Chapter 2

Name: Shen Changqing

Affiliation: Dachen Town Demon Suppression Bureau

Identity: Apprentice Demon Hunter

Martial Arts: Thirteen Protectors' Horizontal Training (Third Level, cannot be upgraded)

Kills: 0

By consuming all the kill points, the Thirteen Protectors' Horizontal Training was directly upgraded from uninitiated to the third level.

Standing in place, he closed his eyes and remained still for a long time.

After a while.

Shen Changqing suddenly opened his eyes, took a lunge forward, and punched into the air.

Boom—

The punch struck out, and there was a faint sound of breaking air.

In an instant.

The sound dissipated, and Shen Changqing retracted his fist and turned around.

"The Thirteen Protectors' Horizontal Training has a total of nine levels. Each level of successful cultivation significantly enhances physical strength and slightly improves power and speed."

"With my current third-level Thirteen Protectors' Horizontal Training, apart from the veteran demon hunters, no one among the demon hunters who entered the Demon Suppression Bureau in the same batch can compare to me."

"Moreover—"

"Even those more experienced apprentice demon hunters are unlikely to be much stronger than me, and might even be weaker."

In the Demon Suppression Bureau, the Demon Guardian holds the highest position, followed by the demon hunters.

Among all the demon hunters, the apprentice demon hunters have the lowest status.

Anyone who enters the Demon Suppression Bureau, unless they are sufficiently powerful, will start as an apprentice demon hunter.

In simple terms.

Apprentice demon hunters are the reserve force for official demon hunters, with the main goal of enhancing their strength as much as possible, so they can have the necessary foundation to complete the tasks of the Demon Suppression Bureau and become true demon hunters.

Therefore.

There are basically no experts among the apprentice demon hunters.

True experts are at least official demon hunters.

Of course.

Apprentice demon hunters are not just confined to training in the Demon Suppression Bureau. They still complete some simple tasks on a regular basis to qualify for the benefits provided by the Demon Suppression Bureau.

Furthermore.

It took the predecessor and Shen Changqing himself a month to memorize the Thirteen Protectors' Horizontal Training.

Although he thought the predecessor was a bit dull, even a smarter person would need ten to fifteen days to fully memorize a martial art.

Entering the library once every five days, one can stay for two hours.

A martial art has a lot of content, and it is reasonable for a smart person to spend four to six hours to memorize it.

However, it must be clear.

Memorizing is one thing, and successfully cultivating is another.

According to Shen Changqing's understanding.

Among those who entered the Demon Suppression Bureau in the same batch, even the most talented ones have only barely reached the initiation level.

From this, it can be seen.

The third-level Thirteen Protectors' Horizontal Training, while not allowing him to dominate all apprentice demon hunters, can still be considered an expert among all apprentice demon hunters.

But seeing the kill points on the panel reset to zero, Shen Changqing shook his head.

"Unfortunately, the kill points are all used up. I need to find a way to collect more kill points."

Collecting kill points.

Is the key to quickly enhancing one's strength.

The Demon Suppression Bureau was established by the Great Qin, and this world is not as peaceful as the previous one, filled with various dangers.

Every year, countless people die in the Demon Suppression Bureau.

Shen Changqing does not want to be on the death list one day.

Moreover.

Every demon hunter must carry out tasks, with no exceptions.

Even apprentice demon hunters only have a one-year grace period.

After a year, the Demon Suppression Bureau will force apprentice demon hunters to carry out tasks related to demons and monsters.

If successful, they can shed their apprentice status and become true demon hunters.

If they fail.

The consequences are clear.

"Once you enter the Demon Suppression Bureau, there is no turning back. You either keep moving forward or fall on the endless path of tasks—"

No one wants to die, and Shen Changqing does not want to die either.

To survive in the Demon Suppression Bureau, one must continuously enhance their strength.

Therefore.

He has no choice.

Knock, knock!

The courtyard gate was knocked on.

Shen Changqing opened the gate and saw a tall, square-faced middle-aged man standing in front of him.

"Greetings, Manager Liu!"

The man's name is Liu Chang, an official demon hunter and the manager of the Yellow Department Demon Hunter Academy.

The Yellow Department Demon Hunter Academy.

Is where all demon hunters reside.

It includes both apprentice and official demon hunters.

The Demon Suppression Bureau has four demon hunter academies, named Heaven, Earth, Mystery, and Yellow, with Yellow being one of them.

Shen Changqing is quite familiar with Liu Chang.

Or rather, all demon hunters are familiar with Liu Chang, as he is the person they interact with the most.

Seeing Shen Changqing come out, Liu Chang's eyes flickered.

In an instant.

Shen Changqing felt as if he was seen through.

"It seems you have a good talent for martial arts!"

