Chapter 12 of 100
Chapter 12

After returning from work, I finished dinner and a bath, then logged in.
It was 9:30. If I hurried, I could have logged in before 9:00, but I'm an adult, so I took my time and completed what needed to be done, leading to this time. My friends probably leveled up by fighting unseen enemies in unseen areas during the day. Thinking about this makes me anxious, but there's nothing I can do.
Just before my consciousness fell into this world, a message was broadcast announcing that the world announcement bug had been fixed. Apparently, some people didn't receive world announcements when they overlapped with event or battle start announcements. It was stated that all past world announcements can be confirmed from a list.
When I logged in, it was midnight in this world.
I thought about what to do while lying on the bed. My friends seemed to be on break. Petro was sleeping on the adjacent bed, but his name on the friend list was gray, meaning he wasn't logged in. If I logged in, his name would turn white. At this rate, the logout break with everyone shouldn't be too far off. Characters remain during logout, which is why inns are recommended for logging out.
I watched the sheets move up and down slightly. It was a fine touch; if Leo was snoring, it would be perfect. Thinking this, I looked at the bed in the back, and while Leo wasn't snoring, he was sleeping in a strange position with his stomach exposed. I wondered if my sleeping posture was okay, but since my sheets and clothes weren't disheveled, I assumed I was fine. Ah, I need to buy pajamas.
Since it's night, I decided to try production without going outside. I sent a greeting email to everyone before leaving the inn. Before production, I needed to exchange the gray wolf materials for silver at the guild. I also needed to buy a sword to learn sword skills. It's too late to find the old man's stall, though.
There are so many things I want to do.
So, I came to the production material shop and production facility rental place.
I thought it was strange to carry raw meat, so I decided to start with cooking. I have cooking tools from the stall, but according to Ochazuke, production facilities are much more efficient for leveling up until a certain level.
For production, I decided to focus on leveling up at first, so I looked at the bulletin board, which I rarely checked in other games.
There were people who obtained cooking skills by helping at stalls and those who borrowed facilities to cook once before battling to obtain skills. The former required being liked by residents or encountering someone in need, while the latter was faster but cost money. After the bulletin board post, more players chose the latter method.
Skills are definitely obtained after a relevant action during battle. I helped a troubled shop owner, so I'm the former, yes, I helped.
When cooking reaches level 10, you can change your job to a cook at a restaurant. If you meet the requirements, you can change to other production jobs at their respective guilds or relevant places. Combat jobs can also be changed at the temple, where you can swap your main and sub jobs. Main jobs affect the stats that increase with level up: INT for mages, DEX and AGI for thieves, DEX and STR for blacksmiths, DEX and AGI for tailors, and DEX and MID for alchemists. I assume alchemy increases DEX and INT.
In short, it's better to decide your main job early to get the appropriate stats.
I meet the requirements for changing jobs. I have more to do; I need to become a swordsman and learn skills!
Production skills are a bit different. For example, the swordsman's "Slash" and its derivatives are separate skills, but production skills, like "Magic," increase in various ways depending on the actions taken. For example, if you keep sewing buttons, you'll get "Button Sewing," and if you keep sewing straight lines, you'll get "Straight Sewing." Skills you learn reduce time and ensure a certain quality. For example, "Straight Sewing" learned from tailoring can be used in leatherworking.
As it's clear that you must take one combat and one production job, this game is designed to allow you to produce while fighting. Conversely, you can fight while producing, so as your level increases, you can gather materials on your own to some extent.
Cooking has "Basic Recipes" and "Recipes." Following a "Basic Recipe" and cooking the ingredients will allow you to learn cooking methods like "Boil," enabling you to cook other "Boil" dishes not in the "Basic Recipe."
"Recipes" are cookbooks that, even if you can't cook in the real world, will help you make perfect dishes and record the dishes you make, allowing you to recreate them with the same quality if you have the ingredients.
New dishes you make with learned cooking methods are registered as "Recipes" after you make them once. The first time, you need to use the facility and do it manually, but single recipes not in the "Basic Recipe" are also sold for those who are bad at cooking. For complicated dishes, it might be easier to buy the recipe.
"Basic Recipes" 1 to 5 can be purchased at production facilities, so I decided to rent a room for the shortest hour.
Inside was a kitchen with a sink, cutting board, oven, gas stove, and a charcoal grill for grilling. There was also a marble countertop to keep things cool and a device to warm plates. I had no confidence in using these, especially the ones I hadn't seen before.
I bought Recipe 1, and using the recipe added a cooking recipe section below the "Encyclopedia" when I appraised it. Looking at Recipe 1, it had Berry Juice, Orange Juice, and Grape Juice.
Recipe 1 costs 100 silver, and each recipe's price is 100 times its number. I had over 15,000 silver from selling the gray wolf's fur, so it wasn't a problem. Before hunting, I was almost down to 1,000 silver, so I was relieved.
I decided to start with Berry Juice since I had plenty of berries and bought the missing water. I had cooking water from the stall, but it was cheaper to buy more for mass production, even if the rank was lower.
By the way, even without skills, you can make the same-looking dishes with facilities, but the evaluation will be 2 or lower. The meat sandwich I made with Petro was probably judged as made by the skilled shop owner Jos, which was fortunate. Cooking can just be bad, but if it's a potion, an evaluation of 1 means it's poisonous. Dangerous, dangerous.
So, the process is:
Check if you have two berries and three waters in your inventory.
Cook. You get three Berry Juices.
That's it.
The sink and mixer are just for show.
They increase production efficiency just by being there. You can use them manually, but the results won't change much, at least not at this level. I want to try grilling meat on the grill!
So, let's mass produce.
I thought I had a lot of 82 berries, but it was just an illusion. In no time, I made 123 cups of Berry Juice. I bought more berries to make 99 cups of Berry Juice.
