Chapter 2

Leaving my house, I walked from the noble district to the citizen district of the capital city.

The house I lived in was located at the corner of the garden of the townhouse in the capital, which belonged to the Ragnia family, who were the lords of the territory.

If I had been in the territory, it would have been quite troublesome, but I felt relieved to be in the capital.

"Excuse me, I've come to register as an adventurer. Is it okay to do it here?"

"Yes, we accept registrations here as well."

A large building in one corner of the citizen district.

I headed to the Adventurer's Guild, a gathering place for adventurers. This facility is often used in stories for financial planning and meeting characters, making it one of the important facilities.

I knew how to register, so I quickly filled out the registration form and obtained a guild card.

"Are you going to take on a quest?"

"No, I'll just register today. I don't have my equipment yet."

"Is that so? Would you like me to introduce you to a blacksmith?"

"I plan to go to a shop I know, so it's fine."

I gently declined the receptionist's offer.

The blacksmith she would introduce me to is indeed skilled, but from my knowledge of the story, it's a blacksmith I don't intend to use.

"First, I need to find a place to stay..."

I recalled the inns from the game, aiming for one that was cheap and well-equipped.

I arrived at a place called Hiiryu-tei, a combination restaurant and inn.

This inn is one of the few with a shower.

The only downside is that the innkeeper has a scary face, which is why, despite the excellent facilities and food, it has fewer guests than other inns.

"Do you have any available rooms for a long stay?"

"There are rooms available. Which one would you like?"

I chose a room at the end and paid for ten days. It was half of the money I had, but I considered it a necessary expense. With unlimited shower use and two meals a day, it was a good deal compared to other inns.

"Well, I've decided on a place to stay. Next, I need to get equipment, but I don't have enough money..."

I refused the quest because I lacked equipment, but I was short on funds to buy it.

I could use magic to make money, but that would draw attention.

If I stood out, I might get involved with the wrong people, which would defeat the purpose of being free.

"What should I do...?"

I sighed and lay down on the bed, deciding to rest until dinner.

"What's wrong, are you short on money? I thought you had money since you paid for ten days in advance."

At dinner time, I went downstairs to eat and think. The innkeeper asked me, looking surprised when I shared my concerns.

"Finding a place to stay is important. There's no better place than this, so I wanted to secure it first."

"My place is always available, but it's nice to hear that."

The innkeeper blushed at my words, and I shivered at the sight.

"Don't blush, it makes you look even scarier..."

"Mind your own business."

The innkeeper glared at me after I spoke.

"If you have the skills and don't want to stand out, I have a job for you."

"What is it?"

"Recently, there's been a shortage of meat in the market. I was thinking of putting out a request to the guild."

"I see, is it orc meat?"

The innkeeper said any edible monster meat would do. The meat available for consumption is usually orc or boar meat. There are also higher-grade meats from more powerful monsters, but the innkeeper is likely looking for orc or boar meat.

After accepting the personal request from the innkeeper, I left the inn and headed outside the capital city. By the way, the innkeeper's name is the same as in the game: "Ricardo."

"Well, let's use this ability right away."

One of Jin's skills, [Magic Detection], allows him to detect magic.

Using this, I can find the target, edible monsters.

"...I found a herd right away."

I headed to the location detected and found five boars basking in the sun.

First strike is crucial.

I cast a spell at the boars, who hadn't noticed me.

The spell I used was wind, as it can kill instantly without damaging the meat.

"Did I manage to kill them in one shot?"

The boars, with their heads cut off, were dead and bleeding on the ground.

I put them into my [Interdimensional Box] and continued to hunt for more.

"At this rate, I'll complete the request soon."

I continued hunting orcs and boars, testing my abilities without getting too carried away.

Before I knew it, the sun had set, and it was getting dark.

"Damn! Dinner time!"

I rushed back to the capital and headed to the inn, having lost track of time while experimenting.

"You're late. If you were any later, there would be no dinner."

"Phew, that was close. It would have been a waste to pay and not eat..."

I sat at a table in the restaurant and waited for my meal.

A few minutes later, the innkeeper brought me a dish that smelled delicious.

"It looks amazing, but why is no one else here... Oh, it's because of the innkeeper's scary face, right?"

"Shut up and eat!"

The food looked so good that I joked, and the innkeeper yelled at me.

"Phew, it was delicious. I never ate such good food even when I was at home."

"Thank you. So, Jin, how about the request? You have three days, but I'd like to see what you've hunted so far."

"Yeah, I just got back, so I didn't have time to hand it over. I've already hunted the required amount."

"What?"

The innkeeper was shocked by my words.

"...Do you have a 'storage' type skill?"

"Correct. By the way, the items stored in the ability are in a state of time suspension, so they remain fresh."

"Wh-What! You have such a rare skill, yet you're poor..."

"I have my reasons."

I glared at the innkeeper and handed over the meat from the request.

"I have more than the required amount. What do you want to do with it?"

"I have some storage space, so I'll buy it and sell it to my regular customers. I'll buy as much as I can."

"Is that okay? There's a lot, and you said there aren't many guests."

"I do have regular customers. The inn is quiet now because they're away from the capital."

"I see, it makes sense that the inn wouldn't be profitable without guests."

I handed over the meat that would fit in the storage to the innkeeper and got paid. Now I had enough money to buy equipment.

"However, looking closely, each one was killed cleanly..."

"I used wind magic to kill them in one shot. Some were killed before they even knew what hit them, so they might not even realize they're dead."

"One-shot with magic? ...I can understand if it's done by a high-level magic user, but for a new adventurer to do it, what kind of life have you been living?"

"Prying into an adventurer's personal information is forbidden."

I smiled and said this, then went to the shower available to guests to wash off the sweat and dirt before entering my room.

I lay down on the bed and fell asleep immediately due to the fatigue.
