Chapter 8

After that, I decided to leave the guild and take a look around the commercial district.
There are three reasons for me to check out the commercial district: one is to see if there are any new items, and the second is to check the progress.
"Well, it's quite possible that the story has already broken just by me leaving home..."
Jin, the character I play, is a key character in the game. The fact that such a character is already missing from the story before it even begins means that it's more likely that the world won't follow the story of "The Holy Sword Hero and the Seven Warrior Women." However, if it does, it would be a huge help for me. If the game proceeds as usual, I will ultimately die. In my previous life, I died in my 20s, so I want to live longer in this life.
"Hey, isn't that the monk from yesterday!"
While walking around the commercial district, I was called out by the skewer vendor who was setting up his stall on the same street I passed yesterday.
"Monk, have you already completed your quests?"
"Actually, I completed two. So today, I'm just here to buy."
The third reason for coming to the commercial district is to fulfill my promise to this vendor. The skewers I got yesterday were perfect for when I was hungry, so I thought I'd put some in the [Otherworldly Box] where time stops.
"Wow, that's great! How many skewers do you want?"
"Hmm, let's see..."
It's not a problem if I have extra in stock...
"Hey, old man. Are you closing for the day since you're just setting up now?"
"Yeah, it's getting late, so I'll just finish with what I'm cooking now."
"Got it. Then I'll buy all of what you're cooking now. Of course, at the regular price."
I said this and bought ten sets of two skewers for one silver coin each, totaling ten silver coins.
"It's been a while since I sold out. I usually have a few left over for dinner."
"I like them, and it's not that much. By the way, do you even make a profit with two skewers for one silver coin?"
"Hardly, but I do it because I enjoy it. My wife and the people I employ make money from the main business."
By the way, Rob, who runs this stall, is actually the manager of a well-known store in the capital. He's an amazing cook, and the sauce he uses for the skewers is homemade. Originally, he was a court chef, serving the royal family and nobles. Rob met his wife, who was also a chef, just before he turned 20. They often talked about cooking, and their relationship developed into a good one, leading to their marriage within a year. After getting married, they quit their jobs and opened their own restaurant.
"It feels like a hobby."
"Half of it is, but I'm also entrusted with the important job of bringing new customers to the store."
Rob laughed and, looking at Jin's body, said with a smile, "Eat well and grow bigger."
After parting ways with Rob, Jin returned to the inn.
"At least I've achieved my immediate goals."
Registering a partner, completing the money-making quest, and buying the promised skewers. Having finished these immediate tasks, I sat on the bed and thought about what to do next.
"First, I need to raise my rank... At the very least, I need to reach Silver class to improve my standard of living."
Because I registered a partner, my rewards are reduced if I'm below Silver class, making it difficult to have a stable life. So, I want to reach at least Silver class, and if possible, Gold class as soon as possible.
"But in this world, it's hard to know how long it takes to raise my rank..."
From what I've found out, it's relatively easy to go from Wood to Copper. However, to reach Silver class, I need to complete several difficult quests and gain the trust of the guild.
"I think I can build a good relationship with Fiene to gain the trust of the guild, but the key will be the quests... How much my partner registration helps will be crucial."
Normally, I wouldn't get the quests, but if I can maximize the benefits of having a partner, I should be able to reach Silver class in as little as a month if everything goes as planned. I already have equipment equivalent to Silver class, so I don't need to worry about upgrading it, which is a huge relief. Not having to think about equipment and housing for a while is a blessing for an adventurer. As my rank increases, the nature of the work will change, and I'll need to prepare appropriate equipment. However, thanks to Cynthia, I don't have to worry about equipment until I reach Silver class.
"When I have some extra money, I should splurge at Cynthia's shop..."
I am truly grateful to Cynthia.
