After a while, the pain finally began to subside.
I slowly got up from the floor and lay down on the bed on my back.
“I’ve been reincarnated…”
The moment the pain subsided, I understood.
The pain I had just experienced was due to the memories of my past life flooding in.
It seems that I still remember my current life, but I feel that my personality and inner self are influenced by my past life.
That’s because I find my current situation impossible to accept.
Until just a moment ago, I had accepted my unfortunate life, filled with the anxiety of losing my place. But now, I can’t accept it at all.
(Being ignored by my husband, pressured by my mother-in-law, and looked down upon by the servants… doing only the assigned work and waiting every night for a husband who never comes… I can’t do this! Ah!)
“…That’s right, I’ll have this marriage annulled.”
While it’s not easy for nobles to get a divorce, there are exceptions.
One is if no children are born after three years of marriage. The other is if a white marriage (a marriage without consummation) continues for three years.
The former results in a divorce, and the latter in an annulment. If three years have passed, either can be processed by one person alone.
Before I remembered my past life, I was concerned about the three-year period for this very reason. I was worried that my husband might declare a divorce or annulment.
However, the fact that my husband, as usual, did not appear in the marital bedroom is convenient for me now.
“Thinking of it, today is a good day to act! I’ll leave this mansion right away.”
I immediately left the marital bedroom to go to my workroom to prepare.
It was already late at night, so I didn’t encounter any servants on my way to the room. I changed my clothes and packed my bag. The bag has a spatial magic spell on it, so I can carry many items conveniently.
“This, this… Ah, I need to take this too.”
After packing everything, I started a familiar task, which I completed quickly.
“Done! Alright, I’ll drink this…”
I drank the magic potion I had made. The effects were immediate, and my hair and eye color began to change.
My hair turned from a dull gold to brown, and my eyes changed from blue to brown.
“Magic potions are definitely easier than dyeing.”
I said this while looking in the mirror and tying my hair into a single braid. I put on a robe to complete my preparations.
“First, I need to go to the church to get the marriage annulled due to the white marriage.”
There’s still time before sunrise. If I leave now, I should be able to reach the church first thing in the morning.
The people in the mansion won’t notice my absence immediately, and by the time they do, the annulment will already be in place.
They might not notice for an even longer time.
I left a letter on the work desk, opened the window, and stepped outside with my bag. I used magic to put the gatekeeper to sleep and walked out through the main gate.
I have no intention of ever returning to this mansion or this country.
From now on, I will live as I please.
And I will create my own place in the world.
“Goodbye, then.”
I said this to the mansion and started walking down the dark road.
