Zhang Ye was telling a story, speaking at a relatively fast pace, much faster than Tian Bin's. Just like everyone has a different personality, everyone also has their own style when it comes to storytelling. Zhang Ye was very quick in describing most of the story, but of course, he would slow down for the key moments to build the atmosphere.
"Chapter One: The White Paper Man. My grandfather's name was Hu Guohua. The Hu family was a wealthy clan in the surrounding areas, owning over forty houses in three connected alleys in the city during their most prosperous period. Some of them held official positions and engaged in business, and they even donated grain to the Qing Dynasty and assisted in the grain transport."
Outside.
No one knew what was going on. No one had expected Zhang Ye to actually take over and start telling a ghost story, solving the immediate crisis. However, after listening to the first few paragraphs, the audience had no expectations for the content of the story. Was this a supernatural novel? It was too plain. Was this an autobiography? Why was he talking so much about the protagonist's grandfather? He mentioned tomb raiding earlier, but could tomb raiding even be considered supernatural? They had never seen this type of novel before. In their view, only works that had been accepted by the market and tested by readers were good. But they had never even heard of the tomb-raiding novel Zhang Ye was telling, so they immediately labeled it as "not good."
However, this opinion only lasted for ten minutes.
When Zhang Ye described a paper craftsman making a paper man that came to life and spoke, expressing a desire to marry Hu Guohua, Wang Xiaomei shivered, and Zhao Guozhou's eyes became serious. The atmosphere in the room suddenly turned cold!
The white paper man asked Hu Guohua to dig up her grave, and Hu Guohua, driven by greed, went to the grave and was eaten by the white paper man. The plot became intense, and everyone's breathing tightened!
Tian Bin was stunned, as it was a midnight program, and few people at the station would listen at that time, as most would be asleep. He was the DJ who usually told ghost stories, so he had a good sense of these supernatural tales. Initially, he had subjectively assumed that a tomb-raiding novel couldn't possibly have a market, as it had never appeared before. But as he listened, Tian Bin felt his pores contract, and a chill seemed to emanate from Zhang Ye's mouth. The story had completely captured him!
Was this his original work?
How could he write such a story?
Tian Bin didn't believe it, and Wang Xiaomei and the others were equally incredulous!
Only Zhao Guozhou might have a better understanding. He remembered Zhang Ye's impromptu poem "The Seagull" during the interview, which had amazed all the interviewers. Zhang Ye was a very talented person; otherwise, how could he have been admitted to the broadcasting and hosting program with his appearance? Zhao Guozhou had even snatched Zhang Ye from Li Honglian to join the cultural radio station, and it seemed he had made a wise decision!
It was one o'clock in the morning.
An hour had passed quickly.
The number of people outside remained the same, including Zhao Guozhou, and no one had left early; they were all listening to the story.
The female assistant gave Zhang Ye a signal.
Zhang Ye nodded in acknowledgment and paused the story at an appropriate point. "Ladies and gentlemen, that's all for today's program. Please tune in again at the same time tomorrow. Thank you all, I'm your DJ, Zhang Ye." He pushed the equipment, and the music played. Zhang Ye took off his headphones and sighed in relief. Saying he wasn't nervous would be a lie. He had made a few mistakes, almost making a fool of himself, but his basic skills were solid, and he was satisfied with his first live broadcast, even with a few flaws within acceptable limits.
A staff member quickly came in to prepare for the rebroadcast of yesterday's prime-time program.
Zhang Ye walked to Zhao Guozhou's room, opened the door, and apologized, "Leader, I'm sorry. I didn't consult everyone before going live. It was mainly because I saw the time was running out, and I didn't want the program to be interrupted. So, I thought of an idea and told the story based on my own thoughts and creativity. Since it's my original work, there's no copyright issue. I thought it was simple, but... I'm really sorry, and if there are any repercussions, I'll take full responsibility!"
No one reacted, and the room was silent.
Zhang Ye blinked, "Leader, I..."
Suddenly, Zhao Guozhou raised his hand and slowly clapped!
A middle-aged editor from the team also raised his hand and clapped hard!
Then, clap, clap, clap, everyone gradually joined in, creating quite a stir in the late-night radio station building.
Zhao Guozhou grabbed Zhang Ye's shoulder and smiled, "You're apologizing? You saved the day just in time! If you hadn't gone on, who knows what would have happened. And your novel 'Ghost Blows Out the Light' is excellent, both in quality and language. I think it's even better than the supernatural novels we bought for a lot of money. I knew I didn't make a mistake with you!"
Zhang Ye hurriedly said, "You're too kind, too kind."
The female assistant also smiled and gave Zhang Ye a thumbs-up.
Li Si frowned, and Tian Bin, seeing this, felt unhappy and looked at Zhang Ye coldly.
Zhao Guozhou clapped his hands to get everyone's attention. "Alright, everyone has worked hard tonight. Go home and rest." He then said to Zhang Ye, "Zhang, do you have more of this story? You'll continue tomorrow. 'Midnight Ghost Stories' will be hosted by you for now!"
Me?
This program is mine now?
Zhang Ye was overjoyed. He had only been there for a week, a complete newcomer, and he already had his own program? He had seized the key opportunity. He immediately said, "Thank you for your trust, Leader. I'll definitely do my best!"
Tian Bin, however, was not happy. "Leader, he's hosting? What about me..."
Zhao Guozhou, impatient, said, "What about you! You didn't even dare to go on air in the last few seconds! If it weren't for Zhang Ye, we would have had a live broadcast accident! You'll be on temporary duty! Reflect on your actions for a while!" He yawned and left, exhausted.
"Leader!" Tian Bin called out.
Zhao Guozhou didn't look back as he went home.
Wang Xiaomei gave Zhang Ye a deep look and left.
Zhang Ye looked at Tian Bin and said, "Teacher Tian, I'm sorry. I'll still need your guidance in the future." He didn't gloat or act smugly, speaking calmly and politely. Zhang Ye was quite proud of his demeanor, thinking about his grace!
Tian Bin, however, was furious!
Tian Bin, who had been calling the shots during the day, relying on his seniority to bully the newcomer Zhang Ye, had his program taken over by Zhang Ye just a few hours later. The world was unpredictable! Tian Bin clenched his teeth, thinking that it wasn't certain who would laugh last. The key was the audience ratings for the next day. If the ratings were still at the bottom despite the significant promotion, Zhang Ye would be removed even if he hadn't made any mistakes. After the punishment and self-criticism, the program would still be hosted by Tian Bin!
