V1: CHAPTER 1 PART 1 — REINCARNATION

It felt wonderful, like being inside a warm sea. Inside the calm water flow, it felt like being wrapped in gentle air. Strangely enough, it didn’t feel suffocating. It felt very comfortable, free from gravity.

As I was dozing off inside such warmth, the water flow suddenly became violent. The sea of affection that had enveloped me was being drained away. It was getting harder and harder to breathe.

So anxious and unable to stand still at the sudden change, I desperately struggled to get to where the water was flowing away, seeking some warmth.

I could see a light up there. The light was getting bigger and brighter. But the rope-like thing clinging to my body was pulling me away and wouldn’t let me go over there.

Let go! I must get outta here! I gotta go back to that warm sea!

I struggled desperately to find a way out. I couldn’t breathe.

Suddenly, the wall that had been pressing down to squash me disappeared, and I sensed that I was suddenly being thrown outside.

Bright!

And then at once, cold came rushing in.

So cold!

Searching for air, I took a deep breath.

“OWAAAHH… OWAAAHH!”

My consciousness was rapidly waking up.

Looks like I’ve been reborn.

*

Afterwards, at the same time that I learned that I’d been reborn, I rapidly grew sleepy and then lost consciousness. Since I remembered hearing what sounded like a person’s voice with my ears that still couldn’t hear well yet, and having my body washed with lukewarm water, it seemed that my birth had gone off without a hitch.

And for a while after that, I kept repeating sucking boobs and sleeping, hugging, pooping, sucking boobs, sleeping, pooping, crying, sleeping, crying at night, sucking boobs, and sleeping. Even though I could clearly remember the memories of my previous life, I couldn’t resist that urge. Despite having my memory, it seemed to be a part that couldn’t be helped because I was a baby. I was an under-a-year-old baby with unmatched mental age.

In the meantime, four years passed one way or another. In the beginning, it was really rough because I couldn’t control my urges. At any rate, I would quickly get hungry, poop, and to make it worse, I would get sleepy every five minutes. Since the only emotions I’d feel were pleasure and discomfort, all I could do was basically crying or sleeping.

Recently, my mind had finally settled down, and I was able to control my emotions to a certain extent, but it’d been really rough until I got used to it. While feeling sorry for my dad and mom for waking them up in the middle of the night, I’d keep crapping myself as hard as I could and biting on her nipples with my toothless gums. Thanks to this, my young and pretty mom’s pink nipples had become a little darkened.

Now then, even such a me had become four years old. Now I was able to maintain some presence of mind and was able to easily handle daily conversation although awkwardly.

“Mama, I wanna eat rango.”

“Oh, Har-kun. Do you want some rango fruit?”

“Yup, I want some.”

Rango fruit was a fruit like an apple on Earth. The taste and texture were just like an apple, but for some reason, the color was poisonous-looking deep blue.

And of course, since all of my teeth had come out, I could even eat hard food like rango. In this world where sweetness was scarce, I loved lango fruit because it was one of the few natural sweetness that I could enjoy.

Now then, my mother had called me “Har-kun” earlier, but that was not my real name. The correct one was, such a stupidly-long name of “Eberhard Karlheinz von Flensburg Fahrenheit.” Just as you could imagine from the fact that there was “von” in it, I had succeeded in being reborn into a noble family.

Yes, nobility. Not only I hadn’t reincarnated in Japan, I’d reincarnated in a different world, and not even on Earth! I’d reincarnated into the classic different world like the setting of fantasy novels I’d loved to read in my previous life. And I’d been born into a distinguished noble family of that other world. I was suddenly the winner of life from the very beginning. For the past few years, I’d successfully led a very comfortable baby and toddler life far away from the strict family precepts and family disputes typical of noble families—maybe the deeds of my previous life had been recognized by the gods.

My father was still very young at 27 years old, but he was already behaving admirably as the head of our House of Margrave Fahrenheit, which made me feel a little amazed since I hadn’t had a father I could respect in my previous life.

My mother was 24 years old, three years younger than my father; and I had an older sister two years older than me, which meant my mother had given birth to a child at 18. It’d be quite unusual in present day Japan, but it was normal in this world. Looking at my six-year-old sister, who looked like a Northern European beauty with white skin and blond hair—crazy cute when looked from my point of view who was over 20 years old on the inside combined with my previous life—I’d bet that I would probably be a real handsome boy. But when I thought that I’d been sucking on the nipples of a woman whose mental age was almost the same as mine, the sense of guilty pleasure was pretty crazy… I was a baby so I didn’t get sexually aroused at all, though.

And so without a hitch, I was able to grow up to the age where I could walk on my own and run as fast as I could, but that didn’t mean I’d spent the last four years sleeping and eating all the time. Of course that was basically what I did when I’d been an infant, but I was doing various verifications to see whether or not this was a different world as well.

The most obvious was this status screen that would pop up in front if you like a holographic image. That said, apparently this was not the kind that others could see. If someone had the appraisal-like abilities or something that would often appear in fantasy novels, they might be able to see into other people’s, but at least the people around me and my family didn’t seem to have that particular ability. My sister had begged my mother to see her status, but she couldn’t see it at all in the end, so there was no doubt.

