Perhaps due to the late hour, there weren't many people in the restaurant. Apart from the table where the two black men were sitting, there were only four or five other customers in the corner, and the waiters were standing near the counter. From the transparent glass wall, the situation inside the restaurant was clearly visible, ensuring a good shooting effect.
While dialing 911, Murphy activated the recording function on his phone, always prepared for any eventuality.
"This is the 911 emergency line!" A woman's voice came through the receiver, "What's the matter?"
"Hello, I want to report something," Murphy said, staring intently at the two black men through the glass wall. "The location of the two criminals who committed the robbery and murder in Santa Monica Valley on Bill Road last night."
The person on the other end of the line immediately asked, "Where are you?"
"I'm following them," Murphy had already prepared his script. "They just parked at the intersection of Ronald Way and 7th Street in Beverly Hills, and now they've entered a chain pizza place called 'Maurice's.' I can see them ordering food inside."
"Great!" The other person confirmed, "Is it the 'Maurice's' chain pizza place at the intersection of Ronald Way and 7th Street in Beverly Hills?"
"Yes, that's right!" Murphy paused slightly as he saw the waiter serve food to the two black men, then continued, "I can confirm that these are the two criminals who committed the murder last night. It's them!"
"Can you describe their features briefly?"
Hearing this, Murphy's lips curled slightly, "Of course! One black man is wearing a striped jacket, and the other is wearing a beige long coat. They are both bald, around thirty years old, and they are the only two black men in the restaurant."
"Sir..."
Perhaps because it involved a reward, the other person asked, "What's your name? How can we contact you?"
"Murphy, Murphy Stanton," Murphy answered immediately, "This is my phone number."
He added, "I see that they seem to be carrying guns!"
"You said they have weapons?"
At this point, Murphy had no intention of continuing, "Sorry, I have to hang up. I think they've noticed me."
Of course, this was just an excuse. After hanging up and putting away his phone, Murphy took the handheld camera from the passenger seat, turned it on skillfully, and aimed the lens at the two black men inside the restaurant through the lowered car window.
He focused intently, determined to capture the scene he had directed with high quality.
The crime took place in the wealthy area of Santa Monica, and this was the famous Beverly Hills. Murphy believed that the police would not ignore the information he provided and would send personnel immediately.
Would the two criminals surrender peacefully?
From the scene last night, the possibility of this was almost zero. How could such ruthless black men not resist the police?
Although he hadn't seen the two black men with guns, Murphy guessed that the likelihood of a gunfight breaking out was very high.
Think about it, this would be an incredibly real police-criminal gunfight. The gunfight scene in Michael Mann's "Heat" was praised for its classical realism, but compared to what might happen next, that scene would be nothing.
Even before entering Hollywood, he had the opportunity to shoot an extremely intense gunfight, which was truly rare.
More importantly, once he captured the police-criminal gunfight, how much could the news video sell for?
The number of vehicles on the road was decreasing, and the surroundings gradually became quiet. The occasional night breeze that blew into the car brought a chill to Murphy, who already had sweat on his forehead. Although the scene was unfolding exactly as he had planned, he still felt nervous as the climax approached.
Time seemed to stand still. Murphy held his breath, watching the two black men through the camera. They were still eating and wouldn't leave for a while.
A police car quietly turned onto the road, coming from the opposite direction of Murphy. It stopped by the side of the road near the pizza place, and two patrol officers got out and walked towards the restaurant's front door.
"Finally, they're here!"
Murphy muttered to himself, switching the camera to a wide-angle lens. When the two patrol officers reached the entrance of the restaurant, he included them in the shot.
The two patrol officers pushed open the door and walked into the restaurant. They didn't seem to notice the two black men and walked straight to the counter, as if they were just ordinary customers coming for a late-night snack.
However, their appearance clearly alerted the two black men. Murphy could see clearly through the camera that both black men had placed their hands inside their clothes. The fatter one even took something out and placed it under the table.
The parking position was carefully chosen by Murphy. From this angle, he could see under the table. Murphy immediately switched to a close-up shot, and on the small screen of the handheld camera, a black M9 pistol appeared, with the barrel pointing at the two patrol officers.
