"It's already been half an hour! What is Allen doing? Why hasn't he come down yet?"
Agostino raised his head and glanced at the grandfather clock in the hall, his tone revealing unmasked impatience.
Just as he was about to ask the old butler to go upstairs and check, Allen, who had spent five hours in the dungeon, finally appeared at the top of the stairs with Lubert, feigning confusion, "What happened? Why are you, who are usually so calm, acting so out of character?"
"You don't need to know what happened. Sit down. I have something to tell you, and then you can continue pursuing your dream of becoming a Hunter." Agostino said, giving his eldest son a meaningful look.
The eldest son immediately understood and opened the briefcase on the table, taking out a document, "Here! Sign this, every copy."
"Huh? What is this!"
Allen took a quick look and found that these were all related to insurance and property inheritance, and the beneficiary in each case was himself.
"Don't ask so many questions! You just need to know that these things will allow you to live a happy life." The eldest son urged impatiently.
"Sign it. This is the last thing we can do for you."
"Don't be stubborn! Listen to us!"
The two older sisters also joined in, trying to persuade him.
But Allen was unmoved and pushed the documents back, "Sorry, if you don't explain what's going on, I absolutely will not sign these documents. Also, can you tell me what our family's business is? Why are you all so nervous and panicked?"
"Damn it! Don't ask so many questions! The less you know, the safer you are! Understand?" The eldest son stood up and roared.
"Is it related to the Yorke City gang? Is our family involved in the underworld?"
Allen completely ignored the fierce expression on his step-brother's face and continued to ask calmly.
The current situation was clearly a huge crisis, and all family members seemed to be preparing for the worst, even death.
Perhaps realizing that his youngest son was being stubborn again, Agostino sighed helplessly, lit a cigar, took a deep puff, and looked up at the chandelier, "No, our family is not involved in the underworld, but we do have some connections. Specifically, we collect various rare and valuable items for the auction held in Yorke City from September to October each year. But this year..."
"This year you messed up, right?"
Allen instantly understood why everyone looked so grim, as if the end of the world was about to come.
Doing business with the underworld is completely different from doing business with legitimate merchants.
The latter might just demand compensation, but the former would take your life, and even the lives of your entire family.
"You're right. I messed up, or rather, I was set up. The valuable items we collected were all swapped for worthless fakes during transportation. According to the rules of the underworld, everyone involved in this matter must pay a price, including me and your brothers and sisters. But you are different. You have never been involved in the family business, so you should be able to survive. I have explained everything. Now sign these documents; they will ensure you inherit a large fortune after we are gone."
As he spoke, Agostino's face was filled with regret and remorse, and a bit of longing for life.
As a father, he had not protected his children but instead dragged four of them into hell, a pain that was constantly gnawing at his heart.
The other four adult children could not help but shed tears, and a sad atmosphere instantly enveloped the living room.
"Is this the family and relatives you cherish?"
"Even in the face of great danger, they still consider the youngest child, trying to keep him as far away from danger as possible..."
Feeling the genuine and intense emotions between family members, Allen began to understand why the original owner of his body cherished his relationship with his family so much and was so determined to become a Hunter.
Taking advantage of everyone's immersion in their pain, he stood up and walked out the door alone. Just as he was about to step over the threshold, he suddenly stopped.
"One last question, which underworld family is trying to kill you? One of the Ten Elders?"
"No, not one of the Ten Elders. We are not qualified to deal with such powerful figures. The family we work with is the Caberi family in Yorke City. Their leader, Marcus Caberi, has probably already received the news and will send assassins within a day or two. After all, I failed to bring back valuable items, which has damaged their reputation. According to the rules of the underworld, only death can wash away this shame." Agostino answered instinctively.
But he soon realized he had said too much and looked out the door, only to find his youngest son had vanished.
"Where is Allen? Where did Allen go?"
"He... he seems to have driven away! And... and he didn't sign the documents." The eldest son's voice trembled.
"He must be..."
"You're right! Young Master Allen has driven towards Yorke City!"
With the old butler's slightly hoarse voice, the living room fell into a brief silence.
"No! I can't let him go to his death!"
Agostino, driven by his concern for his son, rushed out and got into another car, determined to intercept Allen before it was too late.
Although he knew his youngest son had been training rigorously to pass the Hunter Exam and had even spent a lot of money to learn combat skills from martial artists, that was not enough to defeat a powerful underworld family.
Unfortunately, even as he entered Yorke City, he could not see the taillights of the black car in front.
...
Meanwhile, at the entrance of a hotel owned by the Caberi family, Allen smiled and asked the receptionist, "Could you please take me to see Marcus Caberi?"
"Who?"
The receptionist blinked in confusion.
"Oh! Never mind, it seems you don't know."
Allen quickly changed his tone and turned to leave, hoping to try his luck with someone else.
But before he could take two steps, four burly men in black suits surrounded him. One of them sneered and threatened, "Kid! You better tell us who sent you, or you're in for a rough time."
"Rough time? I don't think so. Also, you should know where Marcus Caberi is, right?"
As he spoke, Allen's hands suddenly released a mysterious Nen ability, and the temperature around him dropped sharply. In just a few seconds, the knees of the four suited thugs were covered in white frost, accompanied by a large amount of white vapor.
There was no doubt that this was the initial Nen ability he had developed over the past five hours.
Although it was not very strong, it was enough to deal with ordinary people who lacked Nen abilities.
