Chapter 33

Lin Xinghai opened his eyes, but cold sweat still trickled down his back.

Originally, according to his plan, to avoid drawing too much attention, he would wait a few days after breaking through before telling Roger the news.

This way, combined with his supposed special constitution, it would seem more reasonable.

But he didn't expect that breaking through to become a gene optimizer would cause such a commotion.

During the breakthrough, he wasn't completely unaware of the outside world; he could hear everyone's conversations.

Fortunately, he had a good team leader.

"Be more careful next time," Lin Xinghai reflected to himself.

At the same time, he opened the car door and got out, saying apologetically, "I've caused you all some trouble."

"Haha, don't mention it. It's good that you successfully broke through. How does it feel to be a gene optimizer?" Fang Tianhe smiled.

Only then did Lin Xinghai shift his attention back to himself.

Breaking through to become a gene optimizer didn't significantly enhance his body; each of the three attributes only increased by one point.

However, becoming a gene optimizer did indeed greatly boost his combat power.

The reason for this was the significant enhancement of his bodily senses.

This enhancement of senses included not only vision and hearing but also a strange perception of danger.

For example, if someone pointed a gun at him from a hidden place, Lin Xinghai would immediately feel a sense of danger, even if he didn't know where the person was hiding.

This perception was all-encompassing, especially during combat. When the opponent used a lethal move, he could sense it in advance and react faster.

According to Lin Xinghai's estimation, the zombies' ability to instinctively dodge bullets also relied on this perception.

The perception had many other uses, such as sensing the enemy's approximate strength to avoid harm.

"It's a very strange feeling, as if the whole world has changed," Lin Xinghai said after carefully sensing it.

At this moment, the other mercenaries, seeing Lin Xinghai's successful breakthrough, gathered around.

"Xiaohai, did you awaken any special abilities?" Xu Haishui asked.

The others perked up their ears; this was the most critical question.

As for Fang Tianhe, Shen Han, and Roger, their faces showed anticipation.

Only they knew that Lin Xinghai had a special constitution, which almost guaranteed that he would awaken a special ability, and the ability's rank wouldn't be low.

Hearing the question, Lin Xinghai finally reacted. He quickly opened the system panel and took a look.

Host: Lin Xinghai

Constitution: 25 points

Strength: 21 points

Speed: 30 points

Blood Qi Power: 3 points

Gene Optimization Level: 30%+

Abilities: Extreme Speed (Increase speed by 100% for ten seconds) (Energy: 10/10)

Basic Shooting Skill: Proficiency 70%+

"Yes! I awakened an ability," Lin Xinghai nodded.

"What type of ability?" This time, it was Roger who asked.

"An ability that increases speed," Lin Xinghai said.

However, he noticed that Roger's brows instantly furrowed as he answered.

"What's wrong? Is there a problem?" Lin Xinghai asked.

"There's no problem, but an ability that increases speed, along with those that increase strength and defense, are all basic abilities..." Roger didn't finish his sentence because Lin Xinghai's special constitution was still a secret.

Lin Xinghai's brows also furrowed.

Although he knew he didn't have any special constitution, he had a more powerful system!

During the awakening, he had chosen to consume the maximum 100 points of Blood Qi Power.

While he felt the system was a bit unreliable, it had always been dependable. How could it give him a basic ability after such a significant expenditure?

"How much does your ability increase your speed?" A cold voice asked. It was Shen Han, who was always the calmest in the group.

"It increases my speed by 100%," Lin Xinghai answered without hesitation.

"What! That much?"

"Speed doubles? That's an exaggerated increase!"

"If that's the case, can it still be considered a basic ability?"

The group immediately started discussing.

"How long can it last?" Shen Han asked again, this time with a hint of anticipation in her voice.

"Um! The duration is a bit short, only 10 seconds," Lin Xinghai said.

However, as he spoke, the group let out a collective gasp.

Roger sighed in relief and smiled, "Ten seconds is already quite long. Other basic abilities usually last only three seconds, and the increase is only 30%. Don't be ungrateful."

"Moreover, a basic ability has a characteristic that even rare abilities can't match: it enhances attributes by a percentage."

"This means that the stronger you are, the more powerful the effect of the basic ability will be."

"It won't become obsolete like some abilities with fixed damage as you grow stronger."

In Roger's view, although Lin Xinghai awakened a basic ability, the increase was so exaggerated that it didn't fit the category of a basic ability at all.

Calling it a rare ability wouldn't be an exaggeration.

Moreover, it was a growing rare ability.

After hearing these explanations, Lin Xinghai finally smiled.

As long as it wasn't a useless ability, and with the system, he could use Blood Qi Power to enhance his ability in the future.

Then, Fang Tianhe also spoke, asking Lin Xinghai to demonstrate his ability. After all, talking about it was one thing, but seeing it in action was another.

Only by seeing it firsthand could he determine how useful Lin Xinghai would be in the future.

"Sure!" Lin Xinghai had no objections.

He felt a special energy within his body clearly.

With a thought, this special energy quickly surged through his limbs.

In the next moment, Lin Xinghai felt as light as a feather, especially his legs, which seemed to have boundless strength.

Whoosh!

He darted out, his speed so fast that a faint afterimage appeared.

Lin Xinghai rushed toward the distance, weaving through buildings and the zombie horde.

The zombies lunged at him, but they couldn't even touch the hem of his clothes.

"That's definitely 60 points of speed," Fang Tianhe squinted and quickly assessed.

The other mercenaries were also impressed. In the entire mercenary group, probably only Fang Tianhe and Shen Han could be faster than Lin Xinghai when using his ability.

The practical use of this ability in combat was uncertain, but it was undoubtedly excellent for escaping.

Otherwise, a newly broken-through gene optimizer wouldn't dare to weave through a zombie horde like Lin Xinghai; it would be suicide.

Ten seconds passed quickly, and Lin Xinghai ran back, timing it precisely.

At this moment, he sensed the special energy within his body and found that it had decreased by about one-tenth. It was slowly recovering when he wasn't using the ability.

He opened the system panel and saw that the ability section had changed.

Ability: Extreme Speed (Increase speed by 100% for ten seconds) (Energy: 9/10+)

"Does this '+' sign help me recover the energy within my body?" Lin Xinghai thought and tapped it.

"Beep! Do you want to spend 100 points of Blood Qi Power to recover 1 point of energy?"

Lin Xinghai: "..."

Can't provoke! Can't provoke!

--------

Regarding the protagonist's ability, many people have left comments. Here's a note:

The setting for the Extreme Speed ability is: the fastest ability! (There is also a hidden ability)

Please be patient and keep reading. If he started by instantly defeating everyone, the story would probably get boring after 500,000 words, and people would stop reading.
