Chapter 9

I bought the skills [Gathering], [Appraisal], and [Disassembly] at the item shop.
It cost a total of 3000 gil.
It was quite an expense.
By the way, it was like this.
◇ Auxiliary Skill Tree
[Throwing]
- Accuracy Lv1/3
- Range Lv1/3
[Grapple]
- Power Lv1/3
- Duration Lv1/3
[Gathering]
- Proficiency Lv1/3
- Keen Eye Lv1/3
[Disassembly]
- Proficiency Lv1/3
- Speed Lv1/3
[Appraisal]
- Insight Lv1/6
To be honest, I thought it would be better to consolidate everything into proficiency.
I thought, "Why not just summarize it all into proficiency?"
With the sudden increase in auxiliary skills, I wondered where I would get the money.
Of course, I sold the [Dōgi].
Although I couldn't sell the [Black Belt], it fetched a decent price, which was good.
What will I do when I go to the dojo next time?
I'll just borrow it again.
I then bought some simple rations at the item shop and decided to head to the forest from the south gate.
Thanks to the [Gathering] skill, I realized that some of the weeds I had thought were just growing by the roadside were actually herbs used as potion ingredients.
I wondered if I needed to acquire the [Mixing] skill to make potions.
But I didn't have the spare points for that.
I needed to use my points carefully.
I wanted to level up my auxiliary skills as much as possible without using skill points.
A Green Rabbit appeared on the way.
"Boost, Apport, Slash"
As usual, I started by throwing my longsword.
I used [Apport] to retrieve the sword and then hit the rabbit with [Slash].
With [Boost], I felt my movements were enhanced.
I could cut the Green Rabbit's HP by about half with one hit.
I kicked it while it was stunned, and then stabbed it from above, causing it to vanish in a burst of light.
My level had increased.

[Slash]

- Consumption Lv1/10
- Proficiency Lv1/10
- Speed Lv1/10
[Apport]
- Accuracy Lv2/10
- Range Lv2/10
- Weight Lv7/10
- Chant Lv1/1
For now, I focused on increasing the weight.
Since I didn't have much trouble with accuracy and range, I thought I could improve them last.
The closer the distance and the lighter the weight, the less the accuracy would fluctuate.
I couldn't throw a greatsword.
Even if it became a rapier, I would shift towards thrusting rather than throwing.
Thanks to [Disassembly], I got two items: meat and fur.
I needed to verify this.
So, I continued using [Gathering] to collect herbs.
I kicked away the Green Rabbits and collected herbs along the way.
There was a sign at the entrance to the forest.
[Be cautious of goblins. The southern forest has a goblin settlement.]
...Why don't they just exterminate them?
I couldn't really tell the difference in danger between Forest Wolves and goblins, but I heard there were no paths in the southern forest.
Perhaps it had been left alone because of that.
I pushed through the grass and entered.
A little further in, there was a rich area of herbs.
Now that the herb-selling pipeline was established, this seemed like a gold mine.
"Gigi?"
I made eye contact with a goblin.
It seemed to be gathering herbs like me.
"Gigi!"
"Damn."
It suddenly lunged at me, so I used my longsword as a shield.
"Gih!?"
"Apport, Boost!"
I used [Apport] to pull the longsword, which was stuck in its shoulder, back to me, and then used [Boost] to enhance my physical abilities. I circled around the stunned goblin and twisted its neck.
It was easier to do with a goblin than with animal-type monsters.
After all, goblin necks aren't that thick.
The drops were [Goblin Bone] and [Magic Stone (Small)].
I immediately appraised them.
[Goblin Bone]
The strongest backbone of a goblin.
Only among goblins.
[Magic Stone (Small)]
Can be used as various materials.
The size and luster change according to its value.
Hmm, it was my first goblin drop, but the bone seemed like something I could sell.
I decided to keep the magic stone for now.
At first, I was frustrated by making various wrong choices.
But now it was becoming fun.
Herbs heal wounds.
So, the goblins must know how to use herbs and come here.
If that's the case, they would come again.
Sure enough, multiple goblins came to gather herbs.
"Gigi?"
"Gigi-gi!"
There were three of them.
It might be a bit tough solo, but I could manage if I was careful of their clubs and bites.
I threw my sword as a first move.
It didn't hit the throat, but it stuck in the stomach.
"Gigi-gi!"
"Giiii!"
"Boost!"
I circled around the goblin that started to make a fuss, emerging from the grass.
I twisted the neck of one of them 180 degrees.
"Apport! Slash!"
I used [Apport] to bring the sword back and used [Slash] to slash the body of the goblin that was shaken by the death of its companion.
I managed to incapacitate two of them, but I received a counterattack.
The goblin that had been hit by the sword was swinging its club, spilling its organs from its stomach.
I guarded with my longsword, but it was knocked away.
Mages lack toughness, even with [Boost].
I needed to remember this as a challenge.
I threw my longsword at the goblin that raised its club for a follow-up attack.
"Gigi!"
The longsword was knocked away, but it didn't matter.
"Apport!"
I pulled the sword, which was spinning in a spiral, back to me.
I accidentally grabbed the blade, but I stabbed the goblin anyway.
The sword hit the goblin's neck, which was delayed by the action of knocking it away.
The goblin fell, spraying blood, and vanished in a burst of light particles.
The drops were three [Goblin Bones] and one [Magic Stone (Small)].
I also got a new drop: [Goblin Club] and [Goblin Skull].
I appraised the drop items while applying a basic healing potion.
[Goblin Club]
A club held by a goblin.
There are two types: a bundle of branches or a carved piece of wood.
[Goblin Skull]
A goblin's skull.
Used in alchemy.
Hmm, it seemed like I got something rare.
I needed to consider leveling up [Disassembly].
By the way, the club was made of carved wood.
After that, I fought a few more goblins that came to gather herbs.
My level increased.
I was getting tired, and I had secured enough, so I decided to head back.
I thought about where to allocate my points.
Since [Slash] was almost maxed out in power, I decided to allocate them there.
My level-ups had accelerated significantly.

Consumption, proficiency, and speed wouldn't be useful for a downward slash.
As long as I had power, it was enough.
I decided to allocate the remaining points to [Apport].
My bag was full of herbs, goblin bones, and magic stones.
The club was equipped with the longsword.
What should I do with the skull?
I ended up tying it to my waist.
It worked out this way.
The sun was setting.
I kicked away the Green Rabbits and headed back.
