On January 1, 500 of the Sacred Calendar, a boy was born in the capital city of Brünhild, in the Brützels Frontier Province.
The Brützels Frontier Province, though called a frontier, is a region with a large population and prosperity. This is the result of successive lords promoting reclamation and development, and the area is known as the granary of the Holy Bandum Kingdom, with vast expanses of fertile land. Not only that, but the province also has mines that produce rare minerals, making it industrially prosperous, which ensures the financial well-being of the Brützels Frontier Province, governed by the Brützels Frontier Duke's family.
The young lord, Ernest von Brützels, governs the Brützels Frontier Province, and the newborn is the second son of the Brützels Frontier Duke's family.
In the Holy Bandum Kingdom, the hierarchy includes the king or queen, their consort, the crown prince, and the royal family. The consort of the king or queen can also have the right to inherit the throne if they are within six degrees of kinship to the current king or queen, but generally, the right to inherit the throne is held by the crown prince and the royal family. Even if someone is a child of the king, they are not called a member of the royal family if they do not have the right to inherit the throne. However, it is rare for a child of the king to not have the right to inherit the throne.
There is also a noble class without the right to inherit the throne, which includes marquises and frontier dukes, followed by counts, viscounts, barons, knights, and gentlemen. Below the nobility, there are citizens, free people, commoners, ordinary slaves, and criminal slaves.
Despite being the second son of the Brützels Frontier Duke in a country with such a hierarchical system, he is raised with no consideration of inheriting the Brützels Frontier Duke's family.
