Chapter 78

I have arrived at the north wall.
At the training ground.
To train the Far Eastern Hero Party, I gather Lawrence and the others to talk.
"We will begin the training now."
"Training! My heart is leaping! Getting training from Act again! I'm so moved!"
The tall, blonde man Lawrence says with a smile.
"Don't misunderstand. I won't be directly instructing you."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
The Far Eastern Hero, Kogami, tilts her head and says.
"Lawrence, you and the others will be instructing Kogami and the others."
"Huh! I don't understand!"
I distribute parchments to the heroes.
- Lawrence, Urgar → Kogami
- Mizuki, Mead → Wood Hero
- Eli → Earth Hero
- Luna → Light Hero
"So, Guild Master, you're saying that Urgar, the spearhead of this Hero Party, should teach Kogami?"
"That's right. I will consider the appropriate weapons and training methods for the Far Eastern Heroes. But the training methods are up to you, Lawrence."
However, Lawrence and the others don't seem to fully understand my words.
"Guild Master, what's in it for us? We're not exactly free, you know."
"Are you saying you lack the confidence to teach others?"
"Ugh! That's not it!"
"Then do as you're told."
"Hmph! Of course, teaching others is a piece of cake for me, Urgar!"
The others also seem to agree.
I nod and say,
"Alright, let's begin the training."
★
A few days have passed.
Lawrence and the others are each taking charge of training the Far Eastern Heroes.
"Um, Act-sama?"
"What is it, Viel?"
The evil dragon Viel stands behind me in human form.
"Does this have any meaning?"
"Yes. Lawrence and the others will realize it eventually."
First, I go to where Urgar and Lawrence are training Kogami.
"Wait, wait, wait a minute!"
Kogami, holding a wooden sword, is kneeling on the ground.
"Urgar! What's wrong, Kogami!"
"Just... let me rest a bit!"
She raises her voice, but Lawrence tilts his head.
"You've only done 9,999 swings!"
"But 100 million swings will take all day!"
"Urgar! It's a problem if you spend so much time on a light warm-up!"
"That's not normal! 100 million swings as a warm-up is insane!"
Urgar sighs.
"Lawrence, she's right. 100 million swings is too much for a beginner."
"Thank goodness... you seem normal..."
"Let's start with 100,000 swings?"
"Even you!?"
"Huh? 100,000 swings is also too much! I thought you were normal, but you're a monster too!"
"Wh-What... I thought I was normal... When did I become... poisoned!?"
I watch from a distance.
"Seems to be going well."
"Where's the 'well' in that?"
"Let's check on the next one."
"Ugh..."
Next, we go to the Wood Hero.
Water Hero Mizuki and Tamer Mead are training him.
"Sir Mokuren, you are a middle guard, which means you can switch between front and back lines as the situation demands, making you an all-rounder."
"Middle guard means you need to always be aware of the battle situation. Got it?"
Mokuren nods.
"This is a training exercise to improve your situational awareness. First, put this on."
Mead hands Mokuren a blindfold.
"Alright, we'll attack you, and you need to dodge."
"Wh-What? No way, no way, no way!"
"You can do it! You can do it! Wooo!"
Mizuki slashes at Mokuren.
"Wh-What? No way! Stop it! Aaaaah!"
Mokuren is attacked by Mizuki while blindfolded.
"Remember, it's not just one enemy. Monsters will attack you too!"
Mead whistles, and low-level monsters gather to attack Mokuren.
"Stop, stop, stop! Stop it!"
They stop attacking.
"What's wrong?"
"I can't take this! I'm going to die!"
Viel and Mead tilt their heads.
"You won't die from this kind of warm-up."
"You're exaggerating."
"Ha? Then you try it!"
"Alright."
Mizuki puts on the blindfold.
Mead makes the monsters attack.
"Here we go."
"Wow... he's dodging all the attacks... even though he can't see..."
"I see with my mind's eye. Now, let's start the training!"
I nod at Mead and the others.
"Seems to be going well."
"Really? It looks like they're bullying him..."
"Let's move on."
"Heeey..."
Eli and Luna are training the Light and Earth Heroes.
"Don't worry. Unlike Lawrence and the others, we won't start with such difficult training."
"Thank goodness..."
"Thank goodness..."
The Light Hero [Nikko] and the Earth Hero [Tobun] sigh in relief.
"Guild Master told us that rear guards are more efficient with staves than swords, right?"
"But if your total magic power is low, it doesn't make sense. So, let's start by increasing your magic power."
The heroes look relieved.
"Good for you, Tobun. These people seem normal."
"Right, Nikko. We're glad we're rear guards."
Eli waves her staff.
The ground rises, forming a massive rock wall.
She waves it again, and water sprays down like a waterfall.
"Alright, both of you, take off your clothes and stand under the waterfall."
"Wh-What!?"
Eli smiles.
"You can use magic to protect your body while standing under the waterfall. That way, you can train both your magic power and stamina at the same time."
"Interesting... How long?"
"Let's see..."
Eli tilts her head cutely.
"Since it's the first day, let's start with a light 10 hours."
"No way, no way, no way, no way!"
"That's too much, Eli. It's too hard for beginners."
"Runa-san!"
"Maybe 8 hours is more reasonable?"
"Runa-san!?"
In the end, Tobun and Nikko stand under the waterfall.
I nod.
"Looks good."
"It looks like harassment under the guise of training..."
After checking everyone's progress, I leave the area.
"Um... Is this really meaningful?"
"Yes, you'll understand eventually."
"Really?"
"Hey, do you want to do some training too?"
"I'll respectfully decline with all my might!"
★
A few days later, in the outskirts of the north wall.
"Seeeeaaaaa!"
The Fire Hero Kogami, wielding two swords, releases 10,000 slashes.
The raging flames scatter the demon minions around her.
A demon attacks, but the Wood Hero Mokuren quickly covers her.
Mokuren, wielding a magic staff-sword, parries the attack and stops the enemy's movement with a binding spell.
The Light Hero Nikko and the Earth Hero Tobun immediately cast spells.
"Heavenly Lightning Sword!"
"Earth Dragon Jaw"
They cast powerful lightning and earth magic without incantations.
A massive lightning sword appears from the sky, striking the enemy and causing an electric discharge.
A huge crack appears in the ground, sending the enemy falling into the depths before the earth returns to normal.
"Not bad! Not bad! Not bad! Not bad!"
Lawrence and the others watch from the back, arms crossed.
"No, no, no, no..."
Viel shakes his head, looking pale.
"What's going on? The Far Eastern people are turning into monsters too!?"
"Urgar! That's the least they should be able to do!"
"No, no, no, no..."
Viel shakes his head, exhausted.
"Act, you're amazing!"
"What's with the sudden praise?"
Lawrence smiles.
"You must have deliberately given us the task of training to improve our own skills!"
"What do you mean?"
"By teaching others, we reviewed what we've learned, and the vague parts became clearer through verbalization."
"Teaching others also contributed to our own growth."
"Our skills have been refined and elevated to a higher level."
Viel nods in admiration.
"Guild Master is truly the best instructor! Amazing!"
"But, Guild Master, weren't you going to stop training us?"
Urgar grins.
"Don't misunderstand. I just found it troublesome to instruct directly, so I pushed the responsibility onto you."
But everyone smiles and nods.
"You're not being honest, Guild Master."
"Even that's charming, Act!"
I look at the heroes. They seem to be doing well.
"Hmph. The rest is up to you. Viel, take them back to the city."
"Sure... I'm completely a carriage now... sigh..."
Thus, I leave them to their own devices and return to the home town.
