When I stepped outside the school, I saw a group of people dressed in a style clearly not seen in the city.
More than twenty people in white robes with hoods were gathered. Over half of them were carrying weapons.
The people around them seemed to be wary of the group and kept their distance.
"Excuse me, are you from the Maple Leaf Holy Empire?"
I gently called out to the person at the front. The man at the head turned to me, his robe swaying.
"Oh, have you finally prepared for the meeting? It took quite a while. I didn't expect to wait so long, even though we were so close."
The man said this with a half-smile, then raised his face. However, because he was quite tall, his gaze passed over my head.
"Hmm?"
He turned his head to look around for a moment, then finally lowered his gaze and saw me.
"Oh, you're here."
With those words, my brain recognized this tall man as an enemy. I glared up at him silently, filled with hostility. The man removed his hood, revealing his face.
He had long, light green hair that stood out. His features were unexpectedly well-defined, but he exuded an unusual aura. He didn't seem to be carrying any prominent weapons, but he couldn't hide the aura of a magician.
"...The black-haired female teacher from the academy..."
The man stared at my head as if trying to burn a hole through it and muttered something. Then, he raised the corners of his mouth.
"...Are you, by any chance, the magician Aoi?"
Before I could answer, the other robed figures standing around us spoke up.
"Is this girl really...?"
"No way."
"We were told she was a witch, so I imagined a terrifying old woman or a seductive, beautiful mature woman..."
Hearing those words, I glared at the man who had spoken the last one.
Do I really have to guide these rude people?
The question crossed my mind, but even if they were rude, they were official envoys of a country. I couldn't just kick them out in anger.
I pushed my internal conflict aside and lifted my head.
"Headmaster Glen is waiting for you. Please, this way."
As I was about to lead them into the school, the man with light green hair called out to me.
"Wait a moment. I'm Crown Windsor! You must be Aoi Konominato, right? Please, show me your magical power! That's why I'm here!"
"...Can't that wait?"
I turned to confirm, but Crown didn't back down. He took a step closer, as if pressing me, and raised one hand in front of his face.
"Look at this. It's a medium I created to manifest my own magic."
Crown's hand was wearing a strange glove. The glove was made of a white, leather-like material, with a wide silver ring on the middle finger and silver patterns running along the back of the hand.
"...It's an item to facilitate the circulation of magic and direct it. The attribute is ice, I see. I think it's well-made."
I gave my opinion, and Crown's eyes widened slightly as he nodded.
"Y-Yes! I didn't expect you to see through it at a glance. If you're researching from the same perspective, I can understand! You must be doing similar research, right? I'll show you my specialty magic. So, please, show me a couple of your spells!"
With that, Crown began to channel his magic without waiting for my response.
As the incantation began, the others around us finally noticed the signs of magic and became restless.
But it was too late for them to take cover or take any precautions. Crown's magic required only a two-line incantation. The content of the incantation seemed to be of an advanced level. It might even be on par with Glen's.
Still, using magic in the middle of the city is extremely dangerous.
I quietly concentrated my magic.
"Freeze, ice cliff."
The moment Crown spoke, an ice mountain began to form between us. The onlookers around us showed expressions of shock as they realized the magic was being cast.
I glanced at them and cast my own spell.
"Frost Pillar."
As I whispered, a huge crack appeared in the growing ice mountain. In the next instant, the ice mass that Crown was trying to create shattered into pieces.
In its place, an ice tower I had created appeared. I had intended to create an ice pillar, but it was so large that it looked like a building.
Crown's magic was completely dispelled, and the onlookers were uniformly stunned. However, Crown himself was different.
"O-Oh...! What is this...!"
His voice trembled, and he wore a mad grin. Frowning at his appearance, I spoke.
"...Now then, everyone. Please follow me quietly this time. I will not allow the use of magic without permission. Next time, I will punish you on my own judgment. Understood?"
I lowered my voice slightly as I said this, and the white-robed figures nodded their heads up and down in small movements. Crown himself also nodded with a meaningful smile.
Behind them, a particularly tall man who had been silent until then spoke up.
"Hmm, this won't be easy."
His words, contrary to their content, sounded oddly cheerful.
