Chapter 10

Four people rushed to the window, their expressions freezing in place.

What appeared before their eyes was a magnificent and splendid main city, with streets lined up in neat rows, crisscrossing like a chessboard.

The buildings, filled with Baroque style, were exquisitely beautiful and orderly, surrounding the duke's castle at the center of the main city like stars around the moon.

The elegant and grand layout made the main city look like a masterpiece by the great artist Van Gogh, full of beauty, resembling a dignified and noble lady.

But now, this noble lady had already lain in the cemetery, because the main city was dead!

"What is this place? Where did everyone go?" Tony couldn't hide his shock.

Everyone was silent; they couldn't answer.

This large main city was covered in dust, devoid of any vitality, as if it had been buried in a cemetery, shrouded in a layer of coffin.

"If the city was destroyed by war, why are the buildings intact?" Robinson racked his brain but found no answer.

"Are we underground?" Duren looked up and saw only a thick layer of black clouds, with not a single ray of sunlight penetrating.

The reason they could see the distant scenery was because of the dark red glowing fireflies floating everywhere, forming light bands like auroras. The buildings were also covered with a kind of dark moss, emitting a green fluorescence.

"Wealthy!" Robinson suddenly growled, breaking the silence of the bedroom.

"Are you out of your mind? Those wandering on the streets are undead creatures, not gold coins!" Tony complained, the ghouls wandering the streets almost driving him mad. If he were discovered, he would definitely be torn to pieces.

Robinson ignored Tony and excitedly rushed to the furniture, rummaging through it. In no time, he found a money bag.

"What are you doing?"

Pierre couldn't help but complain, but the next second, he was stunned into silence. After thousands of years, the fabric had long since weathered. Before Robinson could untie it, the money bag crumbled into pieces, and dozens of coins clinked and rolled onto the floor.

Tony's eyes almost bulged out, the golden glow making his breathing heavy.

"Indeed, it seems the war came suddenly, and the residents didn't have time to take their personal property when they evacuated." Robinson picked up a gold coin, feeling the cold metal, his voice trembling, "Considering the size of this main city, it must have had at least 600,000 people. The enormous wealth of 600,000 people is all there, waiting for us to dig it up."

"Not just that, the deposits in the banks, the goods in the shops, and the treasures in the nobles' treasure rooms are all ours now!"

Tony stared at the castle in the city center, his eyes burning. "To own such a main city, it must be a powerful, hereditary noble with a thousand-year-old family. How much wealth could he have? Endless!"

Except for Duren, the four people subconsciously swallowed their saliva. If they obtained this, they wouldn't be as rich as a country, but becoming billionaires would be no problem. Just the nobles alone had many multimillionaires, and now their gold coins were all theirs.

Duren's face remained unchanged, but his heart was almost burning with anxiety. The wealth of this entire city was practically forcing him to die.

This was a golden opportunity to become a billionaire easily. Who would want to share it with strangers they had just met? Not to mention, the two people they had to share with were so weak that they could be killed with a finger.

Huge wealth is always the perfect test of human nature, and many people would fail!

Duren was very self-aware. Robinson and the others were old partners and might share equally, but he and Duren were strangers. Most importantly, in their eyes, these two were completely helpless.

The most troublesome thing was that during the previous escape, Robinson and the others had already shown hostility. If Duren hadn't realized that they had hired him just to use him as bait, he would be hopelessly stupid.

"A dead end!" Duren smiled bitterly. It was like the goddess of fate had lifted her skirt, revealing her seductive black stockings, but then suddenly changed her mind and spat in his face.

"Don't forget that the concentration of mana here is the most important resource!" Duren, excited, interjected.

On the Western Continent, any area with a higher concentration of mana than the average was a treasure land fought over by major countries, as it could cultivate more and stronger mana users, directly enhancing the country's war strength.

Such a treasure land was extremely valuable. Even if it didn't enhance one's own strength, just passing the information to the king, if verified, would immediately grant the contributor a hereditary noble title of at least a baron.

This wasn't a dilapidated noble, but a feudal lord with a real fief, a capital for an ordinary person to leap into the upper class.

"I'm going to buy a dozen elven maids and a dozen fox girls, and change them every night!" Tony's acne was about to burst, babbling about how he would enjoy life in the future.

"Those ghouls aren't mud, to be kneaded at will. And there might be other undead creatures. If you don't clear them out, you'll never get those sleeping gold coins."

