Chapter 55

4 min read954 words

No one noticed that the magicians of the Otowa and Kuntachi families were wandering around the military camp as if it were their own living room. Not only did Otowa use the <Piercing Vision> skill to avoid the guards' gaze like a mouse, but he also moved while hiding in the darkness.

It didn't stop there.

"Stop, stop, stop. I'll attack if you move. Squid."

"Apple."

Otowa successfully figured out the secret password—the code—that the guards exchanged when they met during patrols.

After that, it was easy.

"Who's there! Squid!"

"Apple."

"Good work."

"Yes, good work."

After figuring out the password, Otowa no longer hid and instead walked around the camp openly, disguised as a patrolling guard. This allowed him to quickly reach the command tent without needing to hide or avoid anyone.

The problem came next.

"Your Highness, it seems difficult to approach the command tent."

Kassim whispered to Otowa.

"Looks that way."

The command tent was situated in a large open space, guarded by heavily armed knights with keen eyes. It was clear that the security would be extremely tight, as high-ranking officers, including the commander, were likely inside. It was absurd to think that low-ranking guards on patrol could get close.

"What do we do?"

Kassim asked Otowa.

"Hmm. Well, you know."

Otowa thought for a moment and then stared intently at Kassim.

"Kassim."

"Why are you looking at me like that all of a sudden?"

"I'm sorry."

"What do you mean…?"

Kassim was bewildered.

"Huh? There's a suppression army spy here?"

"What?"

"What are you doing? There's a suppression army spy here?"

Otowa looked around at the other magicians.

The magicians, initially stunned by Otowa's words, soon understood and grabbed Kassim.

"No! Why are you doing this? What the hell! You're not letting go? You bastards!"

"I'm sorry."

"Why are you apologizing all of a sudden…?"

At that moment.

Bang!

One of the magicians punched Kassim.

"Ouch!"

Kassim screamed.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The magicians surrounding Kassim mercilessly beat him.

"Ugh…."

In the blink of an eye, Kassim was a mess.

"What's going on here!"

"What is it!"

The commotion drew the attention of the rebel army's knights.

"Sir! We've caught someone suspected of being a spy!"

Otowa saluted the approaching knight.

"A spy? This guy?"

The knight pointed to Kassim, who was lying on the ground groaning.

"He doesn't know the password and doesn't know his own unit. So we arrested him."

"Ah?"

The knight was clearly pleased with the unexpected catch. Capturing an enemy spy during his shift would surely earn him a great reward.

"Very well done."

"No, sir! I just did my duty!"

"You have very high morale. Good. Bring him in. The commander is in the command tent and will want to interrogate the spy."

"Yes, sir!"

Thanks to Kassim's sacrifice, Otowa and his group easily entered the command tent.

'You damn bastard, Otowa!'

Kassim, being dragged along, cursed Otowa in his heart. He never thought Otowa would sacrifice him like this….

* * *

"Ah! Capturing a spy!"

General Aquinas, the commander of the rebel army stationed on the canyon ridge, was very pleased with the unexpected report. If the spy could be interrogated, valuable information about the suppression army might be obtained. If that information helped win the war, it would undoubtedly open up a bright future for General Aquinas.

"Is this the spy?"

General Aquinas pointed to Kassim, who was gagged and tied up.

"Yes, sir."

The knight reported.

"You've done a good job. Tsk tsk."

General Aquinas clicked his tongue at Kassim's appearance. His nose was half-crushed, and his eyes were black and blue. He looked truly terrible, fitting the description of being "well beaten."

"Did these soldiers catch the spy?"

"Yes, sir."

"They have excellent military spirit."

General Aquinas approached Otowa with a satisfied look.

"Are you the squad leader?"

"Sir! Yes, sir!"

"Which unit are you from? I'll speak to your commander and arrange for a reward."

"Sir, General. I belong to…."

Otowa replied.

"The suppression army's special operations unit."

"Hmm?"

General Aquinas tilted his head.

"What? The suppression army's special operations unit?"

"Yes, sir."

"What did you say…."

"Spit!"

Otowa spat at General Aquinas.

"…!"

General Aquinas trembled as if electrocuted and then fell, never to rise again. The <Dishonorable Death Orb> hidden in Otowa's mouth had pierced through General Aquinas's skull like a bullet.

"…!"

"…!"

"…!"

The high-ranking officers in the command tent were filled with shock at the sudden turn of events.

"What… what is this… cough!"

The first knight to speak had his head severed.

It all started from there.

"Ugh!"

"Ah!"

One by one, everyone in the tent fell.

In just two seconds.

Otowa and the magicians sent the commander and high-ranking officers in the tent to the afterlife.

"Ugh!"

"Ah!"

The magicians also ambushed and eliminated the knights guarding the tent entrance, showing their thorough operational skills.

"Sir, we've taken care of everyone."

A magician named Sullivan reported to Otowa.

"Now we need to escape quickly…."

"Why escape?"

"Excuse me?"

"Now that the rebel army is in our hands."

"What do you mean? If we don't escape quickly…."

"Isn't there a spell called 'False Face of the Disguiser'?"

"…!"

"It's not a difficult spell. Any magician from the Kuntachi family can do it."

The <False Face of the Disguiser> spell, as Otowa mentioned, was a simple transformation magic.

[False Face of the Disguiser]

A spell that transforms a part of the user's appearance to resemble a specific target.

It perfectly changes the face, hair, and voice.

However, it does not change the natural body shape, so caution is advised.
