"How did you know?" The old man, with a dirty and disheveled appearance, looked at Ning Yi with a sly smile, circling around him like he was studying a small animal. After several rounds, he nodded thoughtfully, "It's like this."
"What do you mean by 'like this'?" Ning Yi, feeling a chill down his spine from the old man’s gaze, tried to shrink his body. Could this guy have some strange fetish? Judging from his skills just now, even ten thousand Ning Yis wouldn’t be his match.
The old man ignored Ning Yi’s question, clicked his tongue a few times, and reached out to stroke the tattered Zhongshan suit, crouching in front of Ning Yi like a monkey. Then, with a slightly surprised look in his eyes, he muttered to himself, "Dual mental energy, souls from different four-dimensional spaces fused together, hence the strong will to live. Not bad."
The old man praised him and then stood up again, looking at Ning Yi with a suddenly wistful tone, "I wonder if it’s your luck or mine…"
At this point, he paused and said to Ning Yi, "Little guy, do you want to live?"
"I’m already living just fine, aren’t I?" Ning Yi, already confused by the ramblings of this old man, weakly rolled his eyes. Not eating for a whole day, it would be strange to still have energy, but he still tried to be tough.
"You have a pretty tough mouth." The old man wasn’t angry; he crouched down again and said slowly, "From here to the foot of the mountain, it would take at least an hour for a normal person to find help. With your legs completely useless, even if you could crawl, it would take you a whole day. Plus, you’re in an unfamiliar place, so the only possibility is that you’ll die in the wilderness."
"As a person with a higher education and a dual master’s degree, don’t you understand this?" He stared at Ning Yi with a teasing smile, adding.
Ning Yi was shocked again. This kind of person shouldn’t exist in this world, but how did the old man know so much about him?
"How do you know my past?" Ning Yi finally couldn’t help but ask.
"Because I, like you, am not from this world." The old man replied with a bitter laugh, "But soon, you might be the only one left in this world."
Ning Yi’s brows furrowed, "Can you explain more clearly? I don’t understand."
"Alright, I’ll get to the point since my time is running out." The old man explained with a slightly strange accent, "To put it simply, I’m from a five-dimensional space... an existence you can hardly imagine. You might not understand, but let me give you an analogy."
"The universe where your Earth exists is a four-dimensional space, consisting of length, width, height, and time, forming a four-dimensional space-time universe. However, for a five-dimensional observer, this four-dimensional universe is like watching ants crawling on a piece of paper."
"The ants only know left and right, forward and backward, and can never move upward, so they can only live in a two-dimensional space. Similarly, humans are limited to their four-dimensional space. The five-dimensional space, on the other hand, is made up of countless parallel four-dimensional spaces. Each of your universes is like a series of continuous playing cards to me... and I am the one playing with these cards."
"Simply put, are you God?" Ning Yi smirked, speechless.
The theory of multidimensional space had a foundation on Earth, and the old man spoke with such certainty. Plus, Ning Yi’s sudden appearance here and the old man’s incredible skills earlier left him no choice but to believe.
"No, I’m not God. I’m just an observer in the five-dimensional space." The old man shook his head but then stared at Ning Yi, "Of course, I can modify you within the bounds of physical laws."
"Modify?" Ning Yi shrank back. The old man looked too creative; he didn’t want to end up like him.
"Thinking too much, huh?" The old man gave Ning Yi a look, as if reading his mind, "Back to the topic, do you want to live?"
"Of course I do!" It was a no-brainer.
"Good, if you want to live, listen to me." The old man’s eyes suddenly became serious, "Close your eyes... then relax your body... slow down your breathing... yes... imagine yourself on an endless ocean..."
Ning Yi was half-believing, half-doubting, but he followed the instructions. At first, he felt a hazy calm in his mind.
But soon, a piercing sound, like infrasound, drilled into his brain, causing a high-frequency vibration. His mind went blank, as if being pulled into an infinitely deep black hole.
After a while, he was surprised to find himself slowly floating. No, not his body, but his consciousness had left his body!
Astral projection?
Ning Yi’s mind was a mess. This was too incredible!
However, in an instant, he felt an invisible force pull him back into his body.
Opening his eyes, the old man looked at him with a smile, "How was it?"
"Astral projection?" Ning Yi asked suspiciously.
The old man shook his head, "Of course not. This is the wonder of the five-dimensional space. You can detach from the four-dimensional space and observe the universe as an outsider."
"But it feels like I’m a ghost..." Ning Yi said, speechless.
The old man gave him a look but didn’t speak.
Ning Yi noticed the old man’s complexion suddenly worsened and frowned, "Old man, you don’t look too good."
"Of course not, because I just gave you all the energy points I had left in my body." The old man, looking haggard, panted.
"Energy points?" Ning Yi was confused again.
"Energy points are the dark matter that maintains the balance of the universe. Your physics should have taught you that. It’s extremely difficult for four-dimensional beings to discover, but for a five-dimensional existence, it’s as simple as breathing air."
"Explaining it to you is pointless. I don’t have much time left, so I’ll get to the point..." The old man, clutching his chest, panted and then regained some strength, "I’ll explain why I’m here."
"Originally, as a five-dimensional being, I couldn’t communicate with four-dimensional beings, just like you can’t command characters in a movie to change their actions."
"However, about fifty years ago, the universe where your Earth exists and the universe where the Water Blue Star exists, due to the periodic flipping and twisting of the cosmic strings every sixty billion Earth years, caused the dark matter that binds the universe to leak, leading to the collapse of the current balance of the Water Blue Star’s universe."
The old man panted again but continued, "As the guardian, I had to enter the four-dimensional space during the brief moment when the string membrane was breached, trying to save the situation. After fifty years of effort, I thought I had fixed everything, but it turned out that the real mess was just beginning. I came fifty years too early... There’s no choice but to find someone to take over."
Ning Yi couldn’t help but interject, "Since you’re from the five-dimensional space, why not just stay for another fifty years?"
"Nice try. Didn’t I already explain it to you? The relationship between us and you is like the relationship between you and characters in a movie. We can see the beginning and the end, but we can’t interfere. If not for the cosmic string twist, I wouldn’t have had this chance... Plus, the human body I’m using has weak mental energy. Maintaining for sixty years is already a stretch... I was almost disintegrated, and then I was chased and attacked. Look..."
The old man pointed to the cliff top, "I was chased by experts from the Zhong family and the Mu family, and I fell down here."
The Zhong family and the Mu family? Ning Yi’s mind flashed with a memory. They were the top families in Huaxia.
But he still couldn’t help but frown, "Since you’re from the five-dimensional space, you shouldn’t be outmatched by them, right?"
