Taking a deep breath, we set off for the inn, guided by Silk, who was holding a map.
The town of Dunna seemed to have been well-planned, with most of the streets, including the main thoroughfare, running straight and intersecting at nearly right angles.
Thanks to this, we were able to walk to our destination without getting lost.
"Here we are. The 'Singing Fawn' Inn."
The inn we arrived at was a small, two-story wooden building that resembled a large house. It had a reassuring presence.
"Wow, this is amazing..."
Silk, who had been looking at the inn, showed a face of surprise and delight.
"Amazing?"
"The spirits here are incredibly stable. It feels like a sacred grove in the middle of a forest... How can this be in the middle of a town?"
"That is amazing."
Still, there was no point in just staring, so I approached the door. As I was about to touch it, a gentle breeze blew, and the door opened automatically.
"Welcome. Welcome to the 'Singing Fawn' Inn."
A young woman in an apron bowed slightly to us. She was a bit older than us, with a gentle look in her eyes and her flaxen hair tied up.
"I'm 'Clover,' as introduced by the guild."
"Yes, I was informed. You must be tired from your long journey. Please, this way."
The inside of the inn was cozy, more like a home than an inn.
"It's so relaxing..."
"Yeah."
Rain nodded in agreement with his comment. I felt the same way.
In the living room with a high ceiling, there was a fireplace with a fire burning, and a few sofas were arranged. On the central table, tea was already set out for the number of people.
"Thank you for coming. I am Fina, the owner. I will take care of you during your stay."
"Nice to meet you. I'm Yuke Ferdio, the leader of 'Clover.'"
"Yes, I know. I'm a fan of 'Clover.'"
Fina smiled and handed me what looked like a guestbook.
"Could you please sign your names here?"
"Sure."
We all signed the guestbook as it was passed around.
"There's no need to pay for your stay. Just let us know when you need a meal, and we'll prepare it for you."
"Meals are free too?"
"Yes, that's right. Please feel free to eat as much as you like, Marina."
"Really?"
Fina chuckled at Marina's surprise.
"I've seen videos of your meals in 'The Colorless Darkness.' I was impressed by how much you eat."
"Embarrassing!"
Marina covered her face with her hands, blushing. Well, eating that much in the dungeon would naturally draw attention. I regret my stubbornness in serving so much food.
"Also, the inn is reserved exclusively for you, so please feel at ease. I'll do my best to make this place feel like home for you during your stay."
"Exclusive?"
"Yes. I thought Silk might be concerned about being seen, so I arranged it this way."
"Thank you. I was a bit worried about that in a new place."
The service is too thorough!
"Please use any room on the second floor that you like. And after you rest, I'll show you the highlight of our inn."
"Highlight?"
"Didn't Maniera tell you?"
Fina and I tilted our heads in unison. It's a nice inn, but a 'highlight'? What could it be?
As long as we can rest comfortably, I thought the current service was already more than enough.
"I'm curious."
"Me too!"
Marina and Rain looked at each other and stood up. Indeed, when someone puts it that way, it's natural to be curious. I'm curious too.
"Hehe, I'll show you. This way."
Fina led us to the back of the inn. Despite its appearance, it had a surprising depth. Opening the door at the very back, we found a narrow corridor leading further in. Walking in a line down the corridor, we found ourselves outside.
"A garden, maybe?"
"Looks like a garden."
A garden with many potted plants. Notably, there was a spring in the center, about 20 feet in diameter, with steam rising from it.
"Is this... a hot spring?"
Nene, who had been sniffing the air, lit up with excitement.
"Yes, that's right. It has the effects of fatigue recovery and beautifying the skin."
Fina nodded proudly.
"Hey, Nene. What's a hot spring?"
"Well, basically it's like a spring. But instead of water, hot water comes up from underground."
"Do you drink it? Like a magic potion?"
"You soak in it."
Wouldn't you boil if you soaked in hot water from underground? Seeing my skeptical face, Nene laughed.
"Even Yuke doesn't know everything, huh?"
"Yeah, this is my first time..."
"The temperature of the water is probably the same as a shower at home."
"Really?"
Nene and Fina smiled again at my excessive caution.
"What about the rest of you?"
"I've never experienced it."
"Me neither!"
"Neither have I..."
After thinking for a moment, Nene perked up her ears.
"Then, let's all go in together. That way, it won't be scary!"
How was that ('ω')?
A hot spring episode? It might have happened, or it might not have. It's all in your heart.
