"Doctor Zhao, the patient in room 205 is having an episode again."
"Alright, I know."
Putting down his legs that were resting on the desk, Doctor Zhao straightened his white coat and left his office, heading towards the second floor of the inpatient department.
As soon as he went up the stairs, he heard the sound of things being smashed and a woman's hysterical screams.
Other female psychiatric patients also stood in the hallway watching the commotion. Several nurses could only try their best to keep the patients away from room 205, as these patients had mental issues and their reactions were often slow. If something were to be thrown at them, they might not even try to dodge.
When the nurses saw Doctor Zhao, their faces showed a sense of relief, as Doctor Zhao was a Ph.D. student from a well-known American medical university. Although he had only been at the hospital for less than half a year, his ability to handle and treat psychiatric patients had been recognized by both the hospital and the patients' families.
Moreover, no matter how agitated the patients were during their episodes, Doctor Zhao could always calm them down quickly. Since Doctor Zhao arrived, the nurses felt that their work had become much easier.
Doctor Zhao pushed aside a few female psychiatric patients, nodded to the nurses, and then walked directly to room 205.
Just as he reached out to push the door open, a spittoon was thrown out. Doctor Zhao reacted quickly, sidestepping to avoid it, and the spittoon hit the wall in the hallway.
Fortunately, the hospital's rules were strict, and the wards were cleaned every morning. Otherwise, if the spittoon still contained overnight urine, even dodging the spittoon wouldn't have avoided the yellow liquid.
Doctor Zhao cleared his throat, entered the ward, and closed the door behind him.
The patient was a 19-year-old girl named Lili. She had been a college student until one night when she was raped by a group of thugs. After that, she went insane and dropped out of school. Her family, unable to control her during her episodes, had to send her to this psychiatric hospital.
"Ah! Don't come over, don't come over, don't come over!"
Seeing Doctor Zhao approaching step by step, Lili threw the blanket at him. Finding nothing else to throw, she could only crouch on the ground, covering her head and screaming hysterically.
Seeing the pitiful state of the girl, Doctor Zhao showed no sympathy. He walked straight over, grabbed Lili's hair with one hand, and lifted her up.
Lili felt a sharp pain in her scalp, tears streaming down her face. She grabbed Doctor Zhao's arm, hoping to ease her pain.
Psychiatric patients usually had their nails trimmed regularly upon admission, so no matter how hard Lili tried to scratch, she couldn't hurt Doctor Zhao.
"Bang!"
Doctor Zhao threw Lili onto the bed, then pressed one leg on her waist, pinning her down. He then grabbed her neck with one hand and said sternly, "If you scream one more time, I'll do it to you again!"
Hearing these harsh words, Lili was immediately frightened. She pursed her lips and stopped speaking.
Doctor Zhao flicked Lili's head with his index finger, applying considerable force. Lili's face showed pain, and she felt a loud "boom" in her head, her consciousness becoming hazy. When she opened her eyes again, she saw a pocket watch in front of her, swinging back and forth. A gentle voice came from her ear, and Lili's eyes slowly closed.
Lili felt as if she were in a dream. In the dream, she was pressed down on the grass by a group of thugs with tattoos and dyed yellow hair, watching them take turns doing things to her, seeing their disgusting fluids spurt onto her body.
However, at this moment, her perspective was that of an observer. In her usual nightmares, she was the one experiencing it firsthand. This change made the impact of the scene much less severe.
"Those people, except for one, have all been caught and sentenced."
At this moment, Lili suddenly realized that there was someone standing beside her.
This person was wearing a pair of sneakers, a pair of sky-blue jeans, and a loose white coat. His face had a slightly playful expression. If it were her old self, she might have fainted at the sight of him, as he was very handsome, resembling a Korean star but with a more masculine charm.
This man was naturally Doctor Zhao. He reached out and pulled Lili into his arms, and she did not struggle, being very compliant.
"You have to remember, one of the people who raped you is still on the run and hasn't been caught. Can you be content with that?
So, you need to face it properly, behave well, and no longer be a psychiatric patient. You need to be a normal person, leave this psychiatric hospital, continue your studies, find a good job, earn a salary, and then go to different places to find that scumbag;
You also need to take good care of your parents, find a man who truly loves you, have a healthy child, and raise him to adulthood. This way, your parents, your husband, and your child will help you find that scumbag. He will definitely be found, and then you can send him to prison, to a cold prison, where the prison guards and inmates will torture him..."
As Doctor Zhao spoke, Lili nodded. After a while, she felt her eyes itch and opened them to find herself lying on the bed, an IV drip in her arm, and a clean, tidy blanket covering her. A nurse was standing beside her, taking her temperature.