Thanks to Kikuhime, my pouch has plenty of space, but it can fill up quickly, so I need to be careful. I plan to sell them, but I want to get into the habit of organizing.
Water and berries cost 2 silver each. I bought Berry Juice for 5 silver at the stall, but the selling price is 4 silver. I can make three for 10 silver, so I can make a profit by selling to NPCs, even if the experience points from the initial recipe are low.
Next, I made 99 Orange Juices. I bought oranges and water. All recipes in Recipe 1 require two ingredients and make three dishes at a time. Next, I made Grape Juice. The food rank seems to be Berry < Orange < Grape, and some Grape Juices had lower evaluations than Berry Juice.
While making Grape Juice, my level increased. High-rank recipes with expensive materials level up quickly but result in a loss when sold, so I can't get carried away. Unfortunately.
【Squeeze】 learned.
You can now make "Squeeze" dishes not in the "Basic Recipe."
【Favorite Dish】 and related "Recipes" obtained after completing Recipe 1.
【Favorite Dish】 allows you to learn cooking methods by making the obtained "Recipe" alone. Moreover, the learned method or material is registered as a "Favorite Dish" with a +2 evaluation bonus. Even if the rank is too high for your level, the minimum evaluation of 1 becomes 3 with the +2 bonus, which is amazing. However, you can't make dishes that are too inappropriate for your level due to the material rank barrier.
If your main job is "Cook," your stats will increase favorably for production jobs when you level up, and even if "Cook" is your sub job, you get a bonus for the material rank you handle. I love eating, but I also love adventuring and fighting, so I plan to keep my main job as a combat job and my sub job as an alchemist who can make potions.
I won't be able to compete with those whose main job is a production job, but with a high evaluation of 10 being difficult, I should be able to make decent dishes with my favorite dishes. It's convenient that many initial production skills don't require SP.
If your first dish is a skewer, you'll get "Grill" or "Meat" as a cooking method or material. You only get one, and if you get "Favorite Dish" without eating anything, you get "Grill" or "Meat." Skewers are cheap and often the first dish people eat, so it's the default setting, according to the bulletin board. I'm envious of those starting now who can choose their "Favorite Dish."
So, what did I get for my "Favorite Dish"? If I go by the norm, it should be "Tea" or a step in making tea, like "Blend" or "Extract."
Cooking Methods
【Extract】【Ferment】【Mix】【Grill】【Stir-fry】【Fry】【Smoke】【Dry】【Brew】
Materials
『Tea』『Alcohol』『Meat』『Fish』『Grains』『Vegetables』『Eggs』『Dairy』『Nuts』『Fruits』
What? I thought I was supposed to get one?
I got so many! What is this?
Tea makes sense.
I have no idea about the others, so I furrowed my brow in thought but gave up and checked the added recipes. The dishes I ate should be registered as recipes.
『Barley Tea』『Beer』『Roasted Flying Rabbit』『Fried Potatoes』... Yes, the Roasted Flying Rabbit came with a salad and bread. What does it mean to get both "Cooking Methods" and "Materials"? The rest must be Galahad's snacks, I think.
Smoked eggs, dried fish, three types of cheese, nuts, and dried fruits. I remember them from the time I was listening to the story of the pure knight. Galahad was eager to drink and offered me a taste, so I remember them well.
Looking at the recipe names, I found the dishes that correspond to my "Favorite Dishes," but I'm still puzzled about why I remember them so well.
Later, I found that several people had posted that the samples they tasted from stall owners were registered as "Favorite Dishes." There were three patterns: if you were at a juice stall, you could get "Squeeze" and "Fruit" from tasting Berry Juice and Orange Juice, which increased your "Favorite Dishes" more than just eating. If you were in a party and tasted the same thing, you got two types. If you tasted one type alone, you got one. The post concluded by encouraging people to get two "Favorite Dishes" by either getting two samples from a stall owner or tasting in a party.
I don't understand, but am I a Galahad cheat? If I'm benefiting, is it okay? Is it okay?
The recipes for "Favorite Dishes" like Beer, Cheese, Smoked Eggs, Dried Fruits, and Dried Fish are not done yet.
Of course, they can't be done quickly!
Recipes from the list finish almost immediately, with only a slight delay for Roasts. I think these take much less time than in the real world, but still.
So, the menu shows that the Cheese is fermenting, the Beer is brewing, the Smoked Eggs are smoking, and the Dried Fruits and Dried Fish are drying, with the display changing at regular intervals.
The others are done, and "Roast" added the "Fire Control" skill.
After that, I made all the "Basic Recipes." If I don't care about the evaluation, I managed to make everything. Recipes 4 and 5 had evaluations of 3 to 4, and it felt like I barely made them with the "Favorite Dish" bonus, but I didn't care. The "Cooking Methods" added from "Basic Recipes" and "Favorite Dishes" are 【Squeeze】【Extract】【Boil】【Ferment】【Mix】【Grill】【Stir-fry】【Fry】【Smoke】【Dry】【Brew】.
The "Fire Control" skill consumes MP.
Recipe 5 was a bit different with "Salad," "Pellet," and "Hamburger." I already had "Mix" from my "Favorite Dishes," but I made all of them for leveling up. The pellet is probably for fishing bait, which I can give to Leo later.
Using the "Fire Control" skill, I could choose between half-boiled and fully-boiled eggs when making boiled eggs, which were only fully-boiled when made normally.
I learned "Grill" from Roasted Nuts and made a Steak recipe! Using "Fire Control," I could choose between rare, medium, and well-done.
There was no "Grill" in the "Basic Recipes" 1 to 5, but with both "Grill" and "Meat" bonuses, the evaluation is 5. I'll give it to Shin, who loves meat.
