If You Are a Dodder Flower Chapter 79 part2
A few days later, Cao An called Cao Yang.
“She’s very thin. I was surprised when I saw her,” Cao An said. “She wouldn’t let me take a picture to show you.”
He didn’t actually dare tell him that Xia Rou could nearly be described as skin and bones.
“What happened to her?” Cao Yang asked, voice deep.
“It’s not only that she has insomnia, I just feel that…” Cao An was a little hesitant to share his observations. “Her mental state doesn’t seem right.”
Cao Yang’s heart was gripped with anxiety. Translated by The Novelst
“I have friends here who helped me book a very well-known psychologist for consultation. I’ll let you know once I take her to visit the doctor,” he said.
During those few days of waiting, Cao Yang was wracked with anxiety.
Cao An called again a few days later. “It’s hard to explain. I’ll just fax you the medical records, so you can take a look at it yourself.”
He received the fax from Cao An.
On the very first page, there was Xia Rou’s signature authorizing the doctor to share her medical records with her family.
Cao Yang smoked as he read, his brows tightening.
Cao An called him again. “Have you taken a look?”
“Yeah. What’s going on?”
“It’s troublesome. She has depression,” Cao An said, “and the worst part is that she suffers from delusional disorder.”
Cao Yang had seen it in the report.
Inside Xia Rou’s world, there were two of him.
According to Xia Rou’s descriptions, the doctor differentiated the two beings as “Yang” and “Big brother.” After his first deep conversation with Xia Rou, the doctor determined that Yang existed in reality, while Big brother was only in Xia Rou’s imagination.
“I spoke with the doctor and… I explained… the things… that happened between the two of you,” Cao An said, trying to be tactful.
“The doctor thinks this happened because she thought too highly of your past identity as a big brother. When your relationship with her changed so drastically, her heart rejected it. At the same time, because of the changes, you lost your identity as a big brother. But Rou Rou couldn’t let it go, so she imagined another you to compensate.”
Cao Yang had already guessed at all of this once he saw the medical records.
So there was no third man. The man inside Xia Rou’s heart was himself all along!
His heart felt like it was being poked by needles.
He took a deep breath and ordered Coa An, “Bring her back now!”
“I can’t,” Cao An said helplessly. “She’s not willing. And it’s not like we’re inside the country. Here, if I were to try and force her, any passerby could report it to the police and I would be locked in jail. And then you guys would have to come and bail me out.”
Cao Yang felt blood pumping in his head but had nowhere to vent it. He hated that Xia Rou had run away so far to a place he could do nothing about!
“Then what are you planning?” He could only ask.
“The next appointment is next week. We set a schedule to visit the doctor once a week.” Cao An comforted him, “Brother, don’t be in such a rush. Rou Rou is very cooperative and the treatment is helping.”
“The doctor says that patients like her that realize their own mental condition is not sound that are able to actively seek help and are cooperative in treatment are usually the quickest to recover.”
Quickest my arse!
Cao Yang kicked his chair violently.
Once he had gone through his rebellious phase, he had become steadier like his father.
It had been a long time since he lost control.
He read the record over and over again.
【Him? He’s my “big brother,” always has been】
【Him? He’s “Yang”.】
【I thought he was “big brother”, but I was wrong, he’s not.】
【”Big brother”… can no longer be found…】
Every time he read through it, his heart felt like it was being stabbed with a knife.
He recalled the past, when Xia Rou’s eyes were bright and her smile overflowed. The trust and intimation she had with him was like she was born with it.
He remembered when she had just arrived at the house, all alone. He had even needed to ask after her period and attend all of her parent-teacher conferences.
Her food and clothing, school results, friends – everything, without exception, had all been handled by Cao Yang.
Towards Xia Rou, he… probably even surpassed the scope of a “brother,” huh?
Xia Rou who was all alone saw him as a brother, father, and even… a mother.
She was dependent on him until… he had hugged her into his arms with a man’s perspective.
Cao Yang tasted for the first time the bitterness of regret.
He called Xia rou.
“Come back,” he said softly. “I won’t touch you.”
“If you only want to be my little sister, then I’ll go back to being your big brother.”
But Xia Rou’s voice was filled with sadness.
“It’s too late,” she said. “We can’t go back.”
“Can’t… go back anymore…” Translated by The Novelst
That was right. There were some things that couldn’t be undone.
He had entered her body and turned her from a girl to a woman. Those memories – neither of them would forget.
Even if he was regretful, they could no longer go back to the past.
Cao Yang… was grief-stricken.
