Chapter 11

5 min read1,154 words

I have a younger sister who is seven years younger than me.

Recently, her behavior has been strange.

My sister, who was raised by doting parents, used to be a spoiled and cheeky child.

Her thoughts and preferences were heavily influenced by my mother, making her a miniature version of her. I used to look at her with a slightly detached eye, thinking she would grow up to be one of those high-class, snobbish young ladies often found at the academy I attend.

I respect my parents and value them as family.

However, I can't quite agree with their attitude of looking down on people they consider to be beneath them, even though it's those very people who support the Kichijōin company.

As the eldest son, I will eventually inherit this family and the company.

When that time comes, I might end up opposing my father's methods.

Now, about my sister.

My sister, whom I thought was a miniature version of my mother, started to change when she entered elementary school.

In a good way, she became more naive.

Or maybe I should say more innocent?

And she has been doing something secretly.

Her grades are apparently not bad. She used to be spoiled and sometimes refused to go to her extracurricular activities, but now she attends them diligently.

At six years old, she acts with a sense of propriety and occasionally says things that are difficult for a child to understand.

Looking at just that, she seems very talented.

But still, she sometimes does strange things, which I find a bit amusing.

Recently, my hobby has been observing such behavior.

My sister has always been close to me, but lately, she has become even more attached.

When she sees me, she runs over with a happy face, like a puppy.

It's as if she has an invisible tail wagging.

Well, when someone shows their affection so openly, and she is my real sister, she is indeed cute.

When I treat her kindly, she becomes even more attached.

On the sofa, the spot next to me has become her regular seat.

One day, my sister suddenly said she wanted to attend a cram school.

She insisted that she wanted a cram school rather than a private tutor, and her reasons were suspicious.

However, her passion was evident, so when I just slightly recommended it, she thanked me with a beaming smile.

I teased her about her reasons, and as expected, her eyes darted around.

It seems she has a different purpose. Well, it's fine.

When I told her that her lies would be exposed by her eye movements, she froze in a way that was easy to understand.

My sister's reaction is too funny.

My sister, who was frozen with her mouth open, looked like a slightly ridiculous haniwa statue, and I couldn't help but laugh.

Next time, if she transforms into a haniwa, I might throw a candy into her mouth.

Her eyes looking up to the right were indeed true, but my sister has another habit that she doesn't know about.

When she tries to laugh off something, her dimples twitch.

I noticed this habit recently because I've been spending more time with her as she has become more attached.

She probably doesn't realize this habit at all.

But I don't intend to tell her.

Because it's more fun this way.

During the summer trip, my sister, who used to avoid the sea because of my mother's influence, ran into the water first.

Perhaps she wanted to show off her swimming lessons, but she started swimming enthusiastically and soon drowned.

It was a picture-perfect drowning, considering how confident she had been.

What are you doing, sister?

After that, I was worried, so I kept an eye on her. She discovered a technique to ride on my back and swim easily.

She gave me orders from my back, telling me to go there and here, so I sometimes deliberately let the waves hit us.

The sight of my sister spluttering in the waves was ridiculous and amusing.

When I apologized, saying I hadn't noticed, she said it wasn't my fault, it was the waves.

It's true that the more foolish a child is, the cuter they are...

My sister, who hardly ever went into the sea until last year, has been going to the beach non-stop this year, and she is getting more and more tanned.

I told her to reapply sunscreen frequently because she would be scolded by my mother later, but she just nodded and went back into the sea.

As expected, my mother was shocked to see my sister, who had turned black, and my sister was flustered.

I told you so. Really, she's so foolish.

One day, when I returned home, my parents were out, and when I went to the piano room, my sister was playing "The Cat Sat on the Mat" with a very happy look on her face.

She was even singing strange lyrics and swaying to the music.

But at dinner, when my mother asked what she had been doing, she calmly lied, saying, "I was practicing the piano. It's for the recital."

Liar! You were playing "The Cat Sat on the Mat"!

When did the recital piece change?

What does my sister do when she is alone? It's very suspicious.

On Valentine's Day, she was very interested in checking the chocolates I received.

She asked to see a group photo, but I absolutely refused.

She was grinning at me, which was a bit creepy.

She gave me homemade chocolate, but I hesitated to eat it because the final exams were coming up.

She insisted it was fine because she had help from the maid, so I decided to eat it.

...It had no taste.

What is tasteless chocolate?

My sister was waiting for my reaction with a confident smile. I just said, "It's delicious, thank you."

Will it be homemade next year too...?

Since there will be internal exams next year, I need to come up with a way to avoid it.

The most bizarre thing is this.

One night, when I woke up to get water, I heard a strange voice coming from my sister's room, which was slightly open.

Curious, I peeked through the gap and saw my sister sitting on the floor between the bed and the closet in a room lit only by the bed light, facing away from me, and laughing in a creepy way.

...I thought she was a monster.

My sister, unaware of my presence, was muttering and laughing.

It was scary, so I quietly closed the door and returned to my room.

Is my sister possessed by something strange?

I will keep an eye on her for a while.

And I have decided to absolutely avoid approaching her room at night.

There are many other things, but watching my sister's strange behavior is, indeed, very amusing.
