PS: This chapter may spark a lot of controversy, but I have personal experience with this. One of my college roommates was from there, and we got along for four years without much discomfort (except for his bad breath). I want to clear the name of his hometown. ——————
Amidst the cherry blossoms dancing in the wind, Misaki opened the old diary and read the words of the promise written inside.
Chuci originally planned to occupy the high ground, knowing it would take at least half a month of cold winds before he might encounter any clues. However, as soon as he stepped out of the dense forest, a loud shout came from above the cliff. Chuci hadn't even seen if there was a suitable spot on the cliff when the shout came.
"Charge!" At the same time, shouts came from Chuci's left, right, and behind him. Figures emerged from the jungle, and the only way out was up the mountain. But since the order came from above, there must be an ambush on the mountain.
"Hmph!" Chuci sneered, quickly scanning the area. He didn't see anyone with firearms, so he immediately led Cheng Rui up the mountain. It's hard to fight a single person against many, and this time there were too many people. He could see at least fifteen or sixteen, and there were probably more he couldn't see. If they didn't occupy a narrow, easily defensible spot, being surrounded on all sides would render even guns useless.
Cheng Rui was still young and couldn't keep up with Chuci's pace. Chuci grabbed her with his large hand and carried her under his arm, moving quickly. Although it was uncomfortable, it was better than losing their lives.
On the way up the mountain, Chuci carefully observed the ground. The vegetation was low, so there was no fear of someone hiding in the trees, but the softness of the soil suggested that digging a pit trap wouldn't be difficult.
Fortunately, the attackers hadn't thought that far. In their view, with over twenty people gathered together, all unarmed, they could easily overpower anyone.
So, the four participants responsible for monitoring the high ground were delighted to see a large and a small figure hurriedly fleeing up the mountain.
"Hey! This time it's our turn, let's get them!" A black man with a punk hairstyle and punk clothing, even his demeanor was punk, shouted loudly. After three days, he was completely immersed in the game, enjoying the freedom to kill and vent his anger, a paradise for small-time thugs. Accompanying him were several naked and dirty women, their eyes numb and fearful, their bodies exuding despair and the scent of death.
All the pursuers were now exposed. Chuci looked back while running and saw eighteen strong, muscular black men charging towards him, some with blood-red waist pouches, indicating they had already made some gains.
"Damn, are these guys part of a black thug alliance?" Chuci himself had no racial prejudices, but he had a black colleague in North America who once talked about his fellow black people from the lower classes. Generally, everyone's moral values come from education and environment. As long as the living conditions aren't too harsh, no one would deliberately become a bad person. However, in that land of supposed freedom and equality, various forms of discrimination still exist, causing his fellow black people to suffer from bullying. Poor education and threatened living conditions would make anyone, regardless of race, feel discontent. In such a hypocritical country, the exposure of these issues is controlled by news corporations and the wealthy, leading to more severe social issues and further demoralizing the innocent.
For example, take the people from Henan. People from other regions often think Henan people are untrustworthy, but the key issue isn't the Henan people; it's the news media that will do anything for attention. China sees many theft cases each year, with suspects from all over the country, yet no one pays attention. But the media focuses on Henan, leading to a negative stereotype. Over time, even an innocent Henan person will be viewed with suspicion, which is unfair. This is the tragedy of the masses, who are easily swayed by the media.
So, when Chuci saw the eighteen punk black men charging towards him, he immediately understood that they were part of a 'self-destructive' and tragic lower-class group.
The first characteristic of such a group is madness, a disregard for the law; the second is a disregard for life, both their own and others'.
After cursing, Chuci ended the pointless conversation and focused on running.
"The way ahead is blocked, yellow monkey!" Four punk black men laughed as they emerged from the side of the path, blocking Chuci's way.
"Are there more of your people above?" Chuci asked suddenly.
"No, just a few bitches who need to be taught a lesson." The punk black men were taken aback by Chuci's random question, and one of them responded reflexively.
"Thanks." Chuci breathed a sigh of relief, fearing an ambush from above. Since the people on the mountain had appeared, he didn't need to be polite.
