"Uh...”
Yang Tingting almost choked on her words halfway through.
She had thought he was too embarrassed to ask for money, but now he was outright telling her to do the work.
"Hey, hey, hey! Lin Yihang, are you out of your mind? How dare you ask our great school beauty to stew a chicken for you?" Lu Man put her hands on her hips and widened her eyes.
"You... What’s wrong with stewing a chicken? The injuries on my head were all because of you guys." Lin Yihang rolled his eyes, looking completely justified.
"You...”
Lu Man was about to say more, but Yang Tingting stopped her with a hand. "Alright, Xiao Man. Lin Yihang is right. His injuries were indeed caused by us. Stewing a chicken for him isn’t a big deal. However, a chicken doesn’t cost much, so here’s five thousand yuan. I’ll stew the chicken for you tonight and bring it over."
As she spoke, Yang Tingting stood up, her tone already somewhat cold.
A boy asking her to stew a chicken made her wonder if he had other intentions.
It was hard for a pretty girl, who had been pursued by many, not to be sensitive about such things.
"Hey, hold on! Hold on!" Lin Yihang didn’t seem to notice. "A chicken doesn’t cost much, but I need some herbs to help me recover. Do you have paper and a pen? I’ll list the herbs you need to add."
"Do you even know about food therapy?" Lu Man was curious.
"A little." Lin Yihang said modestly.
"Tsk!" However, Lu Man clearly didn’t believe he was being modest and took it as boasting. "Wait here, I’ll get paper and a pen from the nurse’s station. I’ll see if you can pull this off."
Lu Man firmly believed that Lin Yihang didn’t even know the names of the herbs.
The girl moved quickly and soon returned with paper and a pen.
Lin Yihang took the pen, frowned in thought, and started writing.
"Wild ginseng is too expensive... Deer antler slices will do! Saffron, gecko, and Gastrodia... Oh, this is troublesome! My memory is too limited! I don’t even know if these things exist on Earth..."
Lu Man rolled her eyes. "Lin Yihang, do you think using these terms makes you sound cool? Talking about things that might not even exist on Earth... It’s like you’re from another planet."
"Congratulations, you’re right!"
Lin Yihang finished writing and handed the list to Yang Tingting. "Here, the names and quantities of the herbs are all on it. Don’t buy a factory-farmed chicken; get a free-range old hen. Oh, this is so troublesome! There’s nothing here, I can only make do!"
Lin Yihang sighed sincerely.
"..." Yang Tingting and Lu Man were speechless.
Lu Man took the list and looked at it, and Yang Tingting leaned in to see the names of the herbs, looking at Lin Yihang with some surprise. She hadn’t expected him to actually write them down.
Even if they weren’t sure if they were correct, it was impressive for a high school student to know so many herb names! Moreover, these things looked quite plausible.
"These herbs are all for tonics. Are you sure you won’t bleed from all seven orifices after eating them?" Yang Tingting waved the list in her hand.
"Don’t worry! If I die from eating them, you won’t have to pay for it." Lin Yihang smiled and handed over the five thousand yuan. "Take this money. Bring me a portion every day according to this list until I’m discharged. Then we’ll be even. I won’t owe you any favors, and you won’t owe me any favors."
The last part, Lin Yihang said more seriously.
Yang Tingting hesitated for a moment and took the money. With him speaking so clearly, refusing the money would make her seem like she was deliberately causing trouble.
With everything settled, Yang Tingting and Lu Man said goodbye and left.
" Tingting, does Lin Yihang have some ulterior motives towards you?" As soon as they were out the door, Lu Man asked with a gossipy look.
"Stop talking nonsense! Didn’t you hear him say that no one owes anyone any favors?" Yang Tingting scolded.
"Yeah, you’re right! If even he dares to have designs on you, that would be too presumptuous." Lu Man muttered.
"Stop overthinking it, let’s go! We need to buy the herbs first." Yang Tingting was already walking quickly ahead.
"Oh? Really? Great beauty Yang, you’re really going to stew it yourself? There’s a postpartum soup shop at the entrance; you could just buy a portion there." Lu Man suggested.
"Ha! Postpartum soup can’t compare to this! The herbs Lin Yihang listed are all very valuable. I think a few servings will barely use up the five thousand yuan. A roadside postpartum soup definitely won’t fool him. Maybe we’ve underestimated him!" Yang Tingting’s beautiful eyes showed a thoughtful expression.
"There’s no way it’s as amazing as you say! I think you’re overthinking it. Let’s go, or we’ll miss the afternoon class." Lu Man urged.
"Alright!" Yang Tingting nodded. The two of them hailed a taxi and left.
...
After sending the two girls away, Lin Yihang lay back on the bed.
Actually, his body was already fine. The cut on his head from the desk corner was just a minor injury. Eating more meat and practicing for two days would heal him faster than staying in the hospital.
The problem was his situation wasn’t good.
He had been injured and missing for a night, and his uncle hadn’t even checked on him. He wouldn’t get good treatment when he returned home.
As for school, being bullied every day was something his predecessor might have gotten used to, but Lin Yihang couldn’t stand it.