And so, my status was like this:

Eberhard Karlheinz von Flensburg Fahrenheit

Life Force : 27 / 27

Mana : 12,708 / 12,708

Physical Ability : 20

Magic Attribute : —

Inherent Magic : Shock

Inherent Ability : Perseverance Makes One Stronger

First of all, my name was stupidly long. Compared to the three kanji characters I’d had in Japan, this was really more than ten times longer. It was a worthy rival to Louis and Kiss-Shot.

Age and gender were already obvious so I’d skip it, and go to life force next. It was, in short: HP, stamina. When I’d almost died of a bad cold about a year ago—that’d been quite the panic. The medical technology in this world was not as developed as present day Japan, so the infant mortality rate was staggering—it’d gone down to one, so I’d probably die when it reached zero. Mommy was a healer magician so I was saved…

Next was mana. Right, this was the biggest reason why I knew this was not on Earth. And also the existence of the status screen.

…Apparently, there was magic in this world. The sense was not present on Earth, so it was hard to explain. It was like ki in a fighting manga. I, who had realized the existence of mana some time after I’d been born, had been dedicating my little time outside of crapping myself and sleeping to manipulate it.

With sensing the mana inside and outside of me as the start, learning how to manipulate it by moving it around inside my body, changing its shape, stretching it, compressing it etc., I’d noticed that my mana had been increasing little by little as I repeated the process of circulating it inside my body and compressing it. Then, over the next three and a half years, I’d been striving hard to enhance my mana, and before I knew it, it had reached this crazy number.

By the way, once I developed the ability to sense mana to a certain extent, I was able to sense the mana filling the body of others. As a result, I’d found out that my father had about 4,000, mommy 3,500, big sis 100, and the maid 85. Since it seemed that my family was a militaristic one judging from the fact that my father never missed a single day of training; repeatedly conducted mock battles with people who seemed to be his subordinates, I’d assume that the maid’s number of 85 was the average amount of mana. It would be a disaster if I got disowned because they were freaked out that my number was monster-like. So regarding this matter, I’d even come up with a technique to hide the apparent amount of mana by compressing and sealing it within my body. This technique might come in handy in the future, so I was glad that I was able to learn it now.

Next: physical ability. This was a parameter that represented the sturdiness of the body, or like the muscle strength. It seemed to be about 100 to 200 for an adult who did not do any training in particular. Well, I was four years old, so I guessed 20 was a reasonable number. Standing, walking, and occasionally running and falling over was all I could do right now. Even my six-year-old sister was able to carry me easily.

By the way, my father was like a monster. I didn’t know the exact number because I couldn’t use appraisal, but he had dragged and brought back a huge boar that looked like it weighed a ton—this was also another-world-like—to the house yard with ease, so it was possible that he might have about 5,000. And when I thought: I wonder if I can do that too someday since I’m his son…; it really was kind of inspiring since I’d been weak in my previous life.

Next was: magic attribute. I wasn’t so sure about this one. Probably, this was something like the four basic attributes or the five elements that were common in fantasy manga. Like the fire, water, wind, and earth. It’d be just guesswork no matter how much I thought about it, so I’d try to find the details by reading books or asking someone.

Next: inherent magic. I also wasn’t quite sure about this one. Probably, the people who could use it were quite rare, or maybe it was a magic that only I could use. But, I just had no idea how to use it. Nothing happened even when I shouted “Shock!” in my head or actually shouted “Shock!” But, I was shocked to find that a maid was cleaning behind me when I shouted inside a room I’d thought nobody was there, though. I got a little embarrassed seeing the smile on the maid’s face as if she’d seen something cute.

Lastly, the inherent ability: Perseverance Makes One Stronger. I suspected that this was the only and most powerful cheat in the world. Because, when I tapped on this Perseverance Makes One Stronger part, an explanation popped up as if it were an internet link.

Inherent Ability : Perseverance Makes One Stronger

Piles of dust can form mountains, and thousands of millions of raindrops can even bore into rocks. Effort will always be rewarded; as long as you continue to put in the effort, your abilities will continue to grow as well.

Growth Limit : None

The existence of this inherent ability could easily explain why my mana was so abnormal. It didn’t seem to be a lie in the explanation that I’d grow just by putting in effort.

A cheat was essential in another world reincarnation. You could even call it a trope. Some of them had no cheat, where you’d have your life in a hard mode like starting out as a farmer, but for me, who’d had my previous life in a hard mode, I’d want to have a cheat harem in this life. Or at least, I’d want to have a life in a world where my effort would be rewarded.

After my accidental death, at the time I’d been ascending to heaven—to space actually—I’d wished: “If possible, I would like to live a life where my efforts would be properly rewarded.” I was not a believer of intelligent design theory, but if there was a god, I’d like to give him or her my deepest gratitude. So I believed that was why I’d reincarnated in another work like this. This time, I’d want to be rewarded. Working hard, putting effort, being rewarded, and living happily.

I was still four years old. If the lifespan of a healthy human being in this world was the same as that of a human back on Earth, then I’d have a little over 80 years left. This time, I would live a satisfying life. And then, I’d show those guys living carefreely without even putting in effort. It would be the least I could do for my previous life who’d died without being rewarded. Come now, effort! You couldn’t fail me this time!
