Chapter 8

If Yang Pan had asked nicely, Wang Zichuan could have left, but the phrase "You are not my match" greatly hurt his pride. Annoyed, he retorted, "I’ve been watching you for a while, and all you have are fancy moves! I was going to show you what real Chinese kung fu is, but since you admit defeat, I’ll let it go."

Yang Pan bit her lip, hesitating. She didn’t know if Wang Zichuan was telling the truth. She had always been fond of martial arts and had studied under many masters, though she hadn’t learned much real skill, her flexibility had improved significantly.

The Yang family hoped that Panpan would study hard and become a well-learned and talented person, but Panpan was interested in acting. At home, she often wore her mother’s costumes and posed in front of the mirror. In 1966, when Panpan was six years old, she accompanied her mother to a play. The director needed a child actor and coaxed Panpan by offering her a bottle of Pepsi. Panpan was tempted and loudly said, "I want Coca-Cola!" because Coca-Cola was more expensive than Pepsi. For a bottle of drink, Panpan played a scene where she cried by her critically ill father’s side, and the audience applauded her performance. That bottle of Coca-Cola marked the beginning of Panpan’s acting career.

"Alright, let’s see who’s better, but if you lose, no crying!"

"Cry? You’ll be the one crying!" Wang Zichuan’s blood boiled, and in a gentlemanly manner, he only took a defensive stance.

Seeing the other’s arrogance, Yang Pan clenched her fists and suddenly rushed forward three steps. She feinted with her right fist, and when Wang Zichuan dodged, her left foot kicked his waist.

"Your kung fu isn’t much either! You can’t even avoid the simplest feint."

"Hmph! That was just the appetizer. Now I’m getting serious."

Wang Zichuan looked at the determined Yang Pan and felt a moment of hesitation. He was afraid of hitting her chest or legs.

Yang Pan gave him a disdainful look.

To hell with it! Wang Zich spread his arms and lunged at her, shouting, "Watch my nothing-to-something move!"

"I’ll hug you!"

"I’ll hug you again! Ow! Your punches are too soft, they don’t hurt at all."

Wang Zich endured the pain in his chest and, taking advantage of Yang Pan’s dodge, made a feint. When Yang Pan dodged to the left, he pounced and immediately hugged her.

Feeling her chest being touched, Yang Pan was both embarrassed and angry, and struggled fiercely.

"Let me go!"

Maintaining this embarrassing position, Yang Pan was on the verge of tears.

Wang Zich shouted, "Do you admit defeat?"

"You! You’re cheating!"

How comfortable! Wang Zich savored the elasticity of her chest, wishing the moment would last longer, but he repeated, "Do you admit defeat? Do you admit defeat?"

...

"I admit defeat, let me go." Yang Pan said in a voice as soft as a mosquito’s.

Wang Zich hesitated, teasing her, "Loudly! I can’t hear you!"

Yang Pan’s face turned red, and she had to raise her voice, "I admit defeat! Now let me go."

Feeling the grip loosen, Yang Pan quickly escaped. She had wanted to teach Wang Zich a lesson, but seeing her disheveled clothes, she suppressed her urge for revenge and tidied herself up.

Wang Zich smiled triumphantly, saw two cans of Pepsi on the table, and picked them up, handing one to Yang Pan. He said, somewhat weakly, "Take a break. Look at you, all sweaty. If you go out like this, people will misunderstand."

"Damn!" Yang Pan reacted, taking the can and muttering.

Wang Zich opened the can, his eyes twinkling, and laughed silently. He sighed dramatically and put the pull tab in his pocket.

Yang Pan took a sip of the drink and, seeing Wang Zich’s silly actions, asked, "There’s a trash bag right there. Why did you put the pull tab in your pocket?"

"Ah!" Wang Zich took two steps forward and said solemnly, "You don’t know, when I was a child, my family was poor. I saw others wearing rings at weddings and asked my mother if she and my father had rings when they got married."

