Chapter 1: The Battle on a Rainy Night
7 min read1,666 words
Baili is a high school student who often skips school, and he has even fought with street thugs due to their provocations. However, he is a model student.
Because of his good grades, he is the little master when it comes to academic performance.
Most of the time, Baili is very happy, but definitely not now. The overwhelming number of zombies has made him experience fear for the first time. Although he had felt this before, the fear was somewhat alleviated after he smashed a zombie's skull with a baseball bat he picked up from a store. However, after escaping into this building and reaching the rooftop, looking down at the streets filled with countless zombies, his initial excitement cooled down.
"So, what's going on here?"
Baili just wants to go home and do his homework. The scene before him is too intense for a model student who considers himself smart but has some bad habits.
He holds the baseball bat and sits down on the rooftop. Other high school students at most get kidnapped and become hostages, but he, on the other hand, has been kidnapped by the System into a world of a biohazard crisis.
"Should I say, 'I'm not the main character, and I can't rely on luck to survive?' Isn't this kind of trope outdated? Thinking you're not the main character, but you actually are..."
Baili shakily pulls a lollipop from his pocket, peels it, and bites it angrily, muttering to himself.
He glances at his status panel, where the task at the bottom reads: Kill twelve zombies (2/12).
Baili reassures himself that it's not difficult; he had already killed two zombies earlier.
"What the hell, I like excitement, but this is too much! Am I supposed to live a life of blood and violence from now on?"
Despite his complaints, he eventually stands up, carefully observes the distribution of the zombies, and walks down with his baseball bat, determined to pursue an extraordinary path.
Baili is not without skills. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to dominate the streets around his school. His agility and flexible movements, combined with some practical martial arts he learned in his early years, give him an edge.
He ambushes lone zombies, turns and runs when he encounters a group, and uses stones to lure away a few when there are two or three. Each time he acts, he ensures he has a clear escape route.
After all this, the sky darkened, and a beam of light descended, taking Baili away. The light did not attract any attention from the zombies, as if it never existed.
...
Looking at the central stone monument in the white space, Baili internally complains, "You have a strong sense of copyright, but why didn't you change the name?"
Suddenly, a soft but mechanical voice echoes in the space, "This space is the Infinite Plan Final Model, codenamed System. Please place your hand on the sub-body, and you will receive one talent development as an initial benefit."
Baili feels there's nothing to complain about and obediently places his hand on the stone monument.
A current of energy spreads from his hand to his entire body, making him feel lighter and more comfortable. The energy seems to penetrate deeper, entering his brain and nerves, perhaps his mind or soul...
He closes his eyes involuntarily, enjoying the feeling of deep sleep.
When the energy dissipates, he opens his eyes, and his status panel appears.
Name: Baili
Identity: Agent from World X-34
Height: 1.87m
Physical Condition: Superior
Abilities: Sanda, Bajiquan, Judo, Violin, Piano, Ink Painting, Chinese, Math, English, Chemistry...
Items: Zombie Corpses *36 (picked up from the street), Baseball Bat *1
Brain Level: Wise
Talent: Binding Power (The power to seal and bind, requiring mental energy to activate and strengthen)
Infinite Points: 2601 (1500 from main mission reward + 1040 from new agent benefit + 5 * 12 from killing zombies + 1 from miscellaneous items)
Mission Time: 167 hours 31 minutes remaining
"Binding Power, it seems quite good."
After studying his new ability, Baili subconsciously reaches into his pocket, pulls out another lollipop, peels it, and bites it angrily.
As for the mental energy, the consumption result is a feeling of mental fatigue. In the panel's notes, he can sense deeper information, a strange but clear feeling that helps him understand the meaning of mental energy.
He then decides to exchange some items. After some thought, he decides to rely on poison in the early stages and consider a transformation later. So, he immerses his consciousness into the stone monument, filters through a large number of abilities, and eliminates those he can't afford, those that are impractical, and those with significant side effects...
Finally, he chooses a Poison Core, spending 1800 Infinite Points. It can absorb and produce various toxins, requiring fresh blood to activate. It's a small artifact with a side effect of not distinguishing between friend and foe, but it can be a powerful tool in the early stages if used carefully.
Considering his Binding Power talent, he can bind anything, limited only by his mental energy. While it might not be enough against extraordinary beings, it should be fine against ordinary toxins.