Murphy skillfully switched between wide-angle and close-up shots, like a director and cinematographer, meticulously capturing all the exciting moments.
So far, the location, the shooting background, and the main characters on both sides were all in place. Murphy was just waiting for the final gunfight to begin.
However, the two black men were still restrained. They weren't sure why the police were there, as the officers might have just come for a late-night snack.
Another police car arrived from the opposite direction, stopping near the first one. Two more police officers got out and walked towards the restaurant.
These two patrol officers moved very slowly, checking their guns as they walked. Although they put them back in their holsters, they were clearly prepared to use them.
Murphy's lens temporarily left the restaurant and focused on the two patrol officers, following them back inside.
Although the two police officers also walked towards the counter, as if they were just coming for a late-night snack, the expressions of the two black men changed. In the close-up shot, Murphy could clearly see them whispering to each other, and then the fatter one stood up.
"Oh, God!"
Murphy saw clearly that as the fatter black man stood up, the hand holding the M9 pistol raised and pointed at the second patrol officer.
The police reacted quickly, reaching for their holsters as the black man stood up.
"Bang! Bang..."
The gunshots rang out. Blood spurted from one of the police officers, who fell backward. The two black men fired at the police, and the remaining officers drew their weapons and returned fire.
The fatter black man was the second to be hit, a bullet apparently striking his head. At such close range, being hit by a large-caliber pistol, a large cloud of blood burst from the back of his head, splattering the glass wall behind him, staining a large area red.
At this point, the other customers in the restaurant, who had been terrified, let out shrill screams.
Perhaps because they lived in a country where guns were widespread and had received some education, the customers did not run around in panic but instead crouched under the tables, thus avoiding being hit.
Although he was shouting "God," Murphy's hands remained steady, capturing everything on camera.
The gunfight in the restaurant was more real and brutal than any movie scene.
In just a few seconds, the second police officer was hit, and the blood that flowed from his body was so vivid and glaring, it seemed to attract everyone's attention.
The remaining black man was extremely fierce. After shooting down the second police officer, he turned and fired a shot at the glass wall behind him. The glass shattered like ice, and he leaped out of the restaurant into the alley where the car was parked, opened the door of the black car, and got in.
The two police officers continued to fire, but unlike in movies, it was extremely difficult for them to hit the people inside the car, which was already speeding away.
The black car drove out of the alley and turned onto the road where Murphy's Ford was parked. Seeing more police cars coming to support and chase the black criminals, Murphy quickly installed the handheld camera on the passenger seat's bracket, aimed the lens forward, and started the car to follow.
At the front, the black man was driving in a panic; in the middle, a police car was in hot pursuit; and at the back, Murphy was closely following, with the camera still recording.
The speed of the cars increased, and in a moment, they were approaching 70 miles per hour. However, neither the criminals, the police, nor Murphy showed any signs of slowing down.
In a moment, the black car reached a crossroads and encountered a red light. The black man definitely wouldn't stop and charged through the intersection without slowing down.
This was the bustling Beverly Hills, one of the most prosperous areas in all of Los Angeles, even at midnight, with many vehicles still on the road.
In movies, driving through a busy intersection with a red light is always a close call, but reality is not a movie.
The black car charged into the intersection and, halfway through, was hit by a speeding Chevrolet SUV that couldn't stop in time.
The screeching sound of metal collision rang out. The black car, hit by the much heavier SUV, lost balance and rolled sideways.
This was a crossroads with other vehicles passing through. The rolling black car immediately caused a chain collision, and various vehicles crashed into each other like bumper cars in a park, creating a chaotic mess.
Murphy hit the brakes, and his Ford car barely stopped outside the intersection. Seeing the situation inside, he immediately took the handheld camera from the passenger seat, which was still recording, and switched to manual mode.
Not only that, Murphy jumped out of the car and rushed to the accident scene, looking for a suitable angle to capture this rare accident.
At this moment, the door of the black car, which had caused the accident, was kicked open from the inside, and a blood-covered man staggered out, supporting himself on the ground with his free hand, trying to stand up.
Not only Murphy, but also the police from the pursuit car, saw the blood-covered black man trying to stand up. The two officers, who were slowly approaching, immediately pulled the triggers...
