Chapter 3

Lin Xinghai's arm trembled, but it was not out of fear or nervousness; it was out of excitement.

He, too, now had a system.

At this moment, a semi-transparent holographic screen appeared before him, displaying an option to absorb the blood qi power.

Did he need to think about it?

He immediately chose "Yes"!

In the next moment, Lin Xinghai felt an unusual sensation in his arm, as if some kind of energy was flowing through it into his body.

At the same time, he noticed that the wound on the back of the zombie's head, which had been bleeding, had dried up.

Not only the wound, but the zombie's skin had also turned paler, as if all the blood had been drained from its body.

"This!" Lin Xinghai was startled. He pinched the flesh around the wound, but not a single drop of blood came out.

"Could this blood qi power be the fresh blood inside the zombie?" he speculated, while casually observing his surroundings.

Fortunately, no one was paying attention to him. After all, the zombie's wound had been bleeding for some time, so it was normal for it to stop now.

Moreover, the zombie's skin was already pale, so a few more shades of paleness would not be noticeable unless someone looked closely.

"Beep! Congratulations, host, you have absorbed 1 point of blood qi power. The attribute panel function has been activated, and the main quest has been unlocked."

As the system prompt sounded, the dialogue box in front of Lin Xinghai turned into an attribute panel.

Host: Lin Xinghai

Constitution: 7 points

Strength: 7 points

Speed: 9 points

Blood Qi Power: 1 point

Gene Optimization: 9%

"Am I a speed-type?" Lin Xinghai muttered, looking at his attribute panel.

However, with no one to compare himself to, he couldn't tell if his base attributes were good or bad.

After glancing at the attribute panel, he looked at the quest bar below.

Main Quest: Collect 10 points of blood qi power.

Description: Blood qi power is the foundation for enhancing strength; the more, the better.

Reward: Unlock the detection function.

Quest Progress: 1/10.

After reading the quest, Lin Xinghai couldn't help but smile. Normally, completing such a quest would be difficult.

But here, there were zombies everywhere!

Thinking this, he stood up without drawing attention and walked to a nearby zombie corpse.

This time, he experimented and found that the system did not react when he touched other parts of the zombie.

Only when he touched the bleeding wound did the system prompt appear.

"It seems certain that blood qi power, even if not equal to blood, definitely comes from it."

Opening the attribute panel, the quest progress was now 2/10.

Lin Xinghai was immediately motivated and quickly touched five more zombies, bringing the quest progress to 7/10.

He only needed to touch three more zombies to complete the main quest.

However, he didn't know that Roger had been secretly observing him.

The content of this "First Lesson" was not only to give the shelter members a shock but also to test their courage.

For an organization like a mercenary group, which had to fight zombies, courage was the most important test.

Roger had already intended to recruit Lin Xinghai and was carefully observing his courage.

So, when he saw Lin Xinghai queue up to touch the zombies, Roger nodded in approval.

But when Lin Xinghai touched the second zombie, Roger's expression became subtle.

What Roger didn't expect was that this was just the beginning.

Lin Xinghai continued to touch the surrounding zombies one after another. The more zombies he touched, the more interesting Roger's expression became. "Is this guy a necrophiliac?"

When Lin Xinghai touched the seventh zombie, Roger finally couldn't hold back and walked over. "What are you doing?"

Seeing Roger suddenly blocking his path, Lin Xinghai was startled.

However, he had anticipated that his unusual actions might draw attention, so he calmly gave the reason he had prepared.

"I find it strange that these zombies were killed by bullets to the head, but why were their heads cut open afterward?"

Roger's strange expression immediately turned to surprise. It was already impressive to maintain composure during the first touch.

But Lin Xinghai not only noticed the anomaly but also actively sought the answer.

At this moment, Lin Xinghai's importance in Roger's eyes instantly rose to a new level.

"Very good! To survive in the apocalypse, such insight is essential. As for why the zombies' heads are cut open, I can tell you the reason, which is..."

"Don't tell me," Lin Xinghai quickly interrupted. "I want to find the answer myself."

What a joke, if you tell me the answer, how can I have a reason to keep touching the corpses?

Roger paused for a moment, then showed an approving look. "You are even better than I imagined."

Seeing that he had passed this test, Lin Xinghai breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly moved to the next corpse.

Soon, he touched three more zombies. When the quest progress reached 10/10, the system voice sounded again.

"Beep! Congratulations, host, you have completed the main quest. The detection function has been unlocked. Additionally, you have been rewarded with 10 detection attempts."

Lin Xinghai quickly opened the attribute panel and saw that a detection skill had been added after the character attributes.

Detection Skill: Consume blood qi power to detect the attributes of a target. The stronger the target, the more blood qi power is consumed. Note: The first 10 detections do not consume blood qi power.

In addition to the new detection skill, the main quest had also changed.

Main Quest: Kill 100 zombies.

Description: Cheating is only temporary; to obtain blood qi power, you need to rely on your own strength.

Reward: None.

Seeing the quest reward, a black line appeared on Lin Xinghai's forehead. What kind of reward is "None"?

Since there was no reward, why should he bother completing this quest?

However, he realized that he had no choice but to do it because he would definitely encounter zombies.

Moreover, if he didn't complete this quest, the subsequent main quests would not update, which was the most frustrating part.

Feeling depressed, he suddenly noticed that another part of the attribute panel had changed.

Gene Optimization: 9%+

Yes! A "+" sign had been added after 9%.

Lin Xinghai immediately clicked on it.

"Do you want to consume 1 point of blood qi power to increase gene optimization?"

Lin Xinghai's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly chose "Yes"!

In the next instant, a warm current appeared out of nowhere, spreading throughout his body, making him extremely comfortable.

However, he didn't have time to enjoy this feeling and immediately looked at the attribute panel.

Host: Lin Xinghai

Constitution: 8 points

Strength: 7 points

Speed: 10 points

Blood Qi Power: 9 points

Gene Optimization: 10%+

Lin Xinghai's face lit up with joy. His gene optimization had increased by 1%, and his constitution and speed had each increased by 1 point.

"This blood qi power is indeed the foundation for enhancing strength!"

Having found a way to enhance his strength, Lin Xinghai did not hesitate and immediately used the remaining blood qi power to increase his gene optimization.

This time, the warm current was even more intense, as if a fire was burning inside his body. However, he could clearly feel his body strengthening at an alarming rate.

The attribute panel in front of him changed again.

Host: Lin Xinghai

Constitution: 15 points

Strength: 13 points

Speed: 19 points

Blood Qi Power: 0 points

Gene Optimization: 19%+

With his blood qi power depleted, his gene optimization had increased from 9% to 19%, and his attributes had significantly improved.

Looking at the different increases in his attributes, Lin Xinghai's face showed a thoughtful expression.