He was a gifted cultivator from Dragon Tiger Mountain, admired by many, and respected and revered wherever he went. Being bullied by classmates, getting beaten up at school every other day, was the greatest humiliation!
He couldn’t bear such a life for even a day, let alone endure it temporarily to seek revenge later. If he didn’t fight back on the spot, he would explode with anger.
Unfortunately, his current body wasn’t strong enough.
After much thought, he decided it was better to stay in the hospital and avoid humiliation until his body recovered and he had the strength to protect himself. This wouldn’t take long.
Lin Yihang calmed his mind and prepared to start practicing.
To practice breathing exercises, one needed to have the five points facing upward.
The five points referred to the palms of both hands, the soles of both feet, and the top of the head, which was the standard posture for sitting in meditation.
In the hospital, it wasn’t convenient to sit in meditation. If someone saw him, they would think he was crazy and transfer him to a mental hospital. Lying in bed, it was easy to have his palms and soles facing up, but his head couldn’t face up. Instead, his forehead faced up. With Lin Yihang’s experience, he could still maintain a stable mind and connect with the universe.
He assumed the posture, visualized the Nine Heavens diagram he usually practiced, and immediately, with each breath, the essence and energy in his body began to gather and circulate.
Then, the threads of spiritual energy in the surrounding universe began to seep into his body.
The spiritual energy on Earth was thin and impure, and this body’s blood and qi were insufficient, so the absorption of spiritual energy was very slow. Even so, the absorbed energy slowly transformed Lin Yihang’s body, making his blood and qi flow more smoothly.
"Huh? Patient 73’s sleeping posture is so strange. Is there a problem?"
"No, his breathing is steady, his complexion is rosy, and he’s sleeping soundly. It seems he’s recovering well."
"Oh! I heard he was beaten by his classmates? Sigh, today’s students!"
The two nurses sighed, shook their heads, and walked away, chatting softly.
Lin Yihang seemed not to notice their arrival and continued practicing. After several cycles, the flow became smoother.
"Bed 73 to 74! Here it is, here it is!"
Suddenly, a loud commotion and noisy footsteps approached.
Lin Yihang frowned and opened his eyes.
Being interrupted during a smooth practice session would make anyone unhappy.
Bang!
The door was pushed open.
A fat middle-aged woman poked her head in and looked around.
"Huh? There’s already someone here!"
Her loud voice matched her size, making the whole room buzz. Having a patient in the room seemed like a rare occurrence to her.
"Family members, please speak softly. This is a hospital room, and it affects the patient’s rest." The nurse quickly came over to remind them.
"Hospital room? So what? Can’t people talk in a hospital room? You young lady are really something, what’s with your strange temper!" The middle-aged woman’s voice was even louder.
The nurse’s face stiffened, but she still managed a smile, though it looked awkward. "Sorry! Maybe my tone was off, but the hospital does have rules. Loud talking is not allowed in the ward."
"Who’s talking loudly? Who’s talking loudly? As long as you don’t talk here, there’s no problem!" The middle-aged woman was even more annoyed, hands on her hips, and her voice raised, spitting out saliva on the nurse’s face.
"You... How can you be so unreasonable!" The nurse was angry. However, she was clearly no match for the middle-aged woman in an argument, her face turning red, not knowing what to say.
"Xiao Mei!" At this moment, a nurse in her thirties came over.
"Nurse supervisor..." Nurse Xiao Mei opened her mouth to explain.
"I know!" The nurse supervisor interrupted her, turned to the middle-aged woman, and smiled. "Sister, our nurse just graduated from nursing school and doesn’t know how to control her tone. She offended you, please forgive her. Who among you is the patient? Please check in quickly!"
The nurse supervisor defused the conflict with a few words.
"That’s more like it! I said, hospitals can’t be so domineering... Don’t worry! Don’t worry! For your sake, I’ll try to speak softer." The middle-aged woman looked smug, like a victorious rooster, and waved her hand back. "Are you two dummies? Hurry up and help your brother-in-law in!"
"Sure thing!"
Two strong men behind her helped a man walk in. The man’s clothes were covered in dirt, his eyes slightly closed, but he didn’t look like a patient.
However, he held his waist and walked to the bed, groaning exaggeratedly.
"Alright, doctor, give him the most expensive nutritional fluid first! How can the driver of such a nice car not pay for hitting us?" The middle-aged woman wiped her sweat with her sleeve.
"Hehe, please wait a moment." The nurse supervisor forced a smile and left with the embarrassed nurse.
This was a case of a traffic accident and extortion.
Lin Yihang instantly understood what was happening. From his predecessor’s memories, he knew such incidents were not uncommon in society.
However, Lin Yihang didn’t want to get involved. His current body was still weak, and he wasn’t in a position to confront anyone. Besides, this had nothing to do with him. There were many unfair things in the world, and he couldn’t deal with everything.
With more people in the room, it was noisy and he couldn’t practice peacefully. After visualizing the Nine Heavens diagram and completing a few cycles, his body had recovered some energy. It was a good time to go for a walk outside.