Yang Pan couldn’t help but ask, "What did your mother say?"

Wang Zich took the pull tab out of his pocket and said in a沧桑 (weathered) voice, "Mother said rings are just a formality. When I married your father, we used this as a ring. Son, remember, if one day you find a girl who doesn’t look down on you, put this pull tab on her finger. That girl will be your lifelong partner."

As he spoke, Wang Zich quietly slipped the pull tab onto Yang Pan’s left ring finger.

"Wife! You don’t look down on me, right? I’m so moved!"

Yang Pan’s face turned red, her voice trembling, and she said softly, "I... I’m not ready. Can you... give me a few days to think about it?"

"Ha ha ha!" Seeing the embarrassed look on her face, Wang Zich bent over laughing, took a few steps back, and explained, "I was just joking, you really believed me? That’s too funny..."

"Smack! A gentleman fights with words, not hands! Ow! You’re hitting me..."

Yang Pan gritted her teeth, feeling humiliated, and started hitting Wang Zich randomly.

Wang Zich cried out in pain and dodged, not noticing the tears streaming down her face.

Yang Pan felt like she had lost her senses and was chasing Wang Zich on instinct.

Seeing that Yang Pan wasn’t stopping, Wang Zich took a few heavy hits and kicked open the door, fleeing.

"Murdering your husband!"

"Murdering your husband!"

Yang Pan was both ashamed and angry, tears streaming down her cheeks like broken pearls.

"Stop!"

Hearing the tearful cry, Wang Zich paused and saw Yang Pan squatting on the ground, her head buried in her hands, sobbing silently. He was at a loss, and with people looking curiously, he felt extremely awkward.

Wang Zich quickly helped Yang Pan up, "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to. It was just a joke."

Yang Pan’s tears flowed, her lips trembling, and she said resentfully, "Do you joke like that? I thought... I thought you were..."

Wang Zich took the opportunity to lead Yang Pan back to the rest room and asked with a wink, "What did you think I was? Tell me!"

"I thought you were... a man of passion." Yang Pan’s face turned red, she lowered her head, and fiddled with her clothes, her soft and shy demeanor was indescribable.

Seeing the beauty with tears in her eyes, Wang Zich’s heart was filled with desire. He supported her back with his left hand and lifted her chin with his right, saying dreamily, "Your makeup is smudged. Let me clean it for you."

"Um!"

Yang Pan’s face turned red, she lifted her head slightly, and softly responded, her eyes closed, her long and neat eyelashes fluttering, as if expecting something.

"Your lips are so delicate, and your steps so light." Wang Zich whispered, praising, "Nianci, your red lips are so beautiful. Can I kiss them?"

Yang Pan’s heart pounded wildly, unsure how to respond. After a few breaths, she subconsciously replied, "I’m Panpan."

Wang Zich’s face drew closer to her red lips, and as their lips met, Yang Pan trembled. Wang Zich took the opportunity to pull her into his arms, his tongue skillfully parting her lips, greedily savoring her breath.

Yang Pan tried to struggle but felt weak. His warm tongue explored every part of her mouth, and the intoxicating sensation made her gradually respond.

Wang Zich’s hand had already reached her chest, his palm pressing and releasing, the slight bulge changing shape with each movement...

"No!"

Feeling a cool sensation on her chest, Yang Pan struggled free, took a few steps back, and glanced nervously at the door and windows. She quickly tidied her clothes, her face flushed red, and looked at Wang Zich, who was still savoring the moment, biting her lip.

"I’ll wait for you later!"

Yang Pan turned and covered her face, blushing, and left the room.

"What? Hey, wait! What did you say?" Wang Zich snapped out of his daze, but only heard her throw a sentence over her shoulder and run away, getting faster and faster until she disappeared from his sight.

"What did she say? Is she going to settle the score... or, never mind, I need to focus on the important things." Wang Zich subconsciously touched the envelope in his pocket.
