Chapter 8 of 60

Chapter 8

2 min read620 words

The next day.

I had come to the market with a 'product' from Japan.

Since it was early in the morning, there weren't many people around.

"Alright. Let's get ready to set up the shop."

Of course, it's just a stall, so I just laid out a tarp on the ground and placed the products on top of it.

The space I was given was about six tatami mats in size.

It's about twice as large as the flea market stalls in Tokyo.

I took the products out of my backpack and arranged several boxes of different sizes on the sheet.

"Alright. Everything's set up."

Just as I finished preparing,

"Ah, it's Shiro-niichan!"

Aina-chan came running over with a quick pace.

"Good morning, Shiro-niichan."

"Good morning, Aina-chan. Selling flowers again today?"

"Yeah. I got up early to pick them."

She showed me a basket full of flowers.

I imagine it was quite a task to pick so many flowers.

She must have woken up very early.

"Wow. They're all beautiful flowers. I'm sure you'll sell a lot."

"Yeah! Aina will sell a lot and make her mom's life easier!"

Aina-chan pumped herself up with determination.

Today, Aina-chan is showing me a lot of different expressions.

Maybe we've become friends.

That's kind of nice.

"Okay, Shiro-niichan, see you later!"

"Yeah. See you later."

Aina-chan waved at me and then,

"Would you like some flowers?"

She started calling out to passersby.

I hope she sells a lot.

If a cute girl like Aina was selling flowers on the streets of Japan, they would probably sell out in no time.

"Flowers... Oh, sorry. ...Um, would you like some flowers?"

Aina-chan walked around calling out to people.

Before I knew it, she was out of sight.

Even though she's still so young, Aina is working hard for her mom. I really think she's amazing.

Alright. I'll work hard too.

The number of people passing by gradually increased.

I could see a few adventurers here and there.

"Hey, kid, what kind of shop is this?"

Suddenly, a young man who looked like a typical adventurer called out to me.

He picked up one of the boxes I had arranged on the stall and examined it closely.

I must be lucky to have a customer before I even start calling out to people.

"This is... a box made of paper? Is it some kind of craft item?"

My products must have been quite unusual.

The young man asked me.

"Yeah, that's right."

I picked up one of the boxes and took out a short, thin stick from inside.

"This is called a match. It's a stick that can be used to start a fire, and it's inside the box."

One of the products I brought from Japan was the match I was holding.

According to what Aina told me, in this world, people usually strike flint stones to start a fire, which is quite a hassle.

There are also fire-starting tools that use magic stones, but they are very expensive and out of reach for ordinary households or novice adventurers.

After hearing this, I decided to bring matches, which are useful for starting fires, as a product.

"Huh? 'Match'? I've never heard of it. How does this thin stick start a fire?"

"Watch this. If you rub the tip of this stick on the rough part of the box—"

I rubbed the match stick on the side of the box, and it instantly caught fire.

"See? It's that easy to start a fire."

When I demonstrated the 'match,' the young adventurer was,

"W, w, w, what is that!?"

He was incredibly surprised.
