down, and retreated, then leaped forward like a hunting leopard, kicking one of them.

Ah!

The last archer was hit in the chest, fell to the ground, and gasped for breath.

The battle ended in less than ten seconds. The taekwondo instructor glared at his fallen students, his voice cold, "Not bad! Have you trained before?"

Zhao Nan’s fighting style had surprised him. He hadn’t expected Zhao Nan to use the area’s restrictions so effectively, with almost first-class reflexes. This made him more cautious.

Zhao Nan shrugged, twisted his neck, and said calmly, "I’m poor, I can’t afford to learn your fancy moves."

"Hmph! Disrespecting taekwondo, huh? I’ll show you its true power!"

With that, the instructor kicked out, his leg slicing through the air like a blade. Zhao Nan’s eyes narrowed; this guy was skilled.

Pfft!

Zhao Nan crossed his arms in front of him, blocking the kick. His arms ached, and he thought, "Strong kick."

After blocking the attack, the instructor quickly changed his stance.

This time, Zhao Nan wouldn’t just clash with him. Years of gaming had honed his combat awareness far beyond that of ordinary people. This wasn’t something you could learn just by going to a gym.

It was the calm and sharp vision gained from countless life-and-death situations. To Zhao Nan, the taekwondo instructor was just a stronger, more agile enemy.

As the instructor kicked, Zhao Nan quickly stepped back, grabbed his ankle, and pulled him forward.

The instructor lost his balance but remained calm, bending his knee and aiming a powerful kick at Zhao Nan’s chest.

"Naive!"

Zhao Nan quickly crouched down, and without hesitation, thrust his staff at a sensitive spot.

Ah!

A blood-curdling scream echoed as the taekwondo instructor fell to the ground, clutching his groin, his face pale. His HP bar dropped by more than two-thirds!

"Despicable!"

At this point, the three students, who had taken health potions, rushed at Zhao Nan, while one quickly gave the instructor a potion.

Being a player had its drawbacks. If it wasn’t a one-hit kill, health potions would quickly restore them.

Zhao Nan gritted his teeth, leaped out of the safe zone again, and pointed his staff forward. The two students, now wiser, stayed at the edge, not daring to step out.

"Kid, if you’re a man, come in! Hiding outside is no good!"

Zhao Nan ignored the taunts, casting a small fireball at the edge of the safe zone. It exploded, creating a small crater and scaring the two back.

Zhao Nan then said coldly, "Why so many words? If you want to rob me, this is how you do it? You’re four people, and you’re acting like cowards!"

"You... come in if you dare!"

The two students’ faces turned green with anger. The taekwondo instructor suddenly stood up, his face twisted with hatred, "Charge out, I’ll kill this guy!"

He drew his iron sword and leaped out.

"Slash!"

A silver light emitted from the sword, aiming at Zhao Nan. Zhao Nan, knowing the skills of swordsmen well, easily dodged.

The sword only cut the ground a meter in front of Zhao Nan, but a small fireball was already heading straight for the instructor’s head.

Boom!

Zhao Nan’s small fireball, now at level 2 and enhanced by two rings, was powerful. It hit the instructor’s head, causing it to explode.

"Ding! Player Zhao Nan has killed player Zhang Gui. Because he was in a defensive state, no evil points were added."

The three students, seeing this, were terrified, "Run!"

"None of you are leaving!"

Cutting the grass without uprooting it would only let it grow back. Zhao Nan had suffered from this before!

But at that moment, a group of walking zombies rushed towards him. Zhao Nan shouted, cast a small fireball, and quickly retreated to the safe zone, watching the three run away.
