Chapter 90

People, or rather all living beings, are bound to fear death. Unless one has completely lost the will to live, life is extremely precious, and there's no need to repeat that. "The Last Heart" was an item of incomparable value, granting an additional precious life. If "The Last Heart" were to appear at an auction, all the rich and powerful people in the world would rush to it with bloodshot eyes...

'Why did this guy get it?'

Oto was puzzled by Ego's decision to hand over "The Last Heart."

'Well, it could happen.'

But there was nothing particularly strange about it. Originally, "The Last Heart" could be obtained during gameplay with an extremely low probability, and the acquisition path was random. It could pop out of a box opened without a second thought, or a goblin could drop it unexpectedly. There was no telling how it would appear. It was an item for which there was no specific information other than the fact that it could be obtained with an extremely low probability. Even Oto had never obtained it himself and only knew of its existence through screenshots posted by other gamers.

"Why are you giving me such a precious item? It's worth more than a fortune."

"To be honest, how valuable is my life?"

"Excuse me? What do you mean? Isn't life precious to everyone?"

"Of course, my life is precious to me. But I don't think all lives are of equal value."

"Hmm."

It was a somewhat dangerous statement, so Oto didn't particularly agree but listened to Ego's story.

"I, a goblin, have lived in a world of humans, enduring all kinds of contempt and discrimination."

"I understand."

"If I have a wish... it is for a world where all races can live together without unreasonable discrimination. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to create such a world. So, I have been secretly looking for a ruler who can fulfill my wish."

"Oh?"

"But it is too difficult to create the world I desire in the existing nations. The deeply rooted discrimination and culture cannot be changed by my efforts alone. However, Your Majesty is different. You can create such a world."

"Oh!"

Oto realized why Ego, the goblin merchant, had readily offered "The Last Heart," an item of immense value.

For the greater good.

Ego had given "The Last Heart" to Oto to help realize his utopia. In other words, he judged Oto's life to be more valuable than his own. Moreover, as the ruler of a new nation, Oto was the perfect person to actively use Ego's wish.

"Your Majesty, I earnestly request that you fulfill my dream."

"You're giving me such great trust... I will do my best to repay it."

Although he said this, in fact, Ego's wish was not difficult for Oto to achieve.

'This is completely free?'

Oto had "The Book of Harmony," which allowed him to enlighten the people so that they would not have discriminatory attitudes. In fact, in the current Iota Kingdom, there was almost no discrimination based on origin or status. The people shared and aspired to Oto's values, creating a society without conflict.

"I will gratefully accept the gift. I look forward to working with you in the future."

"I trust Your Majesty."

Thus, Oto obtained "The Last Heart," the most valuable item in the world, and concluded his journey in the Havre Plains.

When Oto gained dominance over the Havre Plains, the Margret Kingdom collapsed on its own. With no means to defend against the nomads' invasions and the royal family, including the king, taken as prisoners, the kingdom became ownerless.

Oto decided to take the royal family, including the king, to the Iota Kingdom as hostages. It was not easy to immediately swallow the entire Margret Kingdom, so he planned to gradually absorb and merge it.

As a result:

In exchange for gaining dominance over the Havre Plains and successfully taking control of the Margret Kingdom, Oto's level increased by a whopping 10 levels at once.
