Chapter 24 - Choice of Game Opening (Part 1)

Qin Yu nodded: “Of course there is no problem.”

“First, I’ll explain what the opening means. The opening refers to a story after each player enters the game. It is a bit similar to the origin story in a superhero movie, telling the cause and effect of your ability.

Skrulls – have the capability to shapeshift into other sentient humanoid beings right down to the individual’s DNA – very convenient to do quests.

Xandarians – their appearance looks like humans the most, have powerful technology, and are suitable for taking the science and technology path.

Kree – thick skin, very tough and resistant to fights, suitable for the warrior path.

Generally speaking, the initial strength of aliens is much stronger than that of earthlings, but aliens have a very big disadvantage; which is the difficulty in gaining prestige. To be more precise, it is difficult to earn the prestige of Earth, because earthlings have a natural sense of distrust towards aliens; hence any kind of prestige of the aliens on Earth would be reduced by 50%.

However, the core of the Marvel universe is still Earth after all. Most of the stories take place on Earth, so overall it still does more harm than good.”

The second kind of opening: mutant-

You must know it; they are the mutants in the X-Men franchise. Upon choosing this opening, a critical situation will be presented during your opening mission which would require you to activate your mutant powers. To a certain extent, the ability that you obtain is random; so you may get a very powerful superpower – such as Magneto’s magnetism control, or Professor X’s mind control- but it is also possible to obtain less powerful abilities, such as Quill in X-Men 3.”

Qi Jianfei said, “Such randomness? Isn’t it all luck?”

Qin Yu shook his head and said, “You can’t say that. The ability acquisition of this opening can be controlled to a certain extent. The key lies in the way you activate the ability. For example, someone fired a shot at you- If you choose to use mental power to forcibly prevent the bullet from approaching; it may activate Magneto’s ability to control metals or Jean Grey’s telekinesis ability.

If you want to rely on the agility to dodge bullets, then you may activate Quicksilver’s super-speed ability or Nightcrawler’s teleport ability.

If you don’t hide at all and want to rely on your body to resist bullets, then you may activate Colossus’ steel body ability.

If you don’t even resist and are hit directly, then most of what you activate is Wolverine’s healing ability, or it may be the Shadowcat’s intangible ability.

So the ability you acquire has a lot to do with your subjective consciousness.

But in general, these abilities are relatively weak in the early stage. For example, even if you obtain Magneto’s ability to manipulate metals, in the early stage you may be able to move a coin at most.

It takes constant practice and doing many advanced quests to further enhance it. It is also impossible to become as powerful as the mutants in the movie .”

“The third kind of opening: metahuman-

Metahumans are very similar to mutants. The difference is that mutants activate the mutant genes dormant in their body and awaken their inherent abilities, while metahumans acquire their abilities due to an accidental external stimulus. Some representations of metahumans are Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Electro, Doctor Lizard, etc.

Metahumans are very similar to mutants, and they have all kinds of abilities- but the difference is that the powers of metahumans generally tend to be physical, not spiritual.

For example, Electro uses his cells to control lightning, while Storm uses her mental power to control lightning.

In the backstory of the metahuman opening, you will “accidentally” break into a place like a laboratory, and you will “accidentally” become a victim of an experiment, and the experiment that you “accidentally” broke into will decide your mutation ability.

For example, Spider-Man was accidentally bitten by a spider. The Fantastic Four was accidentally showered by cosmic radiation. Electro accidentally fell into a pool full of electric eels. Sandman accidentally merged with the sand…

So in the opening of the mutant, you must choose a suitable danger to strike. Basically, what you get is the corresponding ability to the danger you meet.”

“The fourth kind of opening: modified humans-

The representative of this is Captain America or Winter Soldier.

Modified humans are the result of transforming and strengthening ordinary people. It is basically an enhanced version of humans. The strength, speed, endurance, reactivity, and explosive power are all much stronger than ordinary people. You are certainly not as strong as Captain America, but stronger than ordinary people two or three times is no problem. After improving and strengthening in the later stage, you can reach Captain America’s level or even higher.

This can be regarded as a more moderate choice, because no matter what Class you choose in the later stage, there are certain advantages and no side effects, but relatively, this one is not so distinctive.

Fifth opening: Asgardians-

This opening is a bit similar to modified humans because Asgardians are essentially enhanced versions of humans. The difference is that Asgardians can learn some of Asgard’s unique magic and combat skills in the later stage.

Its disadvantages are just like aliens, probably because Asgardians technically are a kind of alien. In addition to the prestige restrictions, Asgardians can’t choose their beliefs – they can only follow Odin. This restriction is relatively severe because there are still many gods and demons in the Marvel universe.
