Chapter 54

"Well then, while Gran is away, I'll give it a try myself."

Although I've been forced to work with Gran for days on end and am thoroughly tired of it, there was actually one thing I wanted to try.

It was an idea that came to me when I saw the hard fang sword Gran made.

The hard fang sword is a straight sword made from the tusks of a giant boar. When combined with the destructive power of the boar's charge, even a human can be easily pierced. The sword can be further hardened by infusing it with magic, but even without magic, it is an incredibly hard material. Honestly, I don't quite understand how it works.

However, it is clear that the special effect of "hardening" is achieved through the material of the giant boar's tusk and the catalyst of the Valkyrie's horn. If that's the case, could this effect be applied to other materials?

After Gran left to build a structure, I went to the furnace alone to test this idea. I had the materials in my hands.

My idea was very simple: I wanted to see if I could make the bricks I create even harder.

I arranged the materials in front of the furnace:

- Heat-resistant bricks I made with magic

- Clay I made with magic

- Giant boar's tusk

- Valkyrie's horn

- Magic recovery potion

First, I crushed the heat-resistant bricks with a hammer, a technique I learned from my previous life. To make heat-resistant bricks from clay, you need to crush heat-resistant bricks and mix them with clay. It's difficult to make heat-resistant bricks from ordinary clay, but it becomes easier if you mix in heat-resistant bricks.

I followed this method, mixing the finely crushed bricks into the clay and then firing them in the furnace to make my own bricks.

However, I didn't actually want to make bricks by firing them. To realize my idea, I mixed in other materials.

I mixed the finely crushed tusk and horn into the clay and used the liquid magic recovery potion to mix everything together. I divided the materials into about ten different ratios and kneaded them. Then, I filled the molds with the clay and fired them in the furnace.

I repeated this process many times. Most of the bricks that came out were failures, crumbling to pieces when touched. I was not yet familiar with brick-making. However, as I became more accustomed to the process, I adjusted the ratios and continued firing the clay. Finally, after making countless bricks, I achieved my goal.

"Rock solid."

The bricks I made turned out to be incredibly hard. The color was different from the reddish-brown bricks I made with magic before, being more of a milky white with black patterns. The surface was smoother than any brick I had ever seen, giving it a marble-like appearance.

I decided to call these new bricks "hardened bricks." I tested them by hitting them with the hammer I had been using. *Clank.* The sound of the impact between the brick and the hammer was clear. If it were a regular brick, it would have shattered. However, the hardened brick showed no signs of damage, not even a scratch.

"Amazing..."

I never expected that using the tusk and horn as materials and catalysts would result in such a product. Even with the technology from my previous life, I doubt such bricks could be made. I felt an incredible sense of fulfillment, having developed something extraordinary. I could now understand why Gran gets so engrossed in making things.

However, my work was not done yet. Developing the hardened brick was just the first step. What I really wanted to do was to create hardened bricks with magic.

Magic is an incredible thing. What's most amazing about it is that it completely ignores the scientific knowledge I know. Not only can it create bricks from soil, but it can also make glass and white porcelain from the same materials. However, it cannot create metals, which are harder than soil, stone, or rock. But what about the hardened brick? Could I use my magic to create a brick as hard as metal, something I had been thinking about all along?

However, no matter how hard I tried to imagine a harder brick, I couldn't create anything better with magic. I suspect that my knowledge and common sense were getting in the way, telling me that such a thing couldn't exist. That's why I wanted to actually create it—a brick as hard as metal in this world.

I held the hardened brick in both hands and infused it with magic from my body. What I was about to do was the same as what I had done before: I would envelop the actual hardened brick with refined magic and permeate it with the intention of not missing a single microstructure. After spending time and infusing it with magic to my satisfaction, I cast the "Memory Storage" spell.

"Hardened Brick Generation"

With the hardened brick memorized, I cast "Hardened Brick Generation." The experiment was a success. Instead of the reddish-brown bricks created by the "Brick Generation" spell, a marble-like, incredibly hard brick appeared before me as the magic activated.