"Manager Liu is too kind. I have only made some progress." Shen Changqing replied humbly.

The improvement in the Thirteen Protectors' Horizontal Training is bound to be noticed by others.

As an official demon hunter, Liu Chang is naturally not weak and can see the signs, but as long as they do not engage in combat, he cannot fully discern Shen Changqing's true strength.

Sure enough.

Liu Chang's cold face softened a bit.

"Being able to reach the initiation level in about a month, your talent is stronger than many demon hunters. With some more time, you might have a chance to become an official demon hunter."

"Martial arts require a balance of tension and relaxation to reach the peak."

After a brief praise.

In Liu Chang's eyes, Shen Changqing has the potential to become a true demon hunter, as few can reach the initiation level in a month.

As long as they do not falter, they will eventually become true demon hunters, and not just ordinary ones.

Just as Shen Changqing thought.

Without actual combat, Liu Chang cannot fully discern his true strength just by observation.

After speaking.

Liu Chang paused, and his face returned to its usual coldness.

"The task deadline has arrived, and you should complete a new task."

"What is the task this time?"

"The tasks for apprentice demon hunters are not many. Currently, you need to patrol the Demon Suppression Prison, just like last time." Liu Chang said calmly.

Patrol the Demon Suppression Prison!

Shen Changqing's expression changed slightly, but he was secretly delighted.

The last task was to patrol the Demon Suppression Prison, which was when the panel was officially activated.

He had been thinking about how to find an opportunity to enter the Demon Suppression Prison without arousing suspicion.

But unexpectedly.

The opportunity to enter the Demon Suppression Prison came to him.

Seeing Shen Changqing's change in expression, Liu Chang mistakenly thought he was afraid and explained.

"The Demon Suppression Prison is not as dangerous as you think. The demons and monsters inside are mostly sealed with powerful seals. As long as you do not enter areas you should not, there will be no problems."

"The areas you should not enter are already recorded in the Demon Suppression Prison handbook."

"Also, remember to ignore any sounds you hear inside the Demon Suppression Prison."

In the past, he would not have explained further.

However, Shen Changqing's ability to reach the initiation level in about a month shows he is a promising talent.

Explaining now is a favor to him.

Who knows, maybe one day, Shen Changqing will grow and bring benefits to him.

Even if Shen Changqing does not grow or forgets him, it does not matter much to him.

Saying a few more words.

Does not cause any loss.

Shen Changqing bowed in gratitude: "Thank you, Manager Liu!"

"Here, this is the Demon Suppression Prison handbook. Take it."

Liu Chang took out a book about a foot long from his sleeve and handed it to Shen Changqing.

"The Demon Suppression Prison handbook records the sealed demons and monsters in each area and their conditions."

"If you notice any abnormalities or anything escaping, do not enter the cells to investigate. Just report it to the person in charge of the Demon Suppression Prison."

"Also, do not deliberately hide any abnormalities."

"If you deliberately hide them and are discovered, you will be considered a collaborator with demons and a traitor to the human race, and you will face certain death."

"Manager Liu, rest assured. I understand this clearly!"

Shen Changqing's expression was solemn as he put away the Demon Suppression Prison handbook.

The Demon Suppression Bureau has strict rules.

Violating any rule can result in severe injuries or even death.

Although his strength has improved, he is not arrogant enough to challenge the rules of the Demon Suppression Bureau.

"You may go."

"Yes!"

Following Liu Chang's instructions, Shen Changqing headed towards the Demon Suppression Prison.

The Demon Suppression Bureau is vast.

It is divided into several areas.

The Demon Hunter Academy, where demon hunters reside, is on the outermost perimeter, while the library is in the second area.

The Demon Suppression Prison.

Is in the third area.

The fourth area is where the Demon Guardian resides.

This layout is because the Demon Suppression Prison is very important. If the sealed demons and monsters escape, it would be a devastating blow to ordinary people.

With demon hunters in front and the Demon Guardian at the back, it prevents demons and monsters from escaping.

If anything escapes from the Demon Suppression Prison, an alarm will be instantly triggered.

At that time.

The Demon Suppression Bureau can quickly re-seal or eliminate the escaped demons and monsters.

All the demons and monsters imprisoned in the Demon Suppression Prison have been defeated by the strong of the Demon Suppression Bureau.

Therefore.

There is no possibility of them being unable to handle them.

After being reborn, Shen Changqing had visited the Demon Suppression Prison once. Since the tasks for apprentice demon hunters are spaced three days apart, this is his second visit.

With the experience from the first visit.

His second visit to the Demon Suppression Prison is not as smooth as the first, but it is not unfamiliar either.

Soon.

The Demon Suppression Prison appeared in his line of sight.
