Chapter 32

5 min read1,215 words

Eliza and Strass explained the basics and knowledge of magic that I would teach in the elementary department, and I was finally able to decide on the course content.

Nervously, I stood in front of the reserved classroom. It was only five minutes before the class, but I thought it would be good to prepare.

With that in mind, I opened the door.

There, I saw Shenli sitting in the front row.

"Ah, Ms. Aoi! Good morning!"

"Good morning, Shenli."

While responding, I walked to the podium and looked around the classroom.

In the classroom, there were only the three girls and a quiet boy. The three girls were looking at me with sparkling eyes.

The attendance list on the podium had only six names. It seemed that my class as a new teacher was not in high demand.

However, six people had come to attend my class.

I raised my head and confirmed everyone's faces.

"Shenli."

"Yes!"

I called out everyone's names.

Then, I saw the last name.

"Hmm? Felter?"

"Ah."

When I read the name and tilted my head, Felter appeared at the door. Blinking in surprise, Felter walked past me confidently and sat in the front row by the window.

"It's not just about physical enhancement, you know?"

"I understand."

In response to my words, Felter snorted. His attitude was bold, but somehow endearing. This must be Felter's true self for his age.

I could feel the tension in my shoulders ease.

I looked around the six students and decided to give a brief greeting.

"I am Aoi Konominato. Since I don't have a specific assignment, I will be teaching general knowledge and concepts of magic that anyone can participate in. As a new teacher, I welcome any questions or comments you have. Let's make this a fruitful class together. Thank you."

After bowing, I received applause from everyone. Blushing slightly, I looked at them.

"Now, please introduce yourselves briefly."

"Y-Yes! I'm Shenli Lu Rosenstiel! I'm from the Mapleleaf Holy Empire! Nice to meet you!"

After clapping for Shenli's enthusiastic greeting, one of the three girls raised her hand to introduce herself.

"I'm Air Hedge Butler! I'm from the Court Highland Federation! Nice to meet you!"

The girl with red hair bowed. She was tall, but what stood out more was the familiarity of her name and eyes.

"Ah, are you related to Court?"

When I confirmed, Air smiled happily.

"I'm his proud little sister!"

"Don't say it yourself, Air."

I nodded with a laugh, then looked at the girl next to Air who had pointed this out.

"I'm Liz Stuart. I came with Air from the Court Highland Federation. Nice to meet you."

The slightly plump girl with blue hair bowed gracefully. Her demeanor made her seem older, but she was probably around the same age.

Then, the third girl spoke.

"I'm Belle Barkley! I also came from the Court Highland Federation! Despite appearances, my specialty is fire magic!"

The blonde girl with a small chest puffed out her chest and introduced herself. She was petite and slender like Eliza but gave an active impression.

Nodding at each of them, I looked at the hunched boy sitting a bit further back. He was a quiet boy with dark green hair that fell to his eyes.

"Ah, yes... I'm Dean Stone... I'm from the Caravan Kingdom. I'm the fourth son of a newly ennobled baron's family, so I'm not very noble-like. Haha..."

He added a joke or something to his greeting and then looked down.

I smiled wryly at Dean, who shrank under everyone's gaze, and then looked at Felter.

With his arms crossed and shoulders shrugged, Felter spoke.

"Felter Kearns. I'm from the Bushmills Empire. If anyone tries to lay a hand on Aoi, come to me first. That's all."

"Eh? What do you mean?"

I asked in surprise.

Felter glared at me with a stern face and then looked away.

"...In my Kearns family, we respect those who defeat us and strive to absorb their power. Whether through apprenticeship or marriage."

"...A special family rule, huh? So, Felter, you're here to apprentice with me...?"

"...Something like that."

Felter answered uncomfortably.

As I looked around the unfamiliar atmosphere, Shenli exclaimed, "Ah," and looked at the door.

Turning around, I saw the door open and people enter.

"Did we make it in time?"

"Ms. Aoi! I came right after the class ended!"

"...Excuse me."

Strass, Eliza, and Speyside appeared.

As I and the students stared in shock, they sat in the empty seats one by one.

"Go ahead and start."

Strass said as if nothing had happened, and Eliza straightened her back and smiled.

"...Why are you all here?"

When I asked, Strass answered with a serious face, and Eliza with a smile.

"Because I was interested."

"Me too!"

After hearing their answers, I looked at Speyside.

"...Even if it's just in name, a senior teacher's class is valuable. I hope it doesn't disappoint."

I felt like I was being insulted.

I sighed and then laughed.

"...Hehe. Well, let's start the class."

As I said this and looked around, I saw Glen's face peeking out the window, and my cheeks twitched.

"Question."

"...Yes, Mr. Strass."

After answering the question, Strass nodded and stood up.

"While channeling mana and chanting to change the shape of the mana, and by uttering the magic name to activate it... I understand that the power of thought can have some influence, but is it really that effective?"

The teachers leaned forward more than the students to listen to this question.

"Chanting is like a track developed to make magic accessible to everyone. Each word has meaning and is a technique to activate magic even if the mental image is insufficient. This is indeed impressive, but it doesn't fully understand the essence of magic. I believe the first premise is understanding science... no, natural and physical phenomena."

After answering, Speyside looked puzzled.

"The varying power of magic can be explained by this. However, as research on chanting progresses, it is a fact that the nature and power of magic change depending on the chanting. Therefore, isn't the way of chanting and the difference in mana manipulation the most important?"

He said what is considered the most correct answer in this magic academy. Nodding in agreement, I demonstrated the magic.

"Fireball."

A small ball of fire appeared in front of me, and everyone was momentarily surprised.

"This is a fire magic performed with an empty mind and just the minimum necessary mana."

After making it disappear, I concentrated on imagining and being aware of the mechanism while channeling mana.

"Fireball."

The fireball that was activated made everyone gasp in surprise.

By gradually increasing the mana while keeping the mechanism of combustion in mind, a huge fireball large enough to engulf a person appeared in front of me.

"There is such a difference with the same magic. In other words, by understanding the mechanism and channeling mana to achieve maximum effect..."

While explaining, I made the fireball disappear and saw everyone's stunned faces.
