Chu Jun returned to the survival pod, lifted the seat, and pulled out a square box. The box lid was marked with the logo of Deep Space Energy and a survival symbol.
This was a survival kit produced by Deep Space Energy, known for its reliability, stability, and affordability, making it a standard survival item on most interstellar spacecraft.
The kit box was made of composite materials, giving off a cheap and rough feel. Chu Jun opened the kit box and examined the contents. Inside were three packets of compressed food, two bottles of water, two polymer batteries, a scanner, and a multi-functional universal material printer.
Chu Jun picked up the universal material printer and gently pressed the start button. It automatically extended its base and four printing arms.
The core of the entire survival kit was this universal material printer. It could print various devices using standardized materials based on pre-stored blueprints. This simple and portable version of the printer required only a polymer battery for power. If no battery was available, other energy sources could be used as substitutes.
One could say that with the material printer, one had a miniature portable factory at their disposal.
However, Chu Jun looked at the list of blueprints on the printer's screen and shook his head in frustration. Although the list contained a fair number of blueprints, they were mostly basic devices, and most were outdated models. For example, the primary self-defense weapon was just a pistol, and it was even powered by gunpowder. In the base, he had never even heard of such an ancient weapon, let alone seen one.
However, this portable printer had to consider both versatility and cost, with cost being the primary consideration. As a result, the materials it could process were quite limited, and it could not print advanced equipment.
Chu Jun browsed the list and decided on a few items to manufacture. First, he needed a self-defense weapon, followed by essential survival tools. A multi-functional combat knife could meet most of his needs.
Next, he needed a pistol and an arm shield. The close-combat gun-fighting technique version 0.1a was still stored in his memory and had been tested, creating muscle memory. The incident had been sudden, and even the base had been destroyed, so the researchers had not had time to erase his memory.
According to the interstellar survival knowledge in his memory, Chu Jun felt that with a gun, a shield, and a serrated short knife, he could basically survive on a typical primitive ecosystem planet. Unless the creatures were exceptionally large or in large numbers, most predators would be no problem.
He looked around the survival pod and found another small box, which contained several cylindrical rods. Most were basic metals like iron and copper, plus two carbon rods.
These cylindrical rods were the raw materials specifically for the universal material printer.
With the basic materials, he still couldn't make a gun. He needed to first produce gunpowder, then ammunition, and finally the pistol. A gun without bullets was no better than a stick for burning. The P1911 in the stored blueprints looked square and retro, but it was unclear which ancient weapon it was paying homage to.
It seemed he needed to gather some materials and explore the surrounding environment. The survival pod was completely damaged, and he didn't know how long he would have to stay on this cursed planet.
If this planet truly had no intelligent life and was not listed among the discovered planets, Chu Jun would have to be prepared to build an interstellar spacecraft from scratch with his own hands.
Fortunately, his former self was an experimental subject, and he had not yet formed a clear concept of time and life, so he did not seriously consider how long it would take to complete this task.
Chu Jun moved everything usable from the survival pod and set up a simple workbench using the seat back. He placed the printer on it, inserted a polymer battery, and selected the multi-functional combat knife from the manufacturing blueprints.
The four printing arms of the printer were in position, and the top cover slid open, revealing the material inlet.
Seeing the four parallel inlets, Chu Jun couldn't help but curse in his mind. With just these few inlets, how much material could be processed at once? The equipment that could be printed with this amount of material was naturally small, and even larger small equipment could not be handled. Deep Space Energy had truly cut costs to the extreme.
A combat knife didn't require four materials. Chu Jun took an iron rod and a carbon rod, inserted them into the inlets, and started the printing process.
The four printing arms each emitted a beam, layering the materials. It didn't take long for the combat knife to take shape.
Chu Jun picked up the knife, bent the blade to test its strength, and could only shake his head. A knife made from ordinary metal and printed in this way would naturally not be of high quality.
"As long as it's harder than my nails and teeth," he consoled himself.
With the knife, he had a basic tool. Chu Jun then used three metal rods and the remaining carbon rod to make an arm shield. This arm shield had only basic defensive functions, but its edges were sharp, and with a wooden handle, it could be used as an axe or a shovel.
After making these two items, there wasn't much material left. He picked up the scanner and examined it. This device was somewhat similar to a monocular combat visor, with a half-frame lens that had display capabilities. The emission ports on the frame could emit scanning beams to identify most common materials.
