"……"

Someone is following me as I hurry along the path to the inn.

Well, I don't know who they are, but I wonder what they want.

Still, this is a sloppy tail.

They're probably not a professional thief.

Even so, I don't feel good about it. They might be planning to attack me when the streets get less crowded, which is rather unsettling.

I also need to prepare for the quest. What should I do?

Alright... there's no choice, I'll run.

I boost my agility with 'Body Enhancement' and take off at full speed.

I know this East Street well. I have all the alleys and intersections memorized.

After running for a while, the presence behind me had vanished.

(They gave up?)

I thought, but that was too optimistic.

The person who had been following me decided to wait for me boldly in front of the inn.

"Are you Yuke?"

"No?"

"Don't lie!"

I didn't think I could bluff, and sure enough, it didn't work.

"If you were sure it was me, you wouldn't have asked."

Sighing, I replied, and the figure glared at me.

He's a bit older than me, a slightly round man. He's dressed in fine clothes.

Probably a merchant from somewhere?

"So? Do you have something to say to me?"

"Leave that party."

"Huh?"

My head is full of questions.

They're telling me to leave a party I've only been in for three days.

And it's from a complete stranger.

"That's not possible. I'm the leader of 'Clover' after all."

"Ha? The leader? You?"

"Yes."

"......Don't joke with me!"

The man suddenly became agitated and drew his sword.

People around us let out gasps, and attention focused on us.

In the adventure city of Finis, many people carry weapons due to the nature of the place, but drawing a weapon in the city is strictly forbidden.

"I've asked many, many times to join the party! It's dangerous, right? A party full of women! I offered to protect them, to be kind to them...!"

"Pushing kindness is not good."

Now, this man is saying this, but what kind of relationship does he have with them?

I agree that those girls might be a bit dangerous, but I don't think he's saying this out of pure kindness.

My guess is that he's dreaming of something sinister with a group of naive, inexperienced girls.

Hmm.

I'll check with the three of them later about this guy... for now, I'll put this man on hold.

I should hurry to meet up with them.

"Don't worry, I'm with you now. So, can we end this conversation?"

"No way! I said leave!"

"I just said I can't do that, didn't I?"

He's not listening.

"I saw them first! Back off!"

"Whether you saw them first or not doesn't matter. Even if I leave, it doesn't mean you can join."

"Shut up! If you don't want to get hurt, say you'll leave! Get down on your knees!"

The man, sword in hand, shouted excitedly.

He looks either drunk or high on some illegal magic drug.

If he's sober, he needs to be taken to a church. His mind is clearly polluted by something bad.

"I understand your point, but the answer is no."

"An inexperienced brat like you! I'll hurt you – ...Ah!"

The moment he took a step, he slipped and fell dramatically on the cobblestones.

It was a good call to cast 'Trip' at his feet the moment he drew his sword.

I waved my fingers lightly at the groaning man and cast the 'Sleeping Mist' spell. It's a very localized spell, so the onlookers probably won't notice.

"Really, a troublesome drunk."

I muttered this loud enough for the onlookers to hear and headed to the inn.

They should only see a drunk man fall and then fall asleep.

Using magic in the city is not a good thing, just like using weapons.

I changed into my adventurer's gear in my room and left through the back door.

If I went out the front, I might run into that man again, and it would take too long to deal with him, making it hard to meet up with the others on time.

I cast 'Body Enhancement' on myself and ran through the city.

Alright, I should make it in time.

After a while, as the adventurer's guild came into view, I spotted the three of them walking towards the guild.

"Phew, made it just in time."

"Right on time, Yuke."

Marina gave a thumbs up and smiled cheerfully.

"Alright, let's head to the carriage stop."

"...Yuke, did something happen?"

I froze.

Why is Rain so sharp at times like this, even though she usually seems absent-minded?

"Let's talk about it while we move."

"Understood. Let's move quickly."

Silk quickened her pace.

Her quick judgment in such situations is one of her virtues. She's much more suited to be a leader than I am.

We bypassed the adventurer's guild and headed to the carriage stop.

That guy seems pretty persistent... I don't think he'll give up.

I'll hear the details from the three of them during the adventure and decide on a course of action.

If it comes to it, I might need to take strong defensive measures against someone who draws a weapon in the city.

If that happens, I'll take on some dirt for the sake of these girls.

That's my role as a leader and supporter.

"Yuke? Your face looks scary. Don't worry, we'll solve it together. It's a party, right? Come on, smile."

"Ah, right. I'll count on you."

I returned a wry smile to Rain, who pinched my cheek, and hurried to the carriage stop.

Thanks to her, we managed to catch the morning carriage just in time.
