Chapter 27

Many things in the world happen due to a series of coincidences, and the outcomes are often unexpected.

For example, Chu Ci never thought that his clumsy traps would take out other contestants. Take the numerous bomb traps he set up; to this day, they have only taken out one unlucky soul.

So when it started raining that day, the traces outside the building were conveniently washed away, making it impossible for the arriving contestants to see that someone had already been there. Then, the eight contestants were supposed to come from the direction where Chu Ci had set up his tent. If they had looked up carefully, they would have seen Chu Ci's even clumsier cover-up. However, the rain was so heavy that none of them even bothered to look up. Furthermore, if they had gone to other buildings first, they would have surely noticed the traces inside after settling down. But they all rushed directly into the building with the gun shop on the first floor. Finally, Chu Ci had overestimated the average level of the contestants. Their professions varied widely; while there were people like Cheng Rui who were easy targets, there were also some careless and foolish ones.

Amidst these coincidences, when the eight people took shelter in the gun shop from the rain, one of the women placed her backpack on the counter and, to her surprise and joy, discovered two handguns inside.

At this moment, everyone was still out of breath and far from calm, so they all focused on this unexpected find.

"Steven, let's take out the guns," said the eight people, who were all familiar colleagues, one of the reasons they could work together. To avoid stirring up others' nerves, Louisa, who found the handguns, gave the right to take the guns to the leader.

"Good job, Louisa," Steven was very pleased with Louisa's sense of propriety but still sought the others' opinions before approaching the counter and feeling for the door.

In Steven's view, since these were weapons provided by the organizers, the cabinet door would definitely not be locked. He didn't want to break the glass with his bare hands, as that could be a costly mistake.

"Jade, Dylan, you two will be responsible for these guns. Everyone else, stay in your positions..." Steven began to plan their next moves. While he wasn't sure if his colleagues would truly share the same hardships, he wasn't worried about them betraying him.

Unfortunately, Steven's grand plans never got off the ground. As soon as he opened the cabinet door, he heard the sound of steel wires being pulled.

"Boom!!"

Chu Ci jumped up and hit the top of the tent. "Rui, stay here and don't make a sound!" Seeing Cheng Rui nod, he ran out of the tent.

As soon as Chu Ci emerged, a strong wind and icy raindrops drenched him, making his skin prickle. He quickly grabbed a grenade and attached it to the door handle of the rooftop, then walked backward to where he had already prepared a climbing rope. With a figure-eight ring, he alternated his hands on the rope, pushed off the wall with his feet, and slid down the back of the building. He rolled to the side and disappeared into the nearby forest. With a burst of momentum, he kicked off the tree trunk three times and landed on a thick branch, turning around to see the abandoned buildings.

Chu Ci had chosen his campsite carefully. According to Deep Red's simulation, he would become an assassin in this rainy dusk.

He pulled out an AK variant and, through the scope, saw the six people who had panicked and fled the building.

"We left Louisa behind," a plump woman shouted, hoping someone would turn back to save Louisa.

"Don't worry about her. If it weren't for her, Steven wouldn't have died!" Another woman, who had a grudge against Louisa, didn't want to go back and loudly condemned Louisa's mistake.

"Run, there must be an ambush here," a man who seemed to have a crush on the plump woman returned to grab her and tried to take her away.

"No, I have to save Louisa." The plump woman, hearing the moans from inside the building, couldn't bear to let Louisa die, so she shook off her admirer and rushed back into the building. The admirer, seeing the others getting farther away, gritted his teeth and followed her into the gun shop.

"You're smart!" Chu Ci breathed a sigh of relief. If they had circled around and hidden in the building's shadow, it would have been troublesome. Now, it was easy. Chu Ci adjusted his aim and targeted the fastest runner, firing without hesitation. Two well-timed bursts of three shots each, and the fastest runner fell to the ground, likely hit.

The Parasite Space didn't immediately collect the spoils, but Chu Ci wasn't in a hurry to finish him off, as there was a chance he might still be struggling from blood loss.

Chu Ci shifted his aim to the next man. It was quite miraculous that the six people were evenly balanced between men and women, with no signs of bullying. They might really be a united team.

The muzzle flash was barely visible in the rain, and although the gunshots were loud, the remaining three didn't dare attack Chu Ci. Instead, they ran into the forest, trying to get out of his line of sight.

What a bunch of fools! Who can run faster than a bullet? Chu Ci shook his head, calculated the lead, and fired, sweeping the remaining three to the ground.

At this moment, Chu Ci narrowed his eyes and sensed that the Parasite Space had collected six bloody hearts. He felt fortunate that he could carry such disgusting things in his personal space, while others would have to endure the smell of decay.