For experimental purposes, he uses the remaining 800 points to buy a basic Armed Color Aura.
This can make his body use force more effectively. Using the Armed Color Aura itself is not possible due to his physical condition, but being more effective in using force is sufficient for now, given his foundation.
To his surprise, the exchange contained all the knowledge of the Armed Color Aura, like a seed of power.
After studying for a while, he realizes that knowledge and skills are relatively cheap, while direct enhancements are expensive. He understands that this is due to the urgency of the mission, making quick and dirty enhancements more valuable than deep knowledge. Once he becomes stronger, he can exchange for cheaper items, but the exchange interface's restrictions make this impossible.
Each stage of growth grants corresponding permissions, not as a benefit but to limit exchanges to appropriate levels. For example, if Baili grows to the point where he can develop the Armed Color Aura from a power seed, his permissions will block basic skill exchanges, allowing only complete versions and enhancements.
With the remaining Infinite Point, Baili buys ten boxes of lollipops for 0.5 points and a pile of non-mystical accessories for the other 0.5 points.
Seeing the items appear out of nowhere, Baili believes the System must have the ability to create objects from nothing, otherwise, these mundane items wouldn't be so cheap.
Looking around, he suddenly realizes that this white space is his room. He is stunned, his mouth twitching, and decides to save some Infinite Points to buy a bed. Since the temperature is neither cold nor hot, he decides not to worry about it and leans against the stone monument to sleep.
The fatigue from the slaughter quickly sends him into a deep sleep.
Time always passes quickly. When the mission deadline arrives, a light gate appears before the stone monument. As Baili steps into it, the entire System space suddenly shatters.
The last thing he sees is a massive wooden staff shattering the space and a roar, seemingly from the System.
...
The rainy night is silent yet restless, with the dark environment and the pitter-patter of rain.
Figures leap and dart through the trees.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Shurikens blend into the rain, their black color providing the best camouflage.
A red-haired man with the Uzumaki clan emblem blocks the most lethal shuriken, protecting the child behind him. The running ninjas stop, forming a defensive formation around a red-haired boy.
The night provides the best cover for ninjas and carries the intent of assassins.
Shadows flicker in the surrounding forest.
"The Uzumaki bloodline, Uzumaki Myou, I didn't expect you to personally escort him. It seems your friendship with Konoha is indeed close..."
A calm voice, cold in the rain, breaks the silence.
This is undoubtedly an ambush. The fact that Uzumaki Myou, who blocked the critical shuriken, is here is somewhat surprising to the attackers. The failure of their probing attack is expected.
"Your nerves are overly sensitive. With me here, your goal will not be achieved. So, retreat. Your actions are meaningless." Uzumaki Myou's voice is calm, but he subconsciously tightens his grip on the shuriken, sensing the vast chakra of the enemy. The amount of chakra is meaningless to the Uzumaki clan, known for their vast reserves. However, Uzumaki Myou realizes the enemy's chakra is only slightly inferior to his.
Chakra does not equal strength, but for someone not of the Uzumaki clan to have this level of chakra is not weak.
Moreover, the fact that they did not retreat upon knowing he was present confirms this.
"Regardless, we cannot let the child behind you reach Konoha safely. After all, it's a continuation of friendship."
A figure slowly steps forward, a man with shark-like teeth, carrying a large sword wrapped in bandages.
Seeing him, Uzumaki Myou knows things are complicated, as the man is undoubtedly formidable.
"The leader of the Hidden Mist's assassination squad, one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, the wielder of the Kubikiribōchō, Hoshigaki Kisame! Your presence here represents the Hidden Mist's stance."
Uzumaki Myou states the obvious, but his chakra is already flowing. His clan members also become more alert, as the man is not someone they can underestimate, even the strongest among them, Uzumaki Myou, because their greatest advantage, chakra, is less effective against Hoshigaki Kisame.
"Though it may be redundant, I'll say it once. After all, I'm not overly bloodthirsty. Uzumaki Myou, take the child and your clan members back the way you came."
Hoshigaki Kisame's face is pale, looking ghostly in the rain.
"The Konoha ninjas are probably dead."
Uzumaki Myou says this calmly.
Hoshigaki Kisame only grins, not answering.
But this is the best answer.