He put Cheng Rui on the ground, and with a flick of his wrist, the Protecta appeared in his hands. At such close range, Chuci didn't even need to aim. The Protecta roared, turning the upper bodies of the two men in front of him into meat paste. With another pull of the bolt, it roared again, and the four black men, still thinking about how to torture Chuci after capturing him, were killed before they could react.
"Dry your whole family!" The black men at the foot of the mountain saw Chuci's killings and shouted curses, charging forward without fear of death.
"Fools, I was afraid you wouldn't dare to come." Chuci picked up Cheng Rui again, walked past the four bodies, and at a corner, pulled out an RPG-7. After using this one, he only had one left in his storage. Chuci cursed himself for lacking experience, buying so much explosives that he couldn't even catch a rabbit, while a rocket launcher would have been more practical.
The black men at the foot of the mountain couldn't see the RPG in Chuci's hands and continued to charge in a chaotic mass.
"Here's a big gift for you!" Chuci saw the black men crowded in a narrow space, immediately shouldered the rocket launcher, and fired. Despite their shouts, the rocket hit the crowd, wiping them out.
"Ah." Chuci sensed the number of hearts in the parasite space, nearly eighty. There were fewer than four hundred participants on the plane, and he had already taken out one-fifth of them.
Indeed, working alone was the way to get rich. If he had teamed up with those useless newbies, he wouldn't have achieved such success.
Chuci reached the end of the cliff and, as expected, found the women coerced by the thug group. They were naked, huddled in a corner, their bodies covered in filth and bruises. They trembled at the sight of people, clearly traumatized.
Chuci remained silent for a moment, then took out several cans of beef from the cellar and placed them on the ground, deliberately keeping a cold expression. "Take these and go. This place is mine now."
The women looked at Chuci, the unfamiliar Asian man, in confusion. After a few minutes, they came to their senses, ignoring their nakedness, and scrambled to grab the cans of beef, eating them greedily. It was clear they had suffered a lot in the past few days.
"Leave after you finish eating." Chuci took a few steps back with Cheng Rui, maintaining a distance from the traumatized women. Emotionally, Chuci sympathized with their plight, but rationally, he had to be cautious of any abnormal behavior from the traumatized women.
Fortunately, this didn't happen. Despite their recent traumatic experiences, they maintained a degree of rationality. Chuci's obvious coldness made them realize he wasn't easily swayed. After quietly thanking him and asking if he could protect them (to no avail), they supported each other and left.
"Ah!" Chuci understood that their departure likely meant death, either at the hands of others or in this harsh environment. But Chuci's target was clear: any participant with a desire to attack, even if unarmed, was his enemy. If they didn't pose a threat to him, he, with eighty hearts, didn't mind letting them go.
"Uncle, will they die?" Cheng Rui, who had been a transparent presence, showing complete trust in Chuci, finally showed a look of concern after the women left.
"Probably. It's their fate. If you want to blame someone, blame the despicable organizers." Chuci sighed, genuinely fearing that the women might cling to him. If they did, he would have to choose between violating his principles and abandoning this excellent base.
Chuci believed his rationality would always outweigh his emotions, and such a choice would likely violate his principles.
Chuci couldn't handle the bodies on the mountain path. After all, there were too many dead. He didn't want to deal with them, and having so many bodies lying around would serve as a good deterrent for other ambitious participants.
The high ground offered a vast view. When Chuci raised his binoculars, he could even see the vast ocean on all sides.
"Nice, nice." Chuci nodded repeatedly. Apart from a few small hills and ravines, there were no blind spots. Even the small forests scattered across the island could be monitored, and anyone trying to leave would be exposed to Chuci.
From this vantage point, Chuci also saw several strategic buildings through his binoculars, such as a suspected abandoned military factory with ongoing explosions, the abandoned gun shop complex he had already left, and the abandoned dock warehouse at the edge of the island, which he had searched in vain when he first parachuted in. There were many other abandoned buildings, places he couldn't observe from the air due to the strong wind and glare.
Chuci had Deep Red start mapping the island through the glass camera. When he saw a section less than two kilometers from the cliff, he suddenly exclaimed.
"Ah, isn't this..."