There were still two people in the building, but to Chu Ci, they were just a simple cleanup.

Chu Ci put away the AK variant, which had few bullets left, and took out two Browning pistols as he walked toward the gun shop.

Deep Red's calculations were accurate. Whether or not the two handguns were destroyed, they would definitely be damaged, so Chu Ci didn't expect the two survivors to find two usable guns in the rubble.

At the seven o'clock and four o'clock positions, Deep Red suggested, Chu Ci pressed against the wall, kicked open the half-broken door, and threw a grenade inside without entering.

"Ah!"

The next second, Chu Ci heard a scream. Although the grenade was old, the two people inside weren't children and knew the danger, so they rushed out.

Chu Ci saw that the two people were holding crude iron bars and wooden sticks, confirming that there was indeed an ambush.

The two people who had taken refuge in the gun shop didn't give up and stood on either side of the door, ready to ambush the intruder. However, they were forced out by the cautious Chu Ci.

"We surrender!" Seeing the black muzzle of Chu Ci's gun, the two people's faces turned white. They knew they would die if they didn't surrender, so they quickly dropped their weapons and raised their hands.

"Sorry, I don't take prisoners." Chu Ci didn't care about their surrender and shot them dead.

He then checked the gun shop, saw the two already dead people, and confirmed that no one was left alive before leaving satisfied. He climbed back to the rooftop along the rope on the back of the building and retracted the excess length.

After this one-sided massacre, even if there were other contestants nearby, they probably wouldn't dare to come after hearing the gunshots.

Cheng Rui had obediently stayed in the tent, which relieved Chu Ci. He was more afraid of carrying a disobedient burden than a compliant one.

The grenade at the entrance remained where it was. Chu Ci lifted the tent and crouched to enter, meeting Cheng Rui's frightened eyes.

"Ah!" Cheng Rui called out in worry.

"Don't be afraid, it's me." The iron-blooded aura hadn't dissipated from Chu Ci, and he was covered in mud and disheveled from climbing and running, looking quite ragged. At first glance, it seemed like he had fled in a panic.

The mess on his body also made Chu Ci uncomfortable. Seeing the clear footprints on the carpet, he stepped out of the tent, took off his clothes, and took a rain shower. Afterward, he entered the tent, dried himself with a towel, and put on clean clothes.

Throughout the process, Chu Ci didn't deliberately avoid Cheng Rui. Since she was still young, he walked out and came back in naked. When he had finished drying his hair, which was dry and rough without shampoo, Cheng Rui blushed and turned away.

"Huh?" Chu Ci looked at Cheng Rui in surprise. If she was going to turn away, she should have done it earlier. He had already finished his shower and put on clothes. Why turn away now?

This rain was a localized phenomenon. While Chu Ci was having a superhuman eight-kill in the rain, on the other side of the island, under a dark sky, Bond crouched in a trench, looking out cautiously. The next second, he ducked as a burst of bullets rained down on the spot where he had been.

"Damn, I ran into a cycle player again!" Unlike Chu Ci, Bond had encountered many people on his way, some afraid and timid, some reckless, some advocating peace, and some treating human lives like grass.

Not to mention cycle players. Bond estimated that Chu Ci wouldn't run into any.

"Come out, I just want food, you can run for your lives." Yin Yihan's voice was much sweeter than her appearance, a sugary tone that seemed harmless. If she hadn't killed two people on the spot, Bond might have almost believed her.

"Go to hell, you bitch! Trying to trick me!" Hao Jun shouted in pain. If Bond hadn't pulled him back, he would have died in the first wave, not sitting in the trench with a wounded arm.

"Jim, did you find any weapons?" Bond shouted, the situation was dire. Their group of three or four people was being pinned down by a half-mechanized cycle player. He didn't want to risk his life with ordinary human flesh, so he needed these cannon fodder to play their part.

"Bond, we're here!" Jim and two others finally appeared, one with a submachine gun, the other two pushing a Vulcan Gatling gun. The next second, a continuous burst of gunfire erupted.

The three were civilians and not very accurate with their weapons, but this inaccuracy made Yin Yihan very nervous. As a cycle player with a mechanized body, ordinary bullets couldn't harm her, only the Gatling gun could slowly wear down her alloy armor. With her combat experience, she could easily dodge the fire from a skilled machine gunner, but these three novices often caused her to flinch, and the fire would twist and graze her armor. The sparks and heat from the bullets made her increasingly angry and anxious. Seeing the three women bring out a box of grenades, Yin Yihan decided to retreat and resupply.

"Thank God, that crazy woman is gone for now." Bond knew Yin Yihan wouldn't give up on the armory. The most urgent task now was to quickly train these cannon fodder to avoid another quick death.