Duren poured cold water, not giving up, and started to save himself. When wealth couldn't be easily obtained, they would face the current crisis seriously. Duren needed to show his value so they wouldn't kill him immediately.

"Stay alive, and there's a chance!" Duren thought of the Magic Codex and the fivefold mana concentration here. He should be able to quickly reach the Soul Stage.

The four people's ecstatic expressions faded, finally realizing that the situation wasn't as optimistic as they had imagined.

"We don't have much food. If we can't find supplies within two days, we'll definitely starve to death!" Duren deliberately set a deadline to emphasize the urgency, indicating that more people meant more strength.

The four people's faces were grim. Fortunately, Duren hadn't discarded his backpack, or everyone would be starving.

"I wish I hadn't thrown away my backpack." Tony beat his chest, regretting it, and then his face showed a hint of cruelty. Killing them would save two portions of food and, of course, two huge fortunes.

"Fortunately, Duren was prepared!" Robinson smiled, placing his right hand on Tony's shoulder and pressing it, signaling him to calm down.

"Duren, you won't monopolize the food, right?" Pierre quickly gave his friend a signal to stop, knowing each other's thoughts through small gestures.

"Of course not, let's see the situation. There are many ghouls in this building, and I need your help to deal with them. If I die, I'm done too. Damn, I wish I were at the Soul Stage!" Duren showed a depressed expression, subtly emphasizing the strength disparity, indicating that he was no threat.

"Don't worry, you won't be shortchanged. In the end, I'll give you an extra share of gold!" Robinson reassured Duren, acting like a generous benefactor.

Duren happily punched Duren's chest.

"Kid, you're going to make a fortune. How are you going to spend it?" Tony put his arm around Duren's shoulder, feigning affection, but inside, he was laughing. Two fools, being played by Robinson and not even realizing it. If he let them leave alive, he'd be seeing ghosts.

"Buy a complete set of excellent lynx armor, a few purebred Frania horses, an estate, and servants. These are all necessary!" Duren looked forward to it, narrating his dreams to麻痹 the opponents, but inside, he was sneering.

His strength couldn't protect the food. If he didn't hand it over, it would anger the others, and a beating would be the least of his worries. If the relationship soured, any small actions would be inconvenient.

"Five days' worth of food, one portion each, right?" Duren was worried about being completely robbed and distributed it directly.

Robinson, seeing that Duren wasn't hiding anything, nodded.

"Time is tight, let's go find the mana stones!" Duren urged, this guy being thick-skinned and not sensing the hostility.

"How do we split up?" Duren looked at Pierre. "How about we form a group? Our strength is weak, and we'll die if we act alone!"

Robinson had planned to keep Duren and Duren close to monitor them, but hearing this, he hesitated.

"No, it's a waste of time and manpower. We'll act separately, each responsible for one area." Pierre rejected it outright.

"But it's too dangerous." Duren feigned reluctance, actually using a retreat to advance. If he proposed acting alone, Robinson would definitely suspect him.

Robinson slowly opened the door, the rusty hinges creaking. He poked his head out to observe the situation.

"No danger, stop talking nonsense. Time is short, let's get moving!"

Robinson gave a signal, and Tony and Pierre immediately pulled Duren and Duren out of the bedroom.

"One each!" Robinson pointed to the stairs at both ends of the corridor, challenging them, "You're not cowards, are you?"

"You're the coward, Duren, be careful!" Duren rolled his eyes and extended his right hand.

"You too!"

Slap, Duren waved his hand and high-fived his friend.

Duren cautiously moved forward, leaning against the wall and taking a deep breath after going down the stairs.

"Finally, I've temporarily saved my life!" Duren noticed that his back was drenched in sweat, which dripped onto the floor, wetting the dust.

"This seems to be a hotel. No matter, let's find a place to hide and absorb mana!"

Looking at the quiet corridor, Duren suppressed the impulse to choose a nearby room and walked to the middle. He left some footprints at a door, creating the illusion of entering, then retraced his steps and pushed open another door, jumping inside.

"No footprints, they shouldn't find me quickly!" Duren had to be cautious, "Duren, don't be a fool and come back!"

Sitting cross-legged on the bed, he took out the Magic Codex and placed it on his lap. Duren took a few deep breaths and began vortex meditation. Time was too tight, and he didn't even have time to talk to Homa.
