Chapter 36

One evening as winter drew near, while having tea in the hall with Nadia, I noticed Ralph staring at me, looking fidgety.

"What's wrong, Ralph?"

"…Well, actually, there's something I'd like to ask of you, Miss Lissette."

It's rare for Ralph to ask me for anything. Since I've been in his care, I replied, "If there's anything I can do, I'll do it."

Ralph's eyes sparkled, and his cheeks turned a light shade of red, looking delighted.

"Actually, I'd like you to make the continuation of this."

He said this as he pulled out a single sock made of yarn, which I recognized immediately.

Upon closer inspection, it was the one I had been knitting in the forest cabin when I fled from Ralph.

I was surprised to find it still there, as I had lost consciousness and was taken away.

"After that, I made sure to collect it and keep it carefully. I was going to ask you after you forgave what happened that day."

"Oh, I see."

"Plus, the color is the same as my eyes, so I thought maybe you made it for me."

"…Well, that…"

At the time, I thought I was going to die, so I never intended to give it to anyone. However, it's true that I subconsciously chose Ralph's color.

When he pointed this out, I felt a bit embarrassed.

Still, even though he can afford any luxury, the fact that he kept the single sock I knitted is so like him that I couldn't help but smile.

"I should have consulted you, and I'm not angry."

"Then, is it okay…!?"

Just as I was about to nod, Nadia, who was sitting next to me, hugged my arm tightly and glared at Ralph.

"Brother, this color is also the same as my eyes! You might have made it for me!"

"Ha, you must be mistaken."

"That's what I was going to say."

"O-Okay, I understand. I'll make it for both of you!"

Seeing them about to start an argument, I quickly said, and Ralph and Nadia said in unison, "Thank you!" with bright smiles. Their beautiful faces beamed, and I was momentarily blinded.

Then Nadia called my name, "Miss Lissette," and looked up at me with her eyes.

"Um, would it be too much to ask…?"

"Of course not."

"Since it would be uncomfortable to match with my brother, I'd like you to make one for yourself too."

"I'd prefer to match with you, Miss Lissette, not my sister."

"O-Okay! Let's make them match for all three of us!"

Trying to calm them down again, I suggested, and Ralph and Nadia both looked delighted.

A month later, I nodded in satisfaction at the three completed socks. I thought they turned out well.

I called the two to the hall and handed them over. Ralph and Nadia received the socks with great appreciation, looking at them as if they were treasures.

"Miss Lissette, thank you so much! I'll wear them until I die, no, even after I die, I'll have them buried with me."

"Yes, every day, regardless of the season."

"Actually, just for this winter, please."

Seeing them put them on immediately and act like children, I couldn't help but smile happily.

"But, since you went to the trouble of making them…"

"In return, could you make them again next year?"

"Really!?"

"Yes, of course."

I felt warm and happy, thinking about the future as if it were a given.

"Miss Lissette, thank you so much!"

"I love you!"

"Hehe."

I wondered if making gloves and giving them to Ralph and Nadia would make them happy.

Thinking about this, I smiled at my beloved two and said, "Thank you both always."

Thank you always.