Chu Jun put on the scanner, tried it out briefly, and then threw it aside. The scanner, being part of the kit, naturally had good performance. It could indeed scan most common materials, but the issue was that common materials could be identified by the naked eye. Chu Jun's vision also had a built-in scanning function, which was much more powerful than this scanner.
However, he thought for a moment and picked up the scanner again, taking it with him. He didn't want anyone to notice any differences between him and ordinary people, so it was better to carry the scanner. Although he wouldn't use its scanning function, it could at least shield the wind in bad weather.
After tidying up, Chu Jun searched the area around the survival pod, collecting scattered metal fragments. Once he built a refining machine, he could refine these metal fragments back into raw materials. The materials used to build the survival pod were high-grade interstellar alloys, which were not available on every planet, and even if they were, some components were very difficult to extract.
The survival pod had plowed a deep trench over a hundred meters long on the ground. Chu Jun decided to follow this trench, slowly exploring the nearby forest.
As he walked, Chu Jun scanned the rocks and plants along the way.
At the edge of the forest, the ground was covered with low vegetation and weeds, primarily composed of carbon, with a high sulfur content. These elements had wide-ranging uses and were the foundation of many materials.
At least the ecosystem of this planet was fundamentally similar to that of the human home planet, meaning many technologies could be applied universally.
Among the rocks on the ground, a few dark silver-yellow stones caught Chu Jun's attention. He bent down to pick one up and examined it closely.
A scanning line in his vision swept over the stone, quickly analyzing its composition. The stone contained a large amount of iron and sulfur, as well as a small amount of nickel and trace elements of unknown composition.
This was a pyrrhotite, and it was on the surface. Perhaps due to the extremely high sulfur content and low oxygen in the air, it had not been weathered.
With pyrrhotite, he had a source of basic metals and fundamental chemical materials.
Chu Jun found a few more pyrrhotite stones nearby, put them in his backpack, and marked the location on the mental map in his head. If there were minerals on the surface, there were likely mineral deposits underground. With some luck, he might even find copper.
After walking a bit further, he reached the edge of the forest.
Chu Jun drew his knife and approached a large tree.
The trees here were tall and straight, often reaching dozens of meters in height. The trunks were smooth, and only the tops had large leaves, which were dark red on the upper side.
As he approached the tree, a small creature suddenly darted out from behind it and lunged at Chu Jun!
In an instant, the basic combat techniques version 11.07x loaded in his memory. He leaned back, thrust the knife upward, and pierced the attacking creature in mid-air.
The entire action was fluid, with perfect speed, angle, and timing, demonstrating the ultimate use of basic combat techniques.
The creature on Chu Jun's knife was a small animal with a dark red and dark green fur pattern, almost blending into the forest environment. It was very resilient, still struggling and threatening Chu Jun with its roars even after being pierced.
Chu Jun reached out and grabbed its neck, twisting it. The creature felt light, and he didn't know if its meat was toxic. If it wasn't, he wouldn't have to worry so much about food.
He put the small creature in his backpack and approached a large tree, lightly tapping the trunk, which produced a hollow sound.
Chu Jun continued tapping, and based on the echoes, the internal structure of the trunk gradually formed in his mind.
The trunk was hollow, with an outer wall about a palm thick and some large, vein-like tubes inside.
He drew his knife and forcefully inserted it into the trunk, then gripped the handle with both hands and used the serrated edge to saw through it, finally creating a small opening.
The trunk was made of hard fiber, quite sturdy, and would be a good building material, but it was a bit thin.
Chu Jun cut open one of the internal tubes and used the tip of his knife to collect some sap. When he brought the knife close to his nose, he smelled a pungent odor. He frowned, realizing the sap contained strong acids and was unsuitable for direct consumption. He would need to find another source of water.
He carefully explored the edge of the forest, discovering several different shrubs and a few types of fruit. Unfortunately, most of the fruits had only basic nutritional value and were not worth eating.
After searching for a while, Chu Jun suddenly felt a burning sensation in his chest and began to cough.
The discomfort came from his lungs, indicating that he had inhaled too much toxic gas from the planet. Even as an experimental subject, he could not tolerate the accumulated toxins.
He slowed his breathing and quickened his pace, returning to the survival pod.
The survival pod still had some basic oxygen reserves. Although not much, with his experimental subject's constitution, the oxygen that would last an ordinary person for a few hours could sustain him for several days.