"Ah, you're awake? How are you feeling now? Any discomfort?"
"No... I feel good now... By the way, where is Doctor Zhao?" Lili smiled and said softly.
"Doctor Zhao? He left after you fell asleep."
"Please thank Doctor Zhao for me, thank him."
"No problem. You should rest well. Take another nap. I'll leave now."
The nurse took out the thermometer, said goodbye to Lili, and left the ward. In fact, most psychiatric patients were no different from normal people when they were not having an episode.
Lili clutched the blanket with both hands and muttered, "I can't be afraid anymore. I need to leave this hospital, go back to school, become a normal person, and find that scumbag... I need to... kill him myself..."
...
In his office, Doctor Zhao made himself a cup of instant milk tea and put a large handful of ice cubes in it. He enjoyed the sound of the ice cubes cracking in the hot water.
However, before Doctor Zhao could pick up the milk tea, another hand grabbed the cup first.
"Ah, I'm so thirsty. It's great that you have an ice maker here, Xiao Zhao."
The person who took the cup was the head nurse of the inpatient department, Zhao Meifen, in her early thirties, with a well-endowed figure and a seductive demeanor, like a ripe peach. She took a sip of the cold milk tea and then licked her lips provocatively, looking very alluring.
Without a word, Doctor Zhao reached out, wrapped his arm around Zhao Meifen's waist, and pulled her into his lap, his other hand grabbing her chest and kneading it freely.
After a symbolic struggle, Zhao Meifen gave in, glaring at Doctor Zhao with a mix of passion and annoyance.
"The door to the office isn't even closed, and you're already being naughty. Are you that impatient?"
"Indeed, I wonder who's the one being impatient and coming to me."
Doctor Zhao lowered his head, capturing Zhao Meifen's tempting lips with his own, kissing her passionately and wildly. His hands roamed freely over her buttocks and chest.
Zhao Meifen responded with equal passion. After a while, she realized something and quickly pushed Doctor Zhao away, pleading:
"Darling, you're on duty tonight, and I have the night shift too. I'll come to you later. I need to check on the patients now, I don't have time to waste."
Doctor Zhao let go, and Zhao Meifen straightened her clothes and hair before sashaying out of the office.
In fact, Zhao Meifen wasn't necessarily a promiscuous woman. She would tease you but not let you have her, which was a kind of fun for women.
However, when Zhao Meifen first tried to tease this new high-achieving doctor, Doctor Zhao pinned her against the wall and "ate" her in the simplest and most direct way. This quickly established their relationship as lovers.
Later, when Zhao Meifen checked Doctor Zhao's file, she found out that he had a master's degree in psychology. She then realized that he had probably seen through her intentions from the start, knowing that even if he forced himself on her, she wouldn't resist.
Doctor Zhao made himself another cup of milk tea, sat back at his desk, and took out his phone, opening a novel reading app.
Being a doctor, sometimes he was extremely busy, but when he had free time, he could be bored to death. So, when he was bored, Doctor Zhao would read novels on his phone.
However, recently, either because he had read too many books and his standards had improved, or because the quality of the books had declined, he found fewer and fewer novels that he could truly enjoy, especially fantasy novels, which all followed the same formula. After reading the first chapter, he could guess the ending. So, Doctor Zhao had to spend a lot of time searching for good books.
While browsing the bookshelf, Doctor Zhao found a book with an interesting cover: a skull with a sinister smile, and the title was straightforward: "Horror Web Novel."
He clicked on the book's page and saw that the word count was listed as "inauspicious," and there were no comments in the review section. It seemed to be an unknown novel, perhaps even a "flop," far from the popularity of famous web novel authors.
However, Doctor Zhao still clicked the "Read" option. Suddenly, his phone screen went black. No, very quickly, a few lines of text appeared on the screen, as if written in blood:
"When you read this web novel online, congratulations, you have been selected as an 'Horror Web Novel' world experiencer. You will enter a terrifying novel world. We sincerely hope... you... can return alive.
Horror World: 'Zombie'
World Attribute: Survival Mode
Main Quest: Survive for 7 days in the 'Zombie' world
Quest Reward: 1000 points
...
"What the hell, boring."
Doctor Zhao chuckled, thinking it was a prank someone was playing on him, perhaps a computer-savvy classmate from his time abroad.
However, Doctor Zhao's expression soon turned serious. He was still sitting in a chair, but it was no longer the office chair. It had become a pear wood armchair, and his legs were not resting on the desk but on a coffin.
