A sudden sour smell wafted over, and Su Bai frowned slightly. This thirty-year-old driver had been so frightened that he had lost control of his bladder. Did he have the courage to hit and run, but not the courage to face the vengeful ghost?
However, what was really going on here?
Su Bai was certain he wasn’t hallucinating, so the situation seemed rather bizarre.
Instinctively, he tried to open the car door, but it was locked. The driver was now so terrified that he didn’t know what to do, just cowering under the seat. The little girl who had been pressing against the windshield was still staring at him, grinning foolishly, which only made the driver more terrified.
At the same time, Su Bai felt a cold chill at the back of his neck. He looked down and saw that the white-collar woman who had been sitting in the back seat was now crouching in the gap between the front and back seats, her hands tightly around his neck, just as he had done to her in the toilet.
Su Bai pulled out his knife and slashed at the woman’s wrists, but the blade got stuck and wouldn’t budge.
The woman’s grip didn’t weaken at all; in fact, it became even stronger!
Breathing became increasingly difficult, and his lungs felt like they were about to burst. However, Su Bai felt as if he was a born psychopath. In this situation, his mind wasn’t filled with fear and panic but with absolute calm and excitement, as if he was reliving the thrill of killing.
His brain felt like it was floating, but Su Bai knew this wasn’t due to excitement but because his brain was starting to lose consciousness due to the lack of oxygen.
“Crack...”
From the beginning, Su Bai hadn’t instinctively grabbed the woman’s wrists with both hands. Using one hand to hold the knife failed, and he realized this was a dead body. Stabbing a dead body proved to be meaningless.
With his other hand, he pulled the seat adjustment lever, causing the seat to recline as far back as possible under his weight. The white-collar woman was pinned under the seat, and her hands were forced to release.
Taking a deep breath and suppressing the dizziness in his head, Su Bai pushed the seat with both hands, then pounced onto the driver, pressing the button to unlock the car door. With a “click,” the door unlocked, and Su Bai rolled out of the car from the driver’s side.
The car continued to move forward at about twenty miles per hour, but there was no sense of movement inside. When Su Bai landed, he rolled several times on the ground due to inertia, scraping his body in many places. Fortunately, he instinctively hugged his knees, protecting his vital areas.
The sound of screeching brakes echoed, and the driver seemed to realize what he needed to do. However, as he stopped the car and tried to get out, the girl with the sunken half-face dangled from the car door, her leg, which was barely connected by a bit of flesh, swinging in front of the driver. The driver screamed in terror and retreated back into the car, and the girl followed him inside.
Su Bai quickly got up, not bothering to check his injuries, and started running to the side of the road.
“Slam...”
The back door opened, and the white-collar woman began laughing, chasing after him. Her shoes scraped against the ground, making a harsh sound.
As Su Bai ran, he noticed the environment on both sides of the road was rapidly changing. What had been closed banks and convenience stores now turned into abandoned buildings with exposed rebar, protruding concrete, and overgrown weeds, creating a desolate scene. The Passion Bar was in the city, so this kind of area shouldn’t be around here.
Even the smooth road turned into a muddy path filled with gravel.
Su Bai slipped, fell forward, and landed in a puddle of sewage. Before he could get up, a whistling sound came from behind, and ten sharp objects pierced into his back muscles.
“Hiss...”
The pain made Su Bai gasp, and the weight on his back pressed him back into the sewage.
“Rip...”
The woman’s sharp nails slid down Su Bai’s back, leaving ten bloody gashes and tearing off a large piece of flesh. As Su Bai endured the pain, he grabbed a protruding rebar and, with great effort, pulled himself up, using the rebar to strangle the woman’s neck.
“Bang!”
The woman pressed down, trying to crush Su Bai, but the rebar between them deflected her force and redirected her to Su Bai’s left side. She rolled off him and fell into the mud.
“Damn it!”
Su Bai quickly got up and picked up a concrete block from the side of the road. As the woman tried to get up, he smashed it down on her head.
To be honest, if anyone else had been in this situation, they probably wouldn’t have fared much better than the driver who had wet himself. But Su Bai was different. He straddled the woman’s back and kept hitting her head with the concrete block.
Her head was so hard that the word “zombie” flashed through Su Bai’s mind.
Fortunately, this woman didn’t seem to be the type of zombie from Hong Kong zombie movies. Under his continuous hammering, her skull had caved in, and her face, pressed against the ground, was probably a gruesome sight.
However, just as Su Bai thought he could end the threat, the woman suddenly kicked her legs up, flipping herself upside down.
Su Bai was thrown forward, and the concrete block flew out of his hand. At that moment, a woman in an apron appeared on the second floor of an abandoned building. She shone a flashlight at Su Bai, making it hard for him to open his eyes, but he could hear her shouting:
“Come up here, come to me!”
Without hesitation, Su Bai ran into the abandoned building and up the bare cement stairs.
On the second floor, the woman handed Su Bai the flashlight and shouted, “Quick, go inside, hide under the bed. She won’t find you there.”
As soon as she said that, she ran down the stairs, looking very hurried.
Su Bai thought the woman looked familiar, but in the dark, with the flashlight flickering, he couldn’t see her face clearly. He continued inside.
The abandoned building was drafty, with no windows or doors, just black, square holes.
But there were some simple furnishings inside, like chairs, cabinets, and... a bed!
“Quick, go inside, hide under the bed. She won’t find you there.”
Su Bai’s mind echoed the woman’s words.
In this environment, in this eerie atmosphere, there didn’t seem to be many choices.
“Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!...”
The heavy footsteps on the stairs outside were getting closer, and the temperature was dropping. The white-collar woman was coming up!
Su Bai crouched down, then lay on the ground and crawled under the bed. The bed was dusty and a bit suffocating. He noticed some banners and posters under the bed, but the footsteps on the stairs were too clear and getting closer, so he turned off the flashlight and didn’t have time to look at them.
Taking a deep breath, he held his breath.
According to the traditional explanation in movies, zombies should only be able to find people by their breath. Although Su Bai didn’t know if holding his breath would work, he thought he should try.
“Thud! Thud! Thud!”
The footsteps were getting clearer and closer. The woman had walked up the stairs and turned into the room.
“Thud! Thud! Thud!”
Su Bai could feel the vibrations in the floor. She was coming closer, heading towards the bed.
His fingers were tightly clenched together, hoping the woman was right.
“Thud! Thud! Thud!”
Closer, closer,
Coming, coming,
Su Bai could even feel the cold air on his face, damp and icy.
Then, the woman seemed to stop at the edge of the bed.
She didn’t move!
Su Bai felt a sense of relief, thinking it had worked.
However, just as he was about to relax, his eyes instinctively moved up, and in that instant, he felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar.
Less than ten centimeters from his face, at the edge of the bed, there was a face, an upside-down face, a face that had been smashed to pieces, staring at him!
Su Bai realized that the woman had been upside down earlier, and the “thud thud thud” sounds on the stairs weren’t from her feet but from her head hitting the ground as she moved.
