Chapter 31 – Jinx the Mother, Jinx the Husband, Jinx the Mother-in-law (1)
Before Old Madam Shen could say anything, Shen Ziqiao looked at her with gratitude and smiled, “Indeed. It’s all thanks to our grandmother, or else my sisters and I would not be living so well.”
Mama Gu casually inquired, “Really? Like I said, Old Madam really does teach well.”
“As someone who is fated to jinx their mother, husband and mother-in-law, I would have died long ago if not for grandmother’s devoted care. I cannot simply express how grateful I am to grandmother.” Shen Ziqiao earnestly stated, crying tears of gratitude that could easily arouse one’s empathy.
“Jinx your mother….. Jinx your mother-in-law…” Mama Gu was dumbstruck, her expression became as if she had just swallowed a housefly.
“Indeed. Though I am still young, I do know that it is due to giving birth to me that my mother fell sick and passed away several years later. Grandmother had my fate foretold and it was declared I would have a hard-life, one that would jinx my mother, my husband and my mother-in-law. Fortunately, grandmother did not disdain me and instead raised me well. It is my own insensibility that constantly antagonizes her.” Shen Ziqiao revealed remorsely.
Mama Gu’s complexion started to turn green, “Is…Is that so?”
She took a quick peek at Old Madam Shen, how had this matter not been told to their family’s madam? That would mean that they were simply trying to marry off this ominous granddaughter, Shen Ziqiao, hastily, hence, the reason why they did not seem to mind if the Eldest Young Master happened to be a fool.
But what if this daughter-in-law ends up jinxing the Madam?
The more Mama Gu thought, the more furious she became and the more her expression turned sour.
Old Madam Shen looked at Shen Ziqiao coldly. Her gaze had turned sinister and ruthless as if she wanted to eat Shen Ziqiao alive.
“It is true.” Shen Ziqiao pretended not to see Old Madam Shen’s expression. Muttering to herself, she looked at Mama Gu with an extremely brilliant smile on her face.
Mama Gu’s smile grew forced, standing up, she turned to Old Madam Shen and said, “Old Madam Shen, nubi still has to report back to the Madam, thus she cannot stay any longer.”
Old Madam Shen finally managed out a response at this, “Mama Li, see Mama Gu out.”
Mama Li responded and led Mama Gu to the doors.
With a smile on her face, Shen Ziqiao watched Mama Gu depart and picked up the teacup, scraping first the rim of the teacup before taking a sip of the refreshing and fragrant tea.
Old Madam Shen felt her chest tremble with anger when she saw the look of contentment on Shen Ziqiao’s face. Suppressing the fury surging out from inside her, she asked patiently, “Who taught you to talk like this?”
“Nobody taught me, I am merely speaking the truth, unless you are implying that I spoke wrongly, grandmother?” Shen Ziqiao looked at her with wide innocent eyes and smilingly asked.
Old Madam Shen sneered, “You think you’re ready to spread your wings?”
“Grandmother, I don’t have any wings.” Shen Ziqiao responded seriously.
“Don’t think that by saying those words your wish will come true, don’t even bother dreaming of marrying the Ninth Wangye. With what you have, or rather what you lack thereof, you think you could possibly marry into the Imperial family? Get out, get out of here.” Old Madam Shen was so furious that if she did not chase Shen Ziqiao out, she might have throttled her to death herself.
Shen Ziqiao smilingly stated, “Grandmother, as I am still young, marriage is the least of my worries. Besides, the Eldest and Second sisters have not even been proposed with the idea of marriage yet.”
Old Madam Shen glared at her as her face darkened, “So you decide to deal with me by tarnishing your own reputation? You are still very much inexperienced.”
“Grandmother, hasn’t this been what you’ve told me all this while? How would this be me tarnishing my own reputation?” Shen Ziqiao asserted. She did not want to marry Qi Zheng as part of anyone’s scheme, nor was she any more willing to marry whatever Ninth Wangye or actually any men at all.
She would decide her own marriage.
“I don’t want to see you.” Old Madam Shen closed her eyes. “Go back to your room and reflect on your deeds today. Think of how you are going to explain your actions to your father when he returns.”
